Everyone probably has one that does their head in when they hear it?

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day is one I find annoying when it comes on.

The Mariah Carey one
The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl one
The East 17 one
The Elton John one

I refuse to type the song titles because I loathe them. All the rest, I either don't mind or quite like.

The 12 days of Christmas by the Spinners . . . . Makes me cringe and die inside a bit every time I hear it. Also one Xmas I spent a lengthy wait in a GP surgery and heard this song at least 5 times

GuyFawkesDay · 23/12/2021 16:39

Do they know it's Christmas.

Patronising, full of bollocks about Africa that's fed stereotypes for a generation. Awful.

@FestiveFruitloop Amazingly, I've only heard it twice this year! And I've had the radio on a lot.

User135644 · 23/12/2021 16:48

@Heatherjayne1972

The band aid one Just awful Do they know it’s Christmas?- yes yes they do ‘Thank God its them instead of you’

Not cool.

it's got a halo because of the charity money (notwithstanding some of the ways it was spent) and it's a very catchy bridge melody.

The lyrics are appalling though. Badly written and patronising.

'Baby it’s cold outside’ is just sleazy.

The film Love Hard on Netflix features an modern non sleazy version which is brilliant.

Who the feck suggested to The Osmonds that taking a crack at Little Drummer Boy was a good idea ?
I listened to some it , I need to repair mine own bleeding ears now

Mochudubh · 23/12/2021 17:29

@Xanadu58

Merry Xmas war is over John Lennon
Me too. I'm not a Lennon fan at the best of times but Yoko's wailing in the background makes me want to chew my ears off!
35andThriving · 23/12/2021 18:06

Last Christmas by Wham

BelfastSmile · 23/12/2021 18:21

@roundtable

Do they know it's Christmas - of course they know it's Christmas in the Christian countries and yes there is fucking snow. DH quietly switches the station if it comes on to preempt my ranting!
Same in our house! I'm allowed one rant at the start of the Christmas season, and after that I'm not allowed to complain any more. But that doesn't stop me sighing loudly and glaring at the radio, so DH sometimes turns it off before I notice what it is.

Prum pum ba da dum ba da ba da dum ba da da da dum dum dum dum x a million
Wish I was at home... for Christmas

Gives me the rage.

Swirlywoo · 23/12/2021 18:24

I literally can't think of any which is odd as I am scathing about many pop songs.

From 5th January to 30th November, however, I hate all of them.

PlanetNormal · 23/12/2021 18:24

All of them.

I was completely sick & tired of hearing every single one of them 20 years ago and I would vote for any politician whose manifesto was to permanently ban Slade / Wham / Band Aid/ Mariah etc etc.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 23/12/2021 18:25

Mariah Carey squawking away.

Bellafrenum · 23/12/2021 18:26

Santa Baby - infantalising women/sexualising children

Live Aid - again, for the lyrics. Like it was written by David Brent.

That spaceman one. Just a bit depressing, not Christmassy.

That Coldplay one.

Oh yeah I hate that one too.
Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 23/12/2021 18:27

I'm sure when I was little there wasn't such fetishism over Christmas songs. They weren't overplayed as much as they are now. It's just so bloody tedious.

I hate 2000 miles by the Pretenders.

Just thinking...I've not heard fairytale of New York this year, and it's usually one of the most popular! Has it been cancelled?

It was on our local radio this morning. I turned it off. Horrible song.
CurryandSnuggle · 23/12/2021 18:43

I don’t mind fairytale of New York but don’t like my DS listening to it. It’s really rude and I’m amazed they can play it without blocking bits out like “you’re an old slut on junk” “cheap lousy faggot” “happy Christmas you arse”. If a song like that was made now it’d be edited to buggery Grin

Roselilly36 · 23/12/2021 18:48

@DismantledKing

Fairytale of New York
Absolutely, awful song.
Chikapu · 23/12/2021 18:48

All of them but Mary, Did You Know by Pentatonix is particularly heinous.

pourmeanotherglass · 23/12/2021 18:50

All of them.
Except the carols. I guess i only go to one or 2 carol services a year, so don't hear them enough to be fed up of them. I love oh holy night and in the bleak midwinter.
But the ones they play in shops just get played too much.
