Christmas cards.

Benjispruce5 · 23/12/2021 22:12

I’ve got freeview in my bedroom!Grin

Benjispruce5 · 23/12/2021 22:13

Yes a landline. We don’t have a handset anymore.

Holothane · 23/12/2021 22:18

Filofax a leather a5 sized one it zipped up I used for about 20 years was gutted when I lost it, I’d love again for old times sake.

Furries · 23/12/2021 22:19

@Jumpingintochristmas

Calling to order a takeaway.
I phoned an order through last Friday - from my landline. Proper old fashioned here 😂
Ragwort · 23/12/2021 22:19

We live rurally and lots of these 'antiquated' habits are really quite normal - collecting takeaways, using cash, having a landline, using a travel agent, DVDs.

I find it very exciting when I visit a friend in a city ... the lifestyle is so different you could be in another country Grin.

Anjo2011 · 23/12/2021 22:19

Booking a holiday in an travel agent (shop)
Buying a magazine
Needing change for car parks
Looking through the local newspaper at houses for sale ( pre rightmove)
Watching one episode of a drama per week, no binge watching

ddl1 · 23/12/2021 22:20

I still buy CDs, send Christmas cards, use a desktop for preference, and have a landline! Don't miss dialup, however!

Ragwort · 23/12/2021 22:21

And of course I still use a Filofax Grin.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 23/12/2021 22:21

Logarithm tables …. Just discussing those 🤣

ddl1 · 23/12/2021 22:26

I haven't used a Fax machine in yonks; I think it's mainly hospitals and some American organizations that still use them.

I remember being informed by a college in the 90s that no, their fax machine, which they kept in reception near a too-often open door, was not currently usable as it had been struck by lightning.

ElephantOfRisk · 23/12/2021 22:28

Ds and his friends all have record players now and buy vinyl. He wishes I'd kept my huge collection which I gave away to someone doing a charity car boot sale. So although we don't buy CDs, I've bought a few LPs this year and last.

I also still buy bluray and Dvd box sets of stuff i can't get on Netflix or Prime.

stand alone SatNavs?

Doodar · 23/12/2021 22:35

Going into the Gas showroom to pay your bill, then the Electric one.
Wages in cash, in a packet.
Traveler’s cheques.
Booking a call home on a foreign holiday.
Smoking upstairs on a bus
Smoking at the back of an airplane
Smoking on the tube
Renting a tv, had a coin slot on the back.
Putting coins in the electric meter

Dogs roaming the streets in packs.
Going out drinking with your mates, aged 13, tallest/oldest looking would buy all the drinks.
1/2 pence coin
Sixpence coin
God, I feel old.

LaMagdalena · 23/12/2021 22:37

Needing cash for the bus - even they're contactless now (well they are where I live - and I live in quite a rural area).

Chimley · 23/12/2021 22:37

DH and I used a travel agent to book our first holiday together about 16/17 years ago it was a nightmare holiday

This year I have only for the second time in our relationship used a travel agent! Turns out doing it direct is no longer cheaper. Although it was one of those new age travel agents 'holiday consultants' rather than a high street shop.

Rosewaterblossom · 23/12/2021 22:38

The last time I called Virgin Media for my broadband deal I recall kicking off a bit because "deals" were cheaper if you had a landline too. I said who has a household landline nowadays and why should I have one when I won't use it! Think I got a good deal anyway but definitely wouldn't ever get a landline. What's the point when I have a mobile with all I need?

Waiting for the TV to warm up before it came on, and often having to juggle with the aerial to get a decent signal.

Hibye23289 · 23/12/2021 22:40

Omg don't I am early 30s yet still so out of touch! I still use cds in my car and I have brought my step dad 2 cds for his van Blush for christmas. I also ring to order takeaways. I haven't entered the world of spotify and music downloads Blush

MatildaJayne · 23/12/2021 22:40

@ginslinger

I can't imagine every become weary of contactless payments - I love it especially now that I have the cards in my phone wallet and just have to use a fingerprint to pay. It's brilliant.
I think she meant wary.
MarleneDietrichsSmile · 23/12/2021 22:41

Watching tv

Sending Christmas cards

Gingerkittykat · 23/12/2021 22:42

I think I had 30 hours a month on my freeserve dial up so had to monitor my internet use carefully.

The yellow pages. It used to be a massive doorstep of a book that lived in everyone's house. I got one through the door recently and it was tiny and went straight in the recycling bin.

MatildaIThink · 23/12/2021 22:43

Cash, I have not used it for more than two years.
Manually setting a timer, I use Google Assistant.
Physical media, I stream music, films, TV etc.
Live TV, almost everything is on-demand.
Throwing everything in one bin, rather than splitting out various recycling.

Echofallen · 23/12/2021 22:45

Happy New Year texts being sent to friends and family at the bells and getting delivered hours later because the service jammed up. Nobody bothers doing it now.

SprayedWithDettol · 23/12/2021 22:46

We have a land line because we live rurally and no mobile phone signal/we need it for our alarm system/broadband can be flaky too so WiFi calling isn’t always up to scratch.

Friendviv1987 · 23/12/2021 22:46

Actually speaking to friends on a landline
Going to the shops to choose presents, clothes etc
Having less choice in supermarkets
Getting pics developed from chemist
Could actually think of hundreds more examples!
