Characters from films you can’t stand

Lighthearted obvs.

Me and DS watched Nativity 2 today and Mr Poppy is the worst. I’m not sure how anyone can think he’s a good role model for the kids and he’s just so bleedin’ incompetent. The bit where the kids are walking through the woods, go into the cave and then abseil down the cliff had me shouting at the tv (yep probably a bit over invested 😂).

Harry Potter. So irritating. And never says please , just tells his mates to do stuff.

Riverlee · 24/12/2021 08:09

Andi Gray in Four Weddings - such a bad casting choice.

Riverlee · 24/12/2021 08:09

Sorry, Andi Mcdowell

Keira in Love Actually

Melanie from Gone With The Wind, gooey, sickly bore. Also never understood why Scarlett was in love with that drip Ashley when Rhett Butler was on offer!

Big from SATC - smirking dickhead (obviously even worse after current news). They have nothing in common, Carrie is bohemian and artsy he's an uptight, boring money man. They were never convincing as a couple.

Tworingstorulethemall · 24/12/2021 10:15

@Takemedown

Oh that woman from Jurassic world who is a completely awful, uptight, naggy cow simply as a foil to chris pratt's cool, laid back dinosaur expert. She outruns a t Rex in high heels. Just .... No. She's just a bunch of sexist tropes rolled up in one character. Compare and contrast with laura dern in the original, 20 years earlier who was a total badass.
DH didn't believe me when I pointed out the heels/T Rex thing. 'No way!' 'Yes, watch it again...' Grin

I absolutely love Laura Dern in Star Wars. Beautiful, elegant, and total bad ass! The bit when she and Princess Leia both said 'may the force be with you'. 🥰

@windmill26

Not a character...for some reason I can't stand Keira Knightley.

Me neither. The problem is if you really take a dislike to an actor or actress then you end up disliking them in every role they play regardless!

windmill26 · 24/12/2021 16:44

@BarefootHippieChick Agree! In my eyes she also managed to ruin a Chanel ad few years backWink

tillytoodles1 · 24/12/2021 16:57

Bridget Jones.

Eyesofdisarray · 24/12/2021 20:37

Oh dear @BeingATwatItsABingThing yes I do mean Hermione Granger; don't know why I wrote Weasley!!! Didn't finish the films so I didn't know re Ron.
I know she was the 'brightest witch of her age' but still not keen

miltonj · 24/12/2021 20:39

Harry Potter (in the films at least) is not a good person at all.

NameChangeCity123 · 24/12/2021 20:40

Alan Rickmans character in love actually makes me more angry every year

SantaClawsServiette · 25/12/2021 17:21

Agh, that Laura Dern character drove me nuts, she had to be the worst military commander ever. Her plan made no sense and she was a terrible leader, with stupid hair.

woodhill · 26/12/2021 16:59

Paddington- he's such an annoying idiot

MadMadMadamMim · 26/12/2021 17:19

So many of these, I agree with. Andie McDowell in Four Weddings is the ultimate bitch. You couldn't imagine anyone falling 'in love' with her - she's utterly vacuous. And I agree that most of Richard Curtis's characters (particularly the female ones) are like this. The are completely one dimensional - he strikes me as the type of prat who went to Harrow (which he did) and doesn't actually KNOW any real people who lead ordinary lives. He writes scripts that suggest this is how privileged people think 'poor' people behave.

Also loathe Claire in Jurassic World - I've never seen a couple with as little chemistry as she had with Chris Pratt. I suspect she only gets parts because she's Ron Howard's daughter.

Anything that Kristen Stewart played. No presence, no beauty, no acting ability, frankly. She's completely wooden and unbelievable in whatever role they gave her.

@miltonj

Harry Potter (in the films at least) is not a good person at all.
I think the Harry of the books is very sweet and mature for a teenager who should really need a hell of a lot of therapy.

Dumbledore is much less of a good person, but I do like him considering.

MichelleScarn · 26/12/2021 17:44

Any of the 'golden trio' in the Harry Potter films. Can't even give them benefit of doubt when you look at the acting skills of young Drew Barrymore, Elle and Dakota Fanning and the boys from E.T and Flight of the Navigator.

The smuggery of Watson, Grint and Radcliffe in the current Sky adverts for HP celebrations gives me the rage.

Noooooo. Paddington is the best 😉

Eilis Lacey in Brooklyn. I disliked her so much that I can’t stand Saoirse Ronan in anything now.

Barton10 · 26/12/2021 19:37

Thelma and Louise I hate that film. I can’t stand Geena Davies in anything though she is really annoying!

AnotherShirtRuined · 26/12/2021 20:38

Richard Gere in Pretty Woman. Supposed to be the hero, yet he buys a woman for sex and gets self-righteously annoyed when other people treat her as a prostitute even though he does the same. Gave me a severe dislike for Richard Gere for years

MsTSwift · 26/12/2021 20:48

I like Keira knightly. She was only 18 in love actually and she didnt choose that cringey l am pretty line. Thought she was very good in Atonement and The Duchess

MsTSwift · 26/12/2021 20:51

Oh and we met Laura Dern in real life our family were blocking her way on a narrow path and she was very gracious and nice about us dozy tourists!.
