Superking beds

Leonberger · 22/12/2021 08:50

Spent another night with DS squished in the middle, sweating to death and hanging off the edge of our double dreaming of having more space.

I really want a superking and am tempted to go online and order one right this second now Grin

But will it really make a difference? I have young 2 DC, both clingy little things (not ruled out number 3 either) and a tall DH.
Are they worth the money and hassle of not being able to find sheets and bedding easily?

It will fit in my room, just, if I sacrifice my bedside tables Blush

We have a superking, I will never move back to a smaller bed unless forced.
No kids, but two cats who sleep with us and seem to take up all of the space!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/12/2021 08:53

We have one and love it. We either use two double duvets or one king size.

Warning on octopus children though... my 8yo managed to push me off in the middle of the night recently. It was just me and her... (her grandparents were staying overnight so she shared with me)

RonSwansonsMustacheComb · 22/12/2021 08:54

Best decision ever for us.

We also sacrificed bedside tables.

Yes it's worth it and you can find sheets just as easily as any other bed size. Everywhere sells them!

CrappyXmasMarket · 22/12/2021 08:55

Sheets and bedding are not difficult to find. Might not be available in every range but you won't have a problem.

If it fits in your bedroom, order one. You won't regret it.

Leonberger · 22/12/2021 08:55

@violetbunny I forgot about the cat, he’s often somewhere in the mess of children and legs Grin

If sounds like heaven right now I’m my sleep deprived state but my mother is trying to put me off about the washing…oh and the cost! Everything seems hundreds more than even a king size for some strange reason!

God yes, worth every penny. One ds and a dog here that shares with us, I complain bitterly when I have to share a standard double.
Also Denelm do lovely superking bedding at very reasonable prices. The sales make it even better value so its the perfect time.

Simonjt · 22/12/2021 08:57

We have a superking, most nights its all 98kg of me, husband, my six year old, dog and cat. We all have room without disturbing each other, I personally don’t find bedding difficult to find.

Daisydoesnt · 22/12/2021 08:58

Honestly OP everywhere that sells bed linen will sell superking size.

Absolutely DO make sure you upgrade your duvet to a superking (and don't try to make do with your old kingsize, or god forbid, double). There's nothing worse than being in a lovely big bed and still having a tug of war over the duvet!

I have a tall DH and two dogs on the bed (yes I know, my bad). With a SK bed there is room for everyone.

RedMozzieYellowMozzie · 22/12/2021 08:59

I love mine it's amazing. It's not hard to find bedding for them in dunelm for eg

violetbunny · 22/12/2021 08:59

I'm sure you would be able to shop around online for suitable bedding at a reasonable price, especially at this time of year. I always buy a size up in sheets anyway! It means the fitted sheets actually fit even after they've been in the dryer Smile

Daisydoesnt · 22/12/2021 08:59

Don't listen to your mother - if she's anything like mine she'll think a double is perfectly adequate Hmm

Leonberger · 22/12/2021 08:59

Our dogs are 80kgs each- no chance of them being allowed in Grin

I’m about 3 seconds away from pressing buy it now thanks to you all Grin

I changed to a super king when I moved house . It is amazing . DS6 love to squish between us and now there is more than enough room . The bedding is always available in Dunelm Mills, but changing the fitted sheet is a real work out !

SpacePotato · 22/12/2021 09:03

Even Asda sell super king bedding sets for £20.
Do it. Best thing we bought.

Whitechocraspberrycheesecake · 22/12/2021 09:05

Our super king bed is honestly the bed thing I’ve ever bought. We’ve had it a few years now and I still regularly comment to DH about how much I love it!

As others have said, bedding isn’t hard to get and the washing and drying isn’t particularly different from that of a double bed.

Whitechocraspberrycheesecake · 22/12/2021 09:05

Best*

Mydogisagentleman · 22/12/2021 09:05

Do it.
We have never looked back, just me and DH in ours, two single duvets.

Lipsandlashes · 22/12/2021 09:07

Do it this second now! We’ve had a superking for 11 years now and it more than comfortably fits DH, me and DDs (8 and 10), when necessary. Best nights sleep I’ve ever had.

Rolypolybabies · 22/12/2021 09:08

Best thing we ever did. Unless you are bothered about matching bedding, it is often really cheap in the m and s 70% off sale as not so many people buy it

2reefsin30knots · 22/12/2021 09:08

Yes, we bought a superking when the writing was on the wall that DS was going to get in with us regularly for a long time. Best decision ever.

We also have a double duvet each on it. That means when DS (who is 11 and 5ft6 btw) turns up at 2am, he just goes in the gap between the duvets. Helps with not getting kicked. Confused

It's easy to get bedding.

moggle · 22/12/2021 09:08

I love ours and we can have a kid in the middle without too much disruption but if they’re the type to lie horizontally you’re still stuffed haha. However I will be honest and say we don’t change the sheets as often as we used to. It’s not much more hassle than the king but it’s just enough to put us off, IYSWIM. Also we’re still in the stage where we’re supposed to flip the mattress regularly and that’s a real ball ache even though we have a Zip and link (beware of having enough room to get a full size SK mattress up your stairs and into the bedroom if you go for that option)

HeidiHaus · 22/12/2021 09:10

Do it! I bitterly regret not buying ours when the DC were younger....hours of lost sleep I'll never get back Grin

SK bedding is available everywhere, I've bought sets from Asda, Argos etc.

The downside is that if you're away from home sleeping in a standard double it feels very squashed!

Davina69 · 22/12/2021 09:11

Another super king fan here. I've never found bedding difficult to buy but changing it is a bugger ! The only problem will be when you are going on holiday and the only availability is for rooms with double beds ...

Lipsandlashes · 22/12/2021 09:11

Also just to say we buy bedding from Sleep and Soak or M&S - it’s really easy to find.
