Is there a thing in your house , or something you've always wanted , that makes your home feel finished or

" posh " ?
For me it was going to a friends house as a child , and seeing they had a doorbell . We never had one as at my parents house , and when first married and in rented houses never had one . Once in our own home , having a doorbell makes my day ! ( Told you it was daft )Grin

Our house has a name not a number😊

twilightcafe · 26/12/2021 16:56

A dishwasher
A collection of naice mugs from Emma Bridgwater
Log burner

Ferrero Rocher, I'm always hopeful that the Ambassador will call in.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 26/12/2021 17:01

I had a new kitchen and bathroom put in this year.
I feel very posh now I have a shower and integrated appliances.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 26/12/2021 17:07

I bought a bottle of Nuxe body oil this year, I felt very posh/rich.
Every time I saw it on my bathroom shelf I felt very lucky.

KohlaParasaurus · 26/12/2021 17:07

Expensive wallpaper in the stairwell and in a couple of bedrooms, and hand made lined curtains. I'll gloss over the fact that the curtains were hand made for other people's windows and bought on eBay.

Flush light fittings instead of a lampshade dangling from the ceiling on a white plastic coated cable.

Lots of different coffee-making gadgets instead of just a kettle.

And for me, not my house, it's buying myself a box of nice chocolates whenever I want instead of waiting for birthdays and Christmas and relying on someone else's taste/budget.

Tea from loose leaf tea, coffee from the cafetiere.

theshadeofgreen · 26/12/2021 17:08

Branded naice hand soap by each sink

JulieGoods · 26/12/2021 17:14

Not in my house.

But.

Growing up we could never pay for parking. We'd have to park a (bloody long) walk away from wherever we were shopping.

I've been driving now nearly 20 years and yet I still feel "posh" parking in shopping centre car parks.

poolblue · 26/12/2021 17:16

yes to tinned red salmon.
more than one flavour of jam open in the cupboard
loose cushions on the sofa

Crazydogmumma · 26/12/2021 17:22

I use a cup and saucer when I have coffee from my nespresso machine- it makes me feel posh!

MarshmallowFondant · 26/12/2021 17:23

More than one bathroom.

Growing up, NOBODY I knew had more than one bathroom in an average family house. We have one bathroom and two shower rooms.

AngelinaFibres · 26/12/2021 17:25

A house with a name not a number.
Proper brass door knocker.
Labrador retrievers.
Shopping at Waitrose.
White Company bedding.
Nice shoes /bag for everyday not just for special occasions.
As many Chriatmas lights as I want...warm white not multi coloured obviously.
Range cooker.
Farmhouse table in the kitchen.
Mantle shelf over the chimney breast with a pole to dry tea towels on.

AngelinaFibres · 26/12/2021 17:27

Roll top Bath.
Bespoke curtains.
Utility room.
Boot room.

billysboy · 26/12/2021 17:32

Having a boot room and old fashioned study
always wanted both , one smells of wet dogs most of the time and the other is not the latest fashion I am sure but has my Grandads old secretaire and paneling on the walls together with all of my old crap all over the desk , its my haven !

BlancheB · 26/12/2021 17:34

@2bazookas

So if people didn’t have doorbells what did they have?

Knuckles. You still have knuckles, don't you?

Choice That's the main thing. When I was a single mum I worried about money constantly. Now I can choose where I shop, what I buy. I can buy treats just because. I can drive a lovely car and not feel sick when the MOT is due. Buying clothes new not second hand stuff from friends. Shoes and bags that smell of leather .

wonderstuff · 26/12/2021 17:54

@Hen2018

Growing up, I always wanted these:

Stained glass window (like you get in 1930s semis)
A door bell that went “ding doooooong”
Any ice cream that was better than cheap vanilla (I don’t know why we never had a different flavour)
“Proper” fruit juice. We only had it as a starter on Christmas Day.
Any carbs that weren’t potatoes. We only had rice if we bought a Chinese, so probably 5 times in my childhood. We didn’t have pasta, couscous etc.
A VCR
A shower
Heating in the house

I also really wanted an outdoor toilet because my primary school friend had one with a candle in a jar on the windowsill! He didn’t have an indoor bathroom. I knew that wasn’t posh, though.

My grandma had a 1920s semi with stained glass windows in Wembley, my cousin and I were talking about it the other day saying how glamorous it seemed when we went to visit. My Grandpa was a primary school teacher so not terribly posh really!

Yes!
That's definitely my indicator of "posh" now, for sure.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/12/2021 18:01

Sitting in a black cab by myself, it feels far more indulgent than an Uber.

MondayYogurt · 26/12/2021 18:08

Balsamic vinegar and olive oil with the pourer thing.

Hen2018 · 26/12/2021 18:22

What makes me feel posh now (in my tiny, worn out house!)

No carpets. Hate them, all dusty and dirty.
Nice tea and coffee
Central heating (we’ve only had it 4 months!)
A million nice cheeses

AngelinaFibres · 26/12/2021 18:23

Waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread from the bread maker. Making real coffee and savouring it in a big cup

dumplings1 · 26/12/2021 18:25

A nice china teapot, I don't have one yet but when I do I'll feel a bit posher when drinking my cuppa tea

Egghead68 · 26/12/2021 18:28

A dishwasher feels posh to me
