Do you put presents under the tree?

Me and OH have this same disagreement every year! He likes to put them under the tree Christmas Eve night and I just like to put them
Under the tree when they are wrapped, so they are out of the way! I can't even get into the bloody cupboard.

Kids aren't too fussed about "santa" and know we get them presents but I do put the little stocking fillers out on Christmas Eve night and say santa brought them.

What do you do with yours?

Christmas Eve from us and any they got via me from friends /family once they in bed ...
If anyone gave them a gift before the big day they put it under tree themselves

champions55 · 22/12/2021 18:08

I used to start putting stuff under the tree when wrapped. Then I became aware about burglaries during the day to get ur crimbo pressies so I stopped doing it or just left the less expensive presents under it but not the kids stuff as Santa brings that.

On Christmas Eve I'll put mine and dh presents to each other under it and maybe some from family ones for the kids. Then they have an area each in the living room for all their presents and big toys displayed.

NumaNumaYay · 22/12/2021 18:08

@Youhaveyourhandsfull

Ours are all under the tree. No space in our wardrobes otherwise. They’ve been there a few days and the kids seem to take turns arranging them. They are all number coded so nobody knows who has what until it’s time to open them.
Number coded? Please can you explain?!

All hidden in cupboards, under beds etc. until Christmas Eve, even though everyone is old enough to know where everything comes from.

OhGiveUp · 22/12/2021 18:14

When the kids were little, we used to hide them and then when DH took them out for a walk prior to dinner, I would put them under the tree.
When they got older I'd just put them under the tree once I'd wrapped them.
I still stick DH and the dog's presents under the tree.

ufucoffee · 22/12/2021 18:24

Grown up presents under the tree. Children's presents put out when they are in bed on Xmas eve.

bluesky45 · 22/12/2021 18:28

All presents except Santa presents go under the tree as they are wrapped or received. Some are for our household, from our household i.e me to the DC. Some are for others i.e us to my parents. Some are for us from others i.e for the DC from my friends. The DC never touch them, they are 4 and 2. I have no idea why they aren't bothered. Santa presents go under on Christmas eve.

camperqueen54 · 22/12/2021 18:30

They go under when wrapped. All that shannanigans of moving heaps of presents in the middle of the night. No thanks!

GTAlogic · 22/12/2021 18:30

No. They don't fit (that's not me trying to show off btw; our trees are tiny and there's no space underneath them) and I wouldn't want them on show or within easy reach for potential burglars. We keep them in the cupboard in our room until Xmas day morning.

BoudecaBains · 22/12/2021 18:33

Under the tree once they are wrapped.

Youhaveyourhandsfull · 22/12/2021 18:38

@NumaNumaYay

All the gifts have numbers on them not name tags. Come Christmas morning the kids will pick up random gifts and I’ll then tell them which child it’s for. The younger ones enjoy dishing out gifts.

Clymene · 22/12/2021 18:39

Under the tree to increase anticipation.

WorraLiberty · 22/12/2021 18:42

Under the tree on Christmas morning since our local police warned everyone years ago, that leaving them under the tree is too handy for burglars.

It was weird at first but then we just got used to it.

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 22/12/2021 18:45

On Christmas Eve, when Santa delivers them.

All presents came from him when I was small, so that's carried on now I have DD (who's 6 and already absolutely bursting with excitement!)

They're up in the loft at the minute, ready to be wrapped on Christmas Eve when DD is fast asleep. I also have a kitchen and a medical centre to build, so that'll be fun Xmas GrinWine

irregularegular · 22/12/2021 18:46

We put them all there Xmas eve. Even though kids are almost grown up now. It seems much more exciting having them all appear like that! Exception would be if someone dropped off a present, then we'd probably put it straight under the tree. The presents that are there are all from us/father xmas. My family bring some more during the day.

Angel2702 · 22/12/2021 18:48

Christmas Eve, we’ve tried putting them out earlier and they get moved, cat rips the paper etc and they look disheveled by Christmas Day.

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 22/12/2021 18:49

I can't put any under the tree as my tree is almost dead already. Not just needles but whole twigs falling off!

Usually just friends /relatives stuff goes under the tree. All of ours we put out Xmas eve. Santa only brings stockings and one present but my kids would poke them and my cat would sit on them.

Ididanamechange · 22/12/2021 18:54

I put the family presents under the tree yesterday but seriously regretted it this morning when 4 year old ds woke up at 5am asking if it was Christmas day yet. Can't really move them now but might go with what your husband says next year 😆
I do agree it looks lovely seeing them under there though

WakeUpLockie · 22/12/2021 20:00

Yes we’ve had them under the tree for weeks. Kids 6 and 4 have ignored them really. Santa brings stocking and one present which they ask for when we go to a grotto so everything else is under the tree.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/12/2021 22:01

Under the tree as wrapped and then stocking- big present eg bike, scooter Xmas Eve

willowstar · 22/12/2021 22:35

We put our tree up on Christmas Eve in the morning...I work up until the 23rd...24th is the day to put the tree up, make sure all of the laundry is done and put away, then relax. Any presents received before 24th are out under the tree on Christmas Eve, otherwise I out all the presents from us out after the children are in bed. They are older now and have never really believed in Santa but we still do it this way.

inappropriateraspberry · 23/12/2021 08:50

Ours go under the tree as they are wrapped/given. They love looking at them and it's a good lesson in patience that they have to wait to open them!
Santa only brings the stockings, so no confusion as to who they are from.

inappropriateraspberry · 23/12/2021 08:55

I've never understood having separate piles for the children. Surely the fun is also in checking the tags and passing them out. Also stops them diving in and just ripping it all open in one go. We take turns to open our gifts so we see what everyone gets and there is opportunity to thank the giver if they are there.

BiddyPop · 23/12/2021 09:07

Normally all except Santa presents go under the tree as they get wrapped or they arrive from others.

Unfortunately, we have a puppy, who loves paper shredding, so nothing is going under the tree until 25th when we are ready to open them this year. (We're just surprised that she has actually left the tree itself alone!). But the RTE Guide has already been shredded....(Irish equivalent of the Radio Times).
