Anyone else not done their christmas food shop yet?

Last year we had no option but to go first thing christmas eve and buy our food (covid). I think it's made me so laid back about it this year as, actually, ly we got everything we needed, in one supermarket, and it wasnt busy.

So I'm just going to try the same thing again.

We are fairly relaxed about what we have - ideally Turkey and all the trimmings but if they've ran out, well, we will have beef. And if theres no traditional trimmings we will have something else.

Preordered the turkey at the butchers ages ago but have to get literally everything else at the supermarket tomorrow.

Hyperion100 · 22/12/2021 21:42

*Am not looking forward to it

Icecreaminwinter · 22/12/2021 21:43

I always go at 7am Christmas Eve.

I have one jar of cranberry sauce. And a box of mince pies that have now been opened.

I've also not wrapped a single gift.

Dh got ours today
We are getting my sisters tomorrow as she got a positive LFT today and was supposed to be going elsewhere for Christmas Dinner.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 22/12/2021 21:46

I’m where you are OP, though I have the meat in the freezer

Whatever will be ok

VeronicaBeccabunga · 22/12/2021 21:49

I'm getting up at crack of dawn tomorrow, armed with a Big List.
Got a frozen turkey so as to have one less worry going on, it's now in the fridge defrosting.
I feel like there's still xmas eve for anything I forget/can't find/the family suddenly decide they can't do without.

Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful weekend.

dundydee · 22/12/2021 21:50

Loads of people leave it till the last minute including myself. Never an issue

SantasGotABigOne · 22/12/2021 21:54

Picked up our Turkey on pre order M&S today and then got everything else delivered in a food delivery today as well. Sorted.

DancerPrancerDonnerBlitzen · 22/12/2021 21:55

We are doing it in bits and pieces. Not one big shop. We are nearly there now. Have to get some more veg I think and maybe a pudding. Just us this year anyway.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 22/12/2021 21:55

DH always does ours on the 23rd so he’s going early tomorrow morning. Turkey is pre ordered with a collection slot tomorrow.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 22/12/2021 21:57

We're doing the food shop tomorrow but it's only the 3 of us having a roast chicken dinner with whatever chocolate fancy pudding looks nice in sainsburys and a few more decadent than usual snacks. Nothing to get het up about and if they have no chickens we'll have something else.

yikesanotherbooboo · 22/12/2021 21:58

I've often done my shopping on Christmas Eve ( although I usually order the turkey in plenty of time).I haven't found it a problem.

RedRosie · 22/12/2021 21:59

Nothing whatsoever pre-ordered, planning to food shop on Friday. You'd think it would be stressful, but it really isn't! We will see what's available, and construct a couple of meals.

NinaDefoe · 22/12/2021 21:59

I was going to go on Christmas Eve and am now worried the shelves will be bare..

AuntyMabelandPippin · 22/12/2021 22:01

We have everything but the turkey etc which DH will get first thing from the butcher tomorrow.

Don't need to leave the house after that at all. Thank goodness.

User2638483 · 22/12/2021 22:03

I just went to waitrose tonight, about 1.5 hrs before closing and it was completely dead and quite good stock levels (of all the xmas basics anyway just a few normal things missing like their normal range of nice puddings replaced by stupid £20 Heston ones)

Madcats · 22/12/2021 22:03

Waitrose should be rocking up with a shed load of top-up veg and fripperies tomorrow, and we're walking a minute or two to get our meat order. If the queue gets a bit busy at the butchers, the next door deli starts doling out coffees and mulled wine.

TBF we assumed we've in another lockdown so assumed we'd be staying local and visiting family at Easter (but hoping for New Year)/

Shedmistress · 22/12/2021 22:06

We are vegetarians, I bought the pannetone last week, and i went out today to do a main shop for the week, and bought our other festive treat, some sprouts. That's it, all sorted.

milkysmum · 22/12/2021 22:09

Christmas Eve is for food shopping surely?

MsEmmeline · 22/12/2021 22:20

I've found my people, there's days yet.

Inanun2 · 22/12/2021 22:23

I have to go Christmas Eve for everything for 5 for 4 days as we are going to stay with an elderly relative tomorrow. Hope people have been already so it’s not too busy - I have never shopped on Christmas Eve before !

itwasntaparty · 22/12/2021 22:24

DH will do ours tomorrow.

The100thHoliday · 22/12/2021 22:26

Did my shop at 7am this morning. Usually do it 22nd/23rd, but often have to get a couple of bits on Christmas Eve and honestly, the shops are always really well stocked and I wonder why I get so stressed about it all.

Nsky · 22/12/2021 22:28

Went today, seemed the best idea, going to a friend, just normal shop, few extras.
Be a bit stressed if left later
