Does anyone know who is behind leaking this? Is it Cummings? I know he had that blog...

OverByYer · 19/12/2021 21:50

Id put money on Cummings leaking but its starting to feel like the night the long knives, the Tories are getting nervous as they can see Boris is starting to lose crucial poll points

User135644 · 19/12/2021 21:51

As someone said on Twitter it's worse than the picture looks because we're used to outdoor socialising now.

There were a lot of people taking the piss in the May bank holidays. You had packed out beaches, street parties, conga lines. Too many thought it was one big party rather than a pandemic.

Cummings is in the picture.
Forion · 19/12/2021 21:53

It's somebody who's playing the long game. Lockdowns don't affect these people - as we've seen.

I'm hoping it's Teresa May orchestrating it all, rubbing her hands in glee. Not a fan of hers, but Boris and his crew treated her badly. Hell hath no fury...

Poetrypatty · 19/12/2021 22:03

There's no reason to have taken that picture other than to get incriminating evidence. It's not Cummings he's in the photo.

Sorry for all of those who lost loved ones and couldn't see loved ones Flowers

Gretaburley · 19/12/2021 22:04

My cousin died that May and we couldn’t attend her funeral.
Utter bastards!

-Two hours later cheese and wine in 10 Downing Street.

What a bunch of jokers.

But the reason both of those - Bournemouth beach and conga lines for VE day - were news stories is that people were outraged at them, and believed that these were people selfishly and probably illegally breaking rules. If that picture had been released at the time it would have been incredibly shocking.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 19/12/2021 22:24

@Hbh17

I don't care & don't know anybody who does! It is all just so tedious.
I find that hard to believe
StoodOnAPlug · 19/12/2021 22:30

Seems curious that The Guardian articles make no mention of Cummings clearly being in the picture.

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 22:30

I love the idea of Theresa May having a good old laugh at this latest scoop.
I doubt she is behind it though. Not her style.
She knows it will damage the Conservatives too much and stop people abiding by any more restrictions too.

stingofthebutterfly · 19/12/2021 22:35

Bloody hypocrites, the lot of them. There's no chance those people on the grass are socially distancing. 2m is actually quite a large distance from someone you're talking to, and although they're not touching each other, there's no way there's 2m between each of them.

I fucking hate this government.

Neolara · 19/12/2021 22:47

I think it's interesting that this isn't yet on the BBC website. They have been actively pursuing the Downing Street parties stories.

Yep that new rule allowed me to see my DP for the first time since the lockdown started. We went for walks in a park, keeping 2 metres apart and would sit at opposite ends of a fucking bench and talk.

I was wfh at the time and hated it, I was really struggling with my mental health and loneliness, and was in tears at my laptop fairly often. I was begging to be allowed into the office (NHS) but was told no. I very much care about them having a fucking cheese and wine party while I was following the rules and nearly breaking mentally, and while many many others were having much much worse things happen to them.

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 22:57

The Bbc news mentioned it briefly tonight , blink and you'll miss it though !
It was odd.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 19/12/2021 22:59

I care but I am not at all surprised. Some awful stories on here I am so sorry for posters who lost people and could not say goodbye. I worked as a nurse in the NHS and had to partake in calls to family it was heartbreaking and inhumane. I had parked those feelings to protect myself but this makes me relive the whole thing. Selfish bastard's whoever thought Bojo would be fit to run our country look at his as London mayor. So so selfish and self important.

I remember my dd meeting her friend for a walk socially distanced with masks, it has all been so damaging, we have all lost alot, some more than others and nothing can change this. I hate Boris my dad voted him in I refuse to discuss him with my dad 😡.

lilacrosa · 19/12/2021 23:20

@HardbackWriter totally agree - FWIW I know people from the conga street and they were all mortified and the organiser really upset when they got called out in the Media. They had honestly thought the 2m distance thing was being adhered to. Everyone on the street stayed in their own front garden. The conga was the only bit where they went up and down the street 2m apart.

Yes, there were VE street parties, but NOT in any normal sense of the word 'party', it was people sitting in front gardens waving and shouting over to neighbours after being locked down for months.

Totally different to this photo and that is why it feels so utterly hypocritical.

I hope you don’t mind me quoting your post in full, because I feel this pretty much sums up why this is so wrong.

Boris can blah blah about how it was a work meeting and they weren’t breaking the law and Carrie lives there so of course she uses the garden, but the bottom line is they were all having a lovely evening chatting in a lovely setting with lovely wine and cheese whilst the rest of us weren’t, hadn’t been able to for a long time, and could only dream of a time when we might be allowed to do such a thing again.

OnAWinterMorningFarAway · 19/12/2021 23:38

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

yes....socially distanced street parties!! as everyone said op! not cancelled at all
Our local "VE Day street party" was six people, two of whom were the pub landlady and her 80+ years dad, all standing in the road at least two metres away from each other, listening to WW2 songs on a speaker drinking beer in plastic cups with some bunting. The pub was shut. No-one outside that 'bubble' joined in. I think it was to give the dad an experience.

DP and I walked past and waved.

It was all very sad and desultory, unlike the image from Downing Street which looks mellow and relaxed.

StrangeAddiction · 20/12/2021 00:08

Is that Dominic Cummings sitting opposite Carrie? If so, I doubt he's the source of the leak.

Joevanswell · 20/12/2021 00:32

@forion I am with you, every time I see these stories I think of that poor teenage boy. I have a similar aged son and remember crying when I read it at the time. Every one has sacrificed so much, untold damage has been done to mental health, education and our grandchildren will be buying for furlough. The thought of the very people who told us to sacrifice so much laughing and joking and blatantly ignoring the rules they set makes me incandescent with rage. I will NEVER vote Tory again having previously been a party member.
