Would you report cocaine use at the Christmas party?

A member of staff was seen using and offered it to others too.

It's not something I do and I'd think it completely inappropriate. I wasn't there, but I'm not sure I'd have reported it.

It has been reported and staff member is suspended pending an investigation.

Would you have reported?

@NigellaBangBangTurkey

Snitches get stitches
What a ridiculous thing to say! I wouldn't want someone who takes cocaine teaching my child
Figgyboa · 14/12/2021 22:01

No

I was going to say - I think it depends. We’re they in a public venue where you people would have known who they worked ? Therefore bringing the company into disrepute.
Also depends if you like said person or not!!

However having seen it was a teacher - hell yeah! Knowing how coke effects you (people I have known, not me personally) there is no way I would want a coke head teaching my child on some massive come down …

Jowak1 · 14/12/2021 22:02

Where would we be if everyone turned a blind eye??

user478932071 · 14/12/2021 22:03

Teacher taking and sharing class A drug, hell yeah I would report, it’s not some weed

mamabananaz · 14/12/2021 22:03

@NigellaBangBangTurkey

😂

Neolara · 14/12/2021 22:03

I would be spectacularly unimpressed to see a teacher taking coke, not so much for the actual drug use, but because they should know exactly how county lines work to groom and exploit vulnerable children.

Helpstopthepain · 14/12/2021 22:05

Did anything at the party give away that it was a party of teachers?

When we have Christmas parties there are usually multiple parties at the same venue so they have the company name (or trust in my case in the nhs) on a big board to say which table is which. We know that despite it being a party we are identifiable as nhs workers

Out of interest who reported it ? A fellow teacher ?

EwwSprouts · 14/12/2021 22:06

Yes if on school premises or if they were going to drive.

I would think they were an absolute fool to use because someone will put a photo on social media and that will be career gone.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/12/2021 22:06

"it's creating demand for something that exploits people in the supply chain"

Same as a lot of things we buy.

justasking111 · 14/12/2021 22:07

I wouldn't because I'm totally oblivious OH says I never recognise the smell of weed so really wouldn't notice a coke head unless they were splitting it up on a glass table like in the movies.
Yes. I don’t understand the acceptance of the use of a drug which causes utter misery in many poor countries. Such users are indeed utter cunts, the cause of the atrocities as set out from excerpt below and I hope karma gets them.

A quote from linked article:

Decapitations and burning people alive are just the start. Chainsaws, belt sanders, acid—these things are used very creatively by cartel torturers. They disembowel bloggers and sew faces to soccer balls. Children are forced to work as assassins, people are forced to rape strangers at gunpoint, and lines of victims are killed one at a time with a single hammer. Many of those people disappear into unmarked graves. If their bodies are ever found, they are described in the media with antiseptic words like “mutilated.”

www.ebony.com/news/the-torture-murder-and-horror-of-the-cocaine-industry-981/
The users have blood on their hands but the war on drugs has been an utter disaster.

BCBG · 14/12/2021 22:08

@Lilolily

No. They’re grown adults and can do as they please. As long as nobody was being pressured into doing it leave them be.
Really? And presumably that applies to other illegal behaviour they might indulge in? Drive home from the party drunk? Smack their partner in the mouth later that night? Pick up a taxi and leave without paying? Class A drugs are illegal and participation funds a whole world of misery and criminality that puts other lives at risk. Being over the age of 18 does not entitle anyone to break the law. This reframing of Class A drug use as a harmless middle class game does my head in. I deal with the consequences at work all the time. 😡😡
PoshPyjamas · 14/12/2021 22:08

No I wouldn’t, but I would gossip about it like mad 😀

xprincessxjanetx · 14/12/2021 22:09

I would report a teacher yes. I wouldn't be happy knowing my child was being taught by someone who is irresponsible enough to take drugs.

It was reported by three different staff members, none of them teachers.

It sounds like it was a lively evening. Lots of people claiming very little memory of it!

It was a public place and very obvious where the staff were from

Staff seem to be split between "stupid sod gets what he deserves". And "OMG who grassed?"

Much like here Grin

Is class A use really this acceptable?

The damage and exploitation it causes along the production and retail route is surely enough to put off an intelligent adult?

Gwenhwyfar · 14/12/2021 22:10

"Don't fancy using my defib training on somebody in front of the kids when it could be avoided by not taking the one thing that causes most cardiac events in men under 45."

I hope you don't approve of teachers going on skiing holidays either then or doing anything that risks their health.

redbigbananafeet · 14/12/2021 22:10

@Jobseeker19

Yes. Middle class cocaine use needs to be cracked down on
But lower class and upper class is ok?
maddy68 · 14/12/2021 22:10

You weren't there , what's it got to do with you ?

MojoJojo71 · 14/12/2021 22:10

Yes I think I probably would. I’m not a teacher but am a healthcare professional and I think this would be a fitness to practice issue, as it should be for a teacher.

HeartsAndClubs · 14/12/2021 22:11

Yes.

And to the “mind your own business brigade,” what else would you turn a blind eye to? Child abuse? Murder? The trafficking of women? Because the drug trade encompasses all of those things.

Or is it that the people who wouldn’t report do a few lines of their own and wouldn’t want people finding out?

Nevertime · 14/12/2021 22:11

@maddy68

Exactly what I said in the OP, I was wondering what I would have done.

They aren't as likely to drop dead in front of a class that way, though. Or completely lose their shit with an annoying teenager because they're hanging or did a quick bump during their PPA.
