What does your Christ Eve look like?

I've spent the day making cheesecakes, salads and laughing with my teenagers in the kitchen. Cranked up the music and danced. By mid afternoon I was praying for a storm as it was so hot. This evening we went for a swim after dinner, in fact I've been in 3 times. I've had a few glasses of wine and feeling really festive now.

Afternoon tea and movies - we camp it up with doilies and tea set etc, little sandwiches and cakes and Christmas treats.

In the evening, we do Snowman Night every Christmas Eve. We make and decorate card snowmen and put them up around the house. Prize for the most outlandish (which Grandad usually wins). Then we decorate gingerbread snowmen (with piping and sweets, sparkly sugar etc) and eat them while watching The Snowman and drinking hot chocolate with snowman marshmallows. We've always done it since the kids were little. We considered changing it this year, as the kids are now young adults Grin but nobody wanted to!

I'm working, wishing the clients would down tools TBH. By this point in my field there really isn't much that can't wait until January.

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/12/2021 12:13

We’ve had two lots of visitors and am expecting another before leaving to visit family this afternoon. I’ve also made soup, red cabbage and cheesecake. All the wrapping has been done, kids stockings filled and hidden so by 9 tonight I’ll be relaxing with gin and nibbles and the cheesiest movie I can find.

So it’s busy, bitty and joyous.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 24/12/2021 12:13

Making soup and eating a brioche Christmas tree from Aldi. DS is lying on the sofa, watching tv and DP is away to get a few last bits from the shops and drop presents into his mum, it's quite chilled actually Grin

LizzieMacQueen · 24/12/2021 12:17

Soup, cheesecake & gravy making here. Now relaxing with a coffee and a couple of quality street. This afternoon will be spend painting my nails and wrapping presents ( and realising I don't have enough gift tags, in fact we re-use from the previous year but there's often not enough ).

Anjo2011 · 24/12/2021 12:17

Shopping all done and only one more present to wrap. We are going to the pub shortly for lunch and then home to prep the veg for tomorrow. Tonight we will have some cheese and biscuits and let the kids choose a film to watch. All is calm! Merry Christmas.

Cuwins · 24/12/2021 12:21

We are having Xmas dinner at my parents tonight as my mum is working tomorrow afternoon. So I have been making a gestational diabetes friendly cheesecake this morning to take for pudding. Have some lunch then head over about 3.

RonniePickering · 24/12/2021 12:25

DP has cleaned all downstairs (I'm not complaining), I'm going to redecorate the tree (wrecked by DS) and prep the veg for tomorrow. DD and I will watch Die Hard for the first time later.

BishopBrennansArse · 24/12/2021 12:27

I'm at work.

jellybe · 24/12/2021 12:29

About to have a picky lunch. Off to church this afternoon, followed by a meal out then home for Christmas Eve books and snuggly reading time before the kids hang their stockings and put out treats for Father Christmas before bedtime.
Then DH and I will watch a film well we wait to make sure kids are asleep, sort stockings and head to bed ourselves.

We are all ready for tomorrow so today will be pretty chilled.

TabbyM · 24/12/2021 12:29

Stuck in work and not even an early finish boo

nancy75 · 24/12/2021 12:32

We are having a bbq!
Usually go out for lunch & a wander round the west end to see the lights but this year we’re staying in.
DH is an Aussie so today it’s an Australian Christmas bbq, followed by an English Christmas tomorrow with my family

Stompythedinosaur · 24/12/2021 12:32

Tidied the dc's bedroom with them (so Santa doesn't trip) and constructed the gingerbread houses for decorating later (we made the pieces yesterday). Now on our way to play crazy golf.

Will get back later to discover a christmas eve hamper (I know mn hates these, but I also don't care as we enjoy ours) and will prep some veg, have pizzas for tea and watch The Snowman.

Then after bed is the annual heartattack inducing event of stuffing the stockings.

Dogmum40 · 24/12/2021 12:36

We don’t have kids so we woke up, walked the dog, came back to have fresh coffee with Baileys (Irish coffee is a must in the house in the morning on Xmas eve) then sat down to watch gremlins with quality streets, roses and celebrations 🤩 and now just about to jump into the bath for a long hot relaxing dip with mulled wine, then it’s muppets Xmas carol, it’s a wonderful life and our annual Xmas eve buffet with more booze! Very chilled! Oh and whilst preparing the buffet and waiting for the Camembert to melt we prepare the veg and we also cook the Turkey Xmas eve night, so tomorrow will be very relaxing and full of yet more booze 🤩

All presents delivered so Xmas eve is always our day to kick back!

ShippingNews · 24/12/2021 12:43

Sounds like you're in Oz. Me too. I've made two pavlovas and have roasted and cut up two chickens and some pork, ready for tomorrow. My kids are adults, and DD is far away , so this afternoon DH and I went to our son's place and spent the afternoon wrapping presents and eating, serenaded by the Boney M Christmas Album on Spotify ( our default Christmas music).

Tonight, DH and broke open a bottle of Asti Spumante and some mince pies, and opened out presents to each other, and DD's to us. Lots of pictures were taken to send to her and the children in the morning.

Early tomorrow DH and I will go down to the beach and meet DS and his family again - DS is going to fry bacon and eggs on one of the free barbecues down there. We'll have egg and bacon rolls, and I'm taking a box of French pastries for "dessert", then we'll have a swim.

Have a merry Christmas, OP !

MondeoFan · 24/12/2021 12:46

Been to local shop this morning for last minute food.
Going to take dog for a long walk then back to decorate a gingerbread house.
Chinese for Tea and then watch Top Gear and some other Xmas programmes whilst sorting out stockings for 2DC

pastypirate · 24/12/2021 12:48

It's not my day with the dc so I've planned remainder of girt wrapping and a big clean. My mh isn't amazing today so I'm struggling a bit.

BishopBrennansArse · 24/12/2021 12:48

@TabbyM me neither. But I'm taking one for the team as my kids are teenage and ugh so those with little kids can enjoy.

I'm nhs.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 24/12/2021 12:50

It looks like the usual hell on earth NHS christmas Eve with people (always men) coming in with giant diabetic foot ulcers they've sat on for months and then decided on xmas eve that it needs immediate attention and then I have to arrange for them to go into hospital.
I'm supposed to finish at 5 but because of xmas eve panic I'll be going home at 8 and there will be more than a few amputations due to people not seeking medical treatment immediately.
Its the same every year.

dementedma · 24/12/2021 12:51

Going to mums tonight for drinks etc and sis is there to do the hosting, so I dont have to do anything! Its bliss. Just lazing about reading

gamerchick · 24/12/2021 12:53

Waiting for husband finishing work so can finish the food shop then off to work for me. Fun times Grin

ThatDreamSheep · 24/12/2021 12:57

DH is working. Me and the kids have donned some snugglies and have watched Christmas TV and made Christmas crafts. 2 year old is currently napping. I've made my Yorkshires for tomorrow and mince pies for Santa. Need to pop to the shops later for last minute bits. Lovely lazy day actually!
