Ipods..

Renting a dvd from the shop..

Decorating a room and having one colour at the bottom with a paler version at the top separated with a pretty boarder..

What are yours?

One that's quite Xmas specific - TV guides that you then highlight what you wanted to watch or record (we had one colour for watch and one for record - watch was the ones we all wanted to see record - the ones only one or 2 were interested in)

DD (10) was highlighting the Radio Times earlier this week, and is very excited about the original movie of West Side Story bring shown next week. Even though
1- she has as never been tied to watching something at the time it’s actually broadcast
2- we have WSS on dvd!

Maybe some of these things will come back, like vinyl did. Also cheese plants, macrame hanging baskets, wooden ornaments, wicker. All things I thought I'd seen the last of.

Graphista · 25/12/2021 08:44

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads oh great your dd was doing that!

When's west side story on? I missed it somehow

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/12/2021 09:16

We joined the EU in 1973 (unless you're from another country that joined later) so that would not have been around the millennium when you were a teenager

But the Euro came around much later. Blair and Brown were up for joining around the time of the Millennium

Calculators are still very much used in education @fourminutestosavetheworld. Students need them for GCSE and A level maths and sciences, and for STEM degrees. DD would be stuffed without her scientific calculator.

Using off airport site parking in the early 90s - the company gave us an envelope with their contact phone number printed on the front and a 10p coin inside - so that we could call them from a pay phone on our return to let them know we were ready to be collected to go back to the car park to pick up our car.

I had no idea. Everyone I know uses their phones now! Glad they're still in use!
CounsellorTroi · 25/12/2021 09:53

DVDs can be useful when you are staying in a rural holiday cottage with no Internet or WIFI!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/12/2021 09:59

That’s why we have them!

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads

Watching a TV show at the time it is broadcast.
I actually really miss this. The fact you know everyone is watching it at the same time and you have to wait for the next episode and can discuss it. Now you get a whole series at once on netflix and have to avoid everyone until you've finished it in case someone spoils it all.

Still can buy BIC biros with four colours. Used a lot in schools for marking etc.

They’re the only pens DD likes!

Yes, I’m an American who knows it’s a handbag, or just bag.

You can't use phones in exams. You would get disqualified not just for that exam but the whole exam board. They are very hot on cheating. Besides, a phone probably doesn't have all the scientific functions a scientific calculator has.

Internet Cafes had a very short life span. Went from amazing places where could check emails easily to redundant in what, less than 10 years.

I can't have a smart speaker (Alexa, anyway) because it won't work with my BT service.

@pastypirate you can get Filofax infills online. www.NBPLANNER.com also do infills of Filofax sizes, and considerably cheaper I think.

Thank you that's so thoughtful. I will take a look xx

I loved Internet cafes. The one I went to in Leicester had iMacs I thought it was so so cool and edgy.

I can sort of add milkmen but my estate does actually have one.

RoyalFamilyFan · 25/12/2021 20:46

Voice recognition rarely recognises what I am saying. Totally hopeless.

pastypirate · 25/12/2021 20:50

Sat navs - as in the separate plastic screened unit made by garmin or Tom Tom. Totally redundant now.
