Characters from films you can’t stand

Lighthearted obvs.

Me and DS watched Nativity 2 today and Mr Poppy is the worst. I’m not sure how anyone can think he’s a good role model for the kids and he’s just so bleedin’ incompetent. The bit where the kids are walking through the woods, go into the cave and then abseil down the cliff had me shouting at the tv (yep probably a bit over invested 😂).

Keira Knightley in love actually. Loves herself and full of herself.

newlabelwriter · 23/12/2021 09:00

Looking at this we could just have a character from Richard Curtis films that are annoying. There’s a lot of them 😉

Jack Black's character in the Holiday. Or maybe it's just Jack Black I don't like, I haven't seen him in much else.

Jack Black does okay the same character in most films

I flippin love Mr Poppy!

Anoisagusaris · 23/12/2021 10:15

Mine is Harry Potter. Can stand him/Daniel Radcliffe.

chiefcha · 23/12/2021 10:21

The little boy in love actually is incredibly irritating.

lollipoprainbow · 23/12/2021 10:29

@greatape yes she really annoyed me and my mum too! Wish he hadn't fallen for her.

lollipoprainbow · 23/12/2021 10:30

Keira knightly in Love actually when she watches herself in the wedding video then says in her twee way 'I look quite pretty' makes me want to punch the screen every time !!

HailAdrian · 23/12/2021 10:32

Came on to say Buddy from Elf and then you reminded me of Mr Poppy. Ugh.

HailAdrian · 23/12/2021 10:33

@Anoisagusaris

Mine is Harry Potter. Can stand him/Daniel Radcliffe.
I didn't used to mind him, now I have no respect at all for him. He's probably gutted.
AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 23/12/2021 10:36

Saw it last night but the 'Capishe?' guy from Die Hard - Ellis I think he's called? I said to my husband 'I'm glad he gets shot.' Blush

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 23/12/2021 10:47

Oh yes Harry Potter too. All the characters that can't act piss me off... which is quite a few of them, especially in the early films.

newlabelwriter · 23/12/2021 11:04

Keira Knightley’s character in pirates of the Caribbean too. I forgot about that.

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/12/2021 11:13

Sophia Coppola’s character in Godfather part 3 - god, she ruined that film!

Eyesofdisarray · 23/12/2021 11:23

Hermione Weasley 😞
Keira Knightley's characters in Love Actually, Pride&Prejudice, and Pirates of the Caribbean
Definitely Carrie as above

ChequerBoard · 23/12/2021 11:27

@Anoisagusaris

I flippin love Mr Poppy!

Me too!

It's a fun comedy - he's not meant to be a realistic portrayal of your average teaching assistant.

If you want bad then see the most recent Nativity film, Nativity Rocks! where Mr Poppy has been replaced by his 'brother'. I can only guess that the original actor saw the script and gave it a hard pass....

Headingnorthwoste · 23/12/2021 11:29

Carrie from 4 Weddings and a funeral

Any character played by Adam Sandler. He’s awful

OP- I agree about the health and safety shockers in Nativity 2. No life jackets in the boat, white water rafting with under 10s and a baby, abseiling with ropes and no safety harnesses. Wtf?! Can’t believe the censors thought that was ok.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 23/12/2021 12:18

@Eyesofdisarray

Hermione Weasley 😞 Keira Knightley's characters in Love Actually, Pride&Prejudice, and Pirates of the Caribbean Definitely Carrie as above
Hermione Weasley? Do you mean just when she appears at the very end of the last film married to Ron (assuming she took his name)?

Or do you mean Hermione Granger, smartest of the golden trio? Or do you mean Ginny Weasley, only girl born to the Weasley family?

Emanchego · 23/12/2021 12:26

Fran from Dawn of the Dead. Stops all the fun and camaraderie with her boring killjoy ways.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 23/12/2021 13:11

@BeingATwatItsABingThing, I reckon Ginny Weasley, because she was beyond shite. Didn't like the character in the book much either - too nutritious and self-assured (not a bad quality but there was something about her manner that annoyed me - like one of those students at university who always eats well, goes to study groups, has a university scarf, and is always on-track and confident about what they're doing for the current assignment), but the film portrayal was so wet and nothing like what she was supposed to be.

BarefootHippieChick · 23/12/2021 13:35

I'll agree with a lot of these. I'll add the annoying guy with the mullet in the Walking Dead (can't remember his name).

I am a massive Harry Potter fan but most of the characters are annoying. Grin I’m sure as an 11-18 year old, I was incredibly annoying though.

citycitycity · 23/12/2021 14:12

@middleager

Muriel's dad in 'Muriel's Wedding'. In fact, I find the whole film depressing.

Agree with Mrs Doubtfire. Obviously, the husband, Robin William's character, is the character I can't stand, for multiple reasons.

Yes!

Watched it recently with DD and although I still love Muriel and Rhonda I realised the dad was emotionally abusing his whole family to the point where his wife took her own life.

claracluck1978 · 23/12/2021 14:19

Bryony from Atonement. I have never hated a character as much as her.
