Dessert ideas for Christmas meal. Cheesecake?

What are your alternative desserts for your Christmas meal. We won't be having turkey and nobody in the extended family likes mince pies or Christmas pudding.
What would you serve?
They like cheesecake - how could I make it Christmassy?

Pavlova or mini meringue nests are nice

Spiced apple cheesecake with ginger-nut biscuit base

AnnPerkins · 20/12/2021 18:15

I’m making a Baileys cheesecake 😋

DuesToTheDirt · 20/12/2021 18:15

Zucotto is great and more fancy-looking than cheesecake. It's a bit of a faff as you have to make it in layers and keep freezing it, but it can all be done in advance.

There are lots of recipes online, each a little different.

We always have to have tiramisu. It‘s the law. We also always have lemon tart with fresh raspberries and cream.

Theforest · 20/12/2021 18:30

We often have yule log with cream.

You could Christmas up a cheesecake with dusting icing sugar with a christmas stencil.

Elieza · 20/12/2021 18:51

I quite fancy cheesecake. Or After eight cake (recipe online somewhere).

elephantoverthehill · 20/12/2021 18:54

Dd is doing lemon cheese cake and profiteroles. Well those are my orders.

HarrisMcCoo · 20/12/2021 18:56

I bought the patisserie selection from Iceland. Lots of different slices for everyone to try. Something to suit everyone.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/12/2021 18:58

I made a Basque Cheesecake a couple of weeks ago.

I'll be making it for NY's, it will be wasted after the turkey and stuffing and so on.

Nigella's ice cream cake. With hot butterscotch sauce.

SeaToSki · 20/12/2021 19:07

Buche de noel (chocolate log) with baileys salted caramel whipped cream and raspberries

I’m doing a Terry’s choc orange cheesecake. Chocolate in the mix and then decorated with segments and orange peel. Yum.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/12/2021 19:13

Pavlova w passion fruit.. which would also be nice on cheesecake, but I would maybe go for sharp winter berries.. OR - barbados cream and baked plums.

toomuchlaundry · 20/12/2021 19:14

I do lemon meringue ice cream in the shape of a Christmas pudding

RedLemon · 20/12/2021 19:15

I’ve no idea how it will turn out but we’re having a chocolate biscuit cake and putting that roll-out icing on it so the DC can decorate it on Christmas Eve with lots of cheerily tacky decorations😊

Nigella's Gelato cake with chocolate sauce and fresh raspberries

www.nigella.com/recipes/meringue-gelato-cake-with-chocolate-sauce

I've made it today and put it in the freezer, I'll make the sauce on Friday and get some raspberries.

We've had this for the last few years, it's so easy and quick to make and you make it in advance. None of us are fussed about mince pies or Christmas pud.

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 20/12/2021 20:16

We.always have a choice of Yule log or sticky toffee pudding with cream or custard. This year we are also having profiteroles. And ds has requested trifle. May have to spread these desserts out 🤣

Mia85 · 20/12/2021 20:26

I am making www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/italian_christmas_20000 though having seen her adding the liqueur I'll be doing an alternative for the children!

greatape · 20/12/2021 20:37

We are having:

Triffle
Pavlova
Ginger cake
Yule log
Heston Xmas pud
Dd doing Christmas shortbread
Mince pies
I am getting last years spare Xmas cake out of the freezer but not sure how it's fared

This will last from Xmas eve onward. BUT they are 1 pack of mini mince pies the smallest Xmas pud, the smallest Pav and triffle I can make. Dd2 will scoff the ginger cake and the Yule log will be half quantity.

I have learned from prior years everyone wants their own favourite but not much more than a slice or two max so I make a lot of small portions.

reluctantbrit · 20/12/2021 20:38

Yule log this year but we did Panna Cotta several times. Easy to make, can be make in advance and lighter than lots of other desserts.

Retrievemysanity · 20/12/2021 20:41

Yule log in this house although I did make a baked orange and cranberry cheesecake one year and that was amazing, might do that again actually!

VanillaYuletide · 20/12/2021 20:53

Do you buy your Yule Logs or make your own?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/12/2021 20:53

Do a chocolate board. Like a cheese or charcuterie board, but with loads of different chocs - everything from fancy truffles and broken up posh bars to fingers of KitKat and Maltesers.

Retrievemysanity · 20/12/2021 21:15

@VanillaYuletide I make my own. It’s an an Annabel karmel recipe I use. This year’s first effort!

Thanks @Retrievemysanity - another question, do you make it the day before?
