I feel like people in our family are just making up rules now and it gets harder to actually get a point.
The line between yellow and yellow /orange blurs depending on who sees it. Also now we have points taking away.
I have checked the offical rules ( I know I use that term loosely ) and you are supposed to be able to hit someone. But I feel that could easily spin out of control
What are yours?

In our family seeing a yellow car is a sign of good luck :)

Lorries have to be at least 75% yellow, not just the cab. Two in a row is a double yolker, ambulances count only if they don't have their sirens on.

We banned as it got too violent amongst our DC

But from memory:
‘Yellow car’ must be a car not a van - punch
‘Mini pinch’ if you see a mini - pinch
‘Soft Top’ for a convertible - slap the top of the head.

All have the ‘No returns’ option.

We have a ‘car-only, no commercial vehicles’ rule, which helps with lorries etc.

And hitting is a must, or it doesn’t count.

We started it thanks to Arthur, then added the violence.

It's banana car and you have to announce you're playing it BEFORE you sees banana car and shout it.

If you see a yellow car, say "yellow car". You are always playing yellow car.

Ours is called ‘cheese on wheels’ - double points for ‘mini cheddar’. Point deducted for a mis-shout (ie turns out to be more orange or lime)

We don't play yellow car, we play mini punch. It has to be gentle. A yellow mini counts for 2 punches though. The game is constant and ongoing, there is no start or end.

For those who play yellow car thanks to Cabin Pressure, our lemon is also in play.

We changed it so that seeing a yellow car means giving a hug instead of a hit. If I'm alone I give myself a little hug

We do spot coloured cars when driving though. And eddy stobarts when going up northm

We include vans, trucks etc but they have to be mostly yellow (not just the cab for a artic, for example) and on the highway, travelling. So no diggers etc at the side of the road.

If just DH and I are playing it's a thump on the leg. Kids have started to get involved now so it has to be limited to a light punch. Boring.

I knew the game as Punch Buggy (from The Simpsons) where you get to punch if you see a VW Beetle car (aka 'bug'). Then my niece taught me Yellow Car and all I could think is what happens when you see a yellow VW Beetle....

Also play with Arthur Shappey rules, so no hitting but we are always playing yellow car.

We play from the living room (upstairs) but the Lamborghini from down the road doesn't count because you can hear it coming and he is up and down the road a lot!. Love cabin pressure

No commercial / branded vehicles, double points if it's a super car like Porsche/Ferrari. There are some minor disagreements on yellow veering into greens or oranges though!

Ok, this is a game that gets very.....competivive in our house hold.

We were introduced to it by my niece and nephew in Australia and they say "spotto" instead of yellow car

Our rules are:

1. has to be at least 50% yellow or it doesn't count
2. has to have a motor- push bikes don't count
3. the yellow can't be any darker than the rear number plate or it is declared McDonalds cheese.
4. nothing bigger than a transit van
5. counter is reset at the end of each journey (When keys come out of the ignition)

And just because we are really childish, when we see a bright green car, we shout "snotto" instead of "spotto" both count towards the points tally
