Watched the Princess Bride with Cary Elwes for the first time today - HOLY SMOKES!!! He is gorgeous in it! I’ve never ever once found him the least bit attractive in anything else he’s been in but crikey I almost swooned when he came on screen with his floppy blonde hair and Zorro outfit 🤤

Who else is only ever attractive in one role?

Agree with Jon Hamm as Don Draper. I didn't recognise him in Bridesmaids, he's obviously a good actor but fuck, how can he be so hot in one role and so obnoxious (deliberately) in another?

Controversial I suspect but Andrew Scott as Lord Merlin. Every other role I just see Ant and Dec merged together and while I loved Fleabag I thought the so-called 'hot priest' was a complete fuck up. Lord Merlin on the other hand is sexy as fuck and genuinely cares about Linda.

Russell Crowe was absolutely smoking in Gladiator. In every other role, not so much. Even when he was young.

Aiden Turner I only really fancy when he is Ross Poldark. He's a fine looking man but strangely only Captain Ross cuts the mustard. I don't even understand why.

He was pretty hot in "And Then There Were None", but I mostly agree with you.

Also, in real life he looks a bit manky. Like a waiter in your local hippy vegan restaurant. Yes, I'm sure he's devastated by my opinion.

John hamm, but only as Don draper. Don draper in the corner office. Billy Bob Thornton in bad santa. Matthew mconnaughey, but only in true detective David tenant in Cassanova. Another Negan fan. Had a daryl. Thing for a bit, but then he got a bit broken and I didn't like that.

Mark Rylance as Thomas Cromwell! Does absolutely nothing for me as himself or in other roles, but Cromwell - I think it's the long-suffering glances. I just want to run him a bath and get in with him

Yes. Hot as hell in that role, but not in any other role. Also kind of blah in RL. Objectively handsome, but he just looks like a CNN news reader or Midwestern Democrat senator. Just lacking that je ne sais quoi.

Thought of another though other May not agree with me - Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. Every other non-weird role - Gilbert Grape, The Tourist, Finding Neverland etc - he was weird at worst, feminine at best but as Jack Sparrow he’s somehow VERY manly and sexy!

I was coming to say Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. He doesn't do it for me at all, but in that he is hot.

YES. His attitude is hilarious. Particularly when he gets the birthday cake that says "happy birthday cunt" and he says "well this could be from anyone". An icon.

If he changed his hairstyle and dress sense IRL he would be just as attractive IMO.

Chris Barrie as Ace Rimmer. He was absolutely ripped in his youth and there were a couple of episodes of Red Dwarf where he stripped off. It shows how good an actor he is because he looked exactly the same as Arnold Rimmer but wasn’t so attractive.

Aahh, I think Adam Driver is beautiful in everything, but concede that he might be a bit “marmite” for some.

For me it’s Kenneth Branagh as Wallander and Richard Harrington as DCI Tom Matthias. I have no idea why middle-aged, rumpled, depressed detectives are my jam

And Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock is the epitome of “only hot in the one role” for me.
