For me, it has to be Robbie Williams.. I feel irate when I hear him on the radio. I will never ever like his voice.

Wally Adele

@Porcupineintherough

Kate Bush. And I know I'm alone in this.
You are most certainly not alone. However she made it big is a mystery. She wrote one good song, that's it. Horrific voice, and an output of tuneless dirges, together with hilariously bad videos of her basically doing aerobics slowly.
SirChenjins · 22/12/2021 17:11

I agree. I don’t even like Wuthering Heights because it’s a screeching, wailing piece of self indulgent poo. If she wasn’t gorgeous and the subject of many teenage fantasies she would have been shown the door years ago, or at least stayed well out on the fringes. There, I’ve said it.

thecatneuterer · 22/12/2021 17:16

I do actually like Wuthering Heights as I was studying it for O level when the song came out, and I was completely obsessed with the book. The song for me captured the rather weird, dream like essence of the book. But then I was an impressionable teenager at the time. I think though objectively @SirChenjins you are probably accurate in your summation of it.

@FrankiesCheeseTruckle

Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Christina Aguilera - all lovely voices when they Sing normally but they have to do the whole histrionics and caterwauling thing which sounds like nails on a blackboard.
"Caterwauling?" I thought I was the only one who uses that word 🤣
thatsallineed · 22/12/2021 17:35

Morrissey.

drpet49 · 22/12/2021 17:36

Tones and I- her voice is horrible
Rihanna
Bloke from Dire Straits

RobertSmithsLipstick · 22/12/2021 17:37

Nah! Not mozza??
No, I can see why people would dislike him intensely, even though I like him rather a lot.

Twatling · 22/12/2021 17:42

JLo. Should've left Ashanti's vocals on all her songs and not tried to mess with them at all.

Also Girls Aloud

ScreamingMeMe · 22/12/2021 18:05

Anyone who does that gurgly, croaky little girl voice like Ellie Golding, Billie Eilish and Tara Salahi.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 22/12/2021 18:28

Yep! She's so screechy too. youtu.be/X8O6Vqn4nNk
Honestly so warbly and horrible! Ruined Rhydian's performance imo

Holy shit, I physically recoiled at ! 😬😫 OK, I'm adding Katherine Jenkins to my list.

The Elton John "I'm dill danding" is awful, but at least it's laughable. So true about it sounding like Vic Reeves parodying him 😂

User135644 · 22/12/2021 18:38

All the modern day whiny male singers

All the modern day female singers who practically whisper through songs.

FuzzyPuffling · 22/12/2021 19:13

Amy Winehouse.

WarmSausageTea · 22/12/2021 19:57

I like Ellie Goulding’s songs, but she sounds like an adenoidal six year old.

Same with Pet Shop Boys; some banging tunes, but Neil Tenant’s voice… I just can’t.

ScreamingMeMe · 22/12/2021 21:20

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Katherine Jenkins. Her transitions between chest and head voice sound like me changing gears in an early driving lesson (and yes, I was a terrible learner and switched to automatic...)

I can't stand when she does that operatic/choirgirl singing that she's known for, as it just sounds so fake and forced; but when she was on Masked Singer, and just sang normally, I thought it was really beautiful.

I always assumed that Janis Joplin was doing it defiantly: knowing that she had no singing voice at all, as if the brutality of the delivery was there to artistically frame the content. To be fair, I've often thought the same about Bob Dylan - almost as if there's an idea that presenting a song with a voice like Jocelyn Brown's or Roy Orbison's would somehow detract from the message?!

I LOVE Janis singing Piece of My Heart - the raw emotion really hits me every time.
Fireworksatforty · 22/12/2021 21:24

Sam Smith and Adele. Both too warbly ?sp

HalfBrick · 22/12/2021 21:30

Lighthouse Family singer. Visceral reaction, can't stand it.
Singer from Embrace.
Ellie Goulding.
Lead singer in B*witched.

HalfBrick · 22/12/2021 21:34

Also can't stand Anne Marie's New Yoik signing accent. Wtf is that about?

IWanderedLonely · 22/12/2021 22:01

28lovemyaussie

And, Sting! Not as a person, I've met him and he was fine, but I just cannot stand his voice. Fields of Gold? Hate it! Turn it off, every single time....
Now, I love this song and find Sting's voice quite inoffensive.
However any singer (started by Whitney Houston) who uses 20 syllables when 1 will do - hate it.
I do like Ed Sheeran & James Blunt.
Always thought Rod Stewart & Bonnie Tyler needed a few Strepsils.

bluebell34567 · 22/12/2021 22:29

miley cyrus.

RobertaFirmino · 22/12/2021 23:21

@RobertSmithsLipstick

How could I have forgotten Cerys Mathews?! I bloody loathe that song about rrrrrroad rrrrrrrrrrage!
She sounds like a strangled cat when she sings in English. Have you ever heard her singing in Welsh though? She sounds really lovely!
sixthformdropout · 23/12/2021 00:29

Billie Eilish

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/12/2021 00:40

I think that's two people now who've said Tunde Baiyewu (singer in Lighthouse Family). That really does surprise me - I've always found his smooth mellow voice extremely pleasant to listen to.

I have RTFT, but I can't now remember if we've had Alicia Keys yet. On the face of it, a beautiful voice; but always just that tiny, tiny little bit flat that makes it really jarring. Not only is the New York parody about Newport a better-written song anyway, but Terema Wainwright's voice on it is so much nicer to listen to!

PrancingQueen · 23/12/2021 01:34

Deloris O’Riordan - can bear the yelping.

Bjork - aaargh! Especially the mockney accent.

Heather Small - honking goose was a great description Grin

Charlene Spitari too. Not so much her voice but the shit lyrics.

Any breathy pathetic sounding singers.

Thursa · 23/12/2021 01:37

Mariah Carey, all that shrieky shit makes me want to stab myself in the ears.

Bieber, just all round crap.

Celine Dion, awful.
