Characters from films you can’t stand

Lighthearted obvs.

Me and DS watched Nativity 2 today and Mr Poppy is the worst. I’m not sure how anyone can think he’s a good role model for the kids and he’s just so bleedin’ incompetent. The bit where the kids are walking through the woods, go into the cave and then abseil down the cliff had me shouting at the tv (yep probably a bit over invested 😂).

@Purplecatshopaholic

Sophia Coppola’s character in Godfather part 3 - god, she ruined that film!
To be fair that film has several other issues apart from her lack of acting ability. Al Pacino in a grandpa cardigan for a start!
middleager · 23/12/2021 16:24

The slimey rector/parson in the 'Pride and Prejudice' adaptation with Colin Firth - can't think of his name. The cousin set to inherit who they try to set Lizzie up with.

maddiemookins16mum · 23/12/2021 17:00

The whining, spoilt, rude, inconsiderate daughter in Mamma Mia.

Ginny Weasley

@EssexLioness

Ginny Weasley
Book or film?
BiscuitLover3678 · 23/12/2021 17:35

I just watched Holidate. Maybe I'm getting old but I couldn't stand either of the leads. I hate the whole sexist trying to be cool dickishness.

Takemedown · 23/12/2021 17:37

Dobby the house elf. So happy when Bellatrix finishes him off.

Mr Collins! Can't remember the actor's name but he plays a fine part - Mr Collins is an odious, obsequious little man.
WrinklesShminkles · 23/12/2021 17:49

Every single character in Mamma Mia - but especially the Meryl Streep sidekicks played by Julie Walters and Christine Baranski.

Crankley · 23/12/2021 17:54

I don't mind Love Actually but I'm not an Emma Thompson fan and I get irritated when she opens the parcel and sees the CD and says 'I'm just going to absent myself'. No-one in the history of the world says 'absent myself'. Surely, 'excuse me for a moment', or something similar is far more normal? I know she didn't write the script but it irritates the hell out of me.

CinstonWhurchill · 23/12/2021 17:59

Gene Wilder in the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Also, the Umpa Lumpas from the same film. Have given me nightmares since the early 70's! Still cannot watch that film, very dark.

The wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz and her flying monkeys/army also scared the hell out me my whole life. The cowardly lion and scarecrow also sinister. The tin man was ok though, just a bit squeaky. Interestingly, neither of my children, now grown up, liked these films either, despite me never making any comment.

Yet none of these are anywhere as near as bad as the Wheelers from Return to Oz.

I tried to watch School of Rock, but had to turn it off as I just couldn't like Jack Blacks character.

Definitely all the children from Harry Potter films. So cringy.

Oh this is a truly awful film. They’re both terrible people.

Yes and Lilly James as well in it

Donna is so awful in general

SpindleWhirling · 23/12/2021 22:28

God that bloody awful character Willie Scott who ruined the second Indiana Jones film. How could they write and direct her like that, running around screaming about insects and simpering over clothes? Why did the actor Kate Capshaw go along with it? Just fuck off.

That god whats-her-face came back in the end. Marion, that was her name.

SpindleWhirling · 23/12/2021 22:30

Thank god aaaaagh

Timeisavirtue · 23/12/2021 23:15

Nativity... the kids love it but I can’t stand it 😣

thenightsky · 23/12/2021 23:19

@lollipoprainbow

Keira knightly in Love actually when she watches herself in the wedding video then says in her twee way 'I look quite pretty' makes me want to punch the screen every time !!
Oh 100% this!
DispositionCheeseLatte · 23/12/2021 23:30

Bella Swan in Twilight
FSOG Anastasia Steele.
Same difference, really.
I'm so helpless, I'm so vulnerable, I'm so basic why would he look at me? Hmm

windmill26 · 23/12/2021 23:30

Not a character...for some reason I can't stand Keira Knightley.

Takemedown · 24/12/2021 07:08

Oh that woman from Jurassic world who is a completely awful, uptight, naggy cow simply as a foil to chris pratt's cool, laid back dinosaur expert. She outruns a t Rex in high heels. Just .... No. She's just a bunch of sexist tropes rolled up in one character. Compare and contrast with laura dern in the original, 20 years earlier who was a total badass.

Remmy123 · 24/12/2021 07:09

The Irish policeman in bridesmaids ruins it for me!!

SuspiciousScully · 24/12/2021 07:44

I know it's a TV series rather than a film but 'McDreamy' from Grey's Anatomy.

I don't understand why so many people loved him. He's self-centred and whiny and annoying. I hated him so much!

Then again, the show became pointless once Christina left.

For some reason the colour of her shirt bothers me a lot in this film. It’s white but looks like it’s been in with her dark wash. I always get slightly obsessed with it when I watch this film 😂 Agreed she is a dreadful character.
