Anyone else not done their christmas food shop yet?

Last year we had no option but to go first thing christmas eve and buy our food (covid). I think it's made me so laid back about it this year as, actually, ly we got everything we needed, in one supermarket, and it wasnt busy.

So I'm just going to try the same thing again.

We are fairly relaxed about what we have - ideally Turkey and all the trimmings but if they've ran out, well, we will have beef. And if theres no traditional trimmings we will have something else.

I find Christmas food shopping in person so much less stressful than I imagine online ordering to be, reading all the “here’s what Sainsburys subbed me” threads on here the past few days 😁. Considering the supply issues they must have been facing, I was really impressed with the supermarkets when I did my shop on Tuesday night!

I was in Aldi at 9.30am & it was moderately busy but I got everything I needed from there

Then I went to M&S & picked up the few extra things I needed from there. Followed by a stop at the Leonidas shop where there was a queue down the street

Home now & we have everything! Except tonic water - but dh will pick that up later.

I am so glad to BE DONE !

My online order arrived today, couple of subs but stuff like cheddar for a different type of cheddar, only thing missing was a half side of salmon which i was going To do for boxing day lunch with in laws but i have plenty of other stuff. I was debating whether to go to a shop tomorrow as the swede is the size of a tennis ball and i only have 6 croissants but D H says we will survive with smaller portions, tend to agree as DS,s can be greedy so rationing the croissants for breakfast is no bad thing as they have requested lunch a bit earlier than we usually do cos i have a bunch of nice nibbles for a supper buffet so they want room for that!

I couldn't leave the shopping until Christmas Eve, it would make me panicky.
Yesterday I was at Morrison's at 7.30am to get all our fresh stuff - the shelves were full and the store was quiet.
At 8.00am today I went to Booths to pick up the turkey (had a collection slot booked) then M&S for savoury treats - I've got some chilli jam with piquillo peppers - really looking forward to trying that. Both shops were fully stocked but the car park was getting horrendous when I left around 9.00am.
Tomorrow I can put my feet up Xmas Smile

Love this thread. Thank you people. DH has just gone to shop with a list. We are hosting 15 people including us for 3 days.
We both work full time. Finished today. Surely most people are like this??!!

I supposenive nothing really to feel panicky about. It's the four of us, and we will just have what we can get. I hope they have boxes of crackers to pull.

We're going Xmas Eve lunch time. We're going to relatives for The Dinner this year and there's just 3 of us so we're playing Xmas Eve roulette and are going to take our chances at about 1pm.

I'm massively getting The Twitch but it's also good for my control freak nature not to plan everything meticulously. We will make do, I'm sure we will find enough to feed us handsomely for a few days. Might even catch some bargains at the same time.

Theimpossiblegirl · 23/12/2021 19:54

I've just got back. Not as quiet as usual, I think more people are leaving it late, but I got everything on my list and I'm ready.

I might do another visit tomorrow just before closing for freezer bargains.

I once went to Asda on Christmas Eve afternoon — no idea why, it was years ago — and there were literally people pulling one another’s hair in the aisles over reduced selection boxes. It was brilliant. Grin

Yes, @whatisheupto — same here. Generally, Christmas Eve isn’t so crazy for food shopping, anyway.

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 23/12/2021 21:21

Could only get a delivery from 10 - 11pm tonight. Knock on the door at 7pm as the guy had just delivered down the road and wondered if he could come early! RESULT! Had time to pop out to half empty Aldi to fill in the gaps from the substitutions, home in plenty of time to watch Ghosts and can have an early night!!!!!!

@bert3400

We are flying in from overseas tomorrow to our holiday cottage, on route we are picking up our click and collect shopping - I'm so excited about all the food I have missed for the last 2 years since we moved abroad, never mind all the Christmas food....oh and I get to see my mum and dad too Grin - so damn excited 😊
Where are you flying in from that you don't need a 48hr PCR and self isolation for 48 hours on arrival or until results arrive ? (it is all destinations? )

You must quarantine until you receive a negative test result, or until you leave England, whichever is sooner. (so no click and collect or parents?)

Did mine today. Went to M&S.
The shelves were full of food but I noticed that the party/Christmas range was not as big as in previous years.

Best buy was their Christmas cake mix!
Reduced to £4.
I intended to make a cake today and was going to buy all the dried fruit, marzipan, icing, flour etc until I saw this absolute bargain.
We made a really good sized cake this afternoon and it smells gorgeous!
