Would you report cocaine use at the Christmas party?

Nevertime · 14/12/2021 20:56

A member of staff was seen using and offered it to others too.

It's not something I do and I'd think it completely inappropriate. I wasn't there, but I'm not sure I'd have reported it.

It has been reported and staff member is suspended pending an investigation.

Would you have reported?

Jobseeker19 · 14/12/2021 22:14

Thats not what that meant as the OP was talking about a teacher. Stop trying to 'All Lives Matter' the point I was trying to make. It is very clear that middle class drug use is seen as blameless and less harmful. Also who the fuck knows a lot of upper class people?! I don't. But I know a lot of middle class people.

Bowsandbows · 14/12/2021 22:15

I am legally obligated to report something like this.

There is no chance I’m risking anything from losing my job, most likely, to a criminal conviction, highly unlikely but technically possible, because a colleague decided to be an idiot.

Blinkingbatshit · 14/12/2021 22:16

Supporting County Lines & child abuse. Stop kidding yourselves, if you’re buying coke this is what you’re doing, end of. Middle classes need to wake up and see what their recreational fun is doing to those further down the chain. True scum & they should be outed for it.

housemaus · 14/12/2021 22:16

No, I wouldn't. What my colleagues do in their own time is up to them (and I'd say the same about any profession, as long as it's not affecting their ability to do their job).

Furries · 14/12/2021 22:17

@ShirleyPhallus

HR and OH obviously (as per the substance abuse guidance).

Lol at “obviously”, I’m not a teacher so had no idea there was an OH or substance abuse policy. Obviously.

Not sure why the lol at “obviously”. I’m not a parent, nor am I a teacher. But I’d definitely have assumed that there would be fairly well laid out guidelines for those in the profession.
whistleryukon · 14/12/2021 22:17

If there was a LADO meeting about this (which there will be/already will have happened) and it came to light that other staff members were aware and didn't report, they would face disciplinary action too.

ffscovid · 14/12/2021 22:18

@Jobseeker19

People need to look at the chain. Where did they buy it from?

It is devastating my local area and people are not victimless or minding their own business by condoning this type of behaviour.

A lot of children get sent 'country', to go and sell drugs away from their area and there is a lot of child trafficing involved.

How could a teacher whose duty it is to safeguard children be involved in this chain of command?

This. Regardless of my views about drug use being stupid and dangerous, it is highly immoral and the whole supply chain exploits the most vulnerable in society. A teacher whose job it is to protect children should not be involved in an industry that does the exact opposite.
EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 14/12/2021 22:18

Utter cunts. Shouldn't be anywhere near children.

user478932071 · 14/12/2021 22:19

So many ignorant people on this thread with no idea of drug supply chain and exploitation, I mean why care when you can have fun and live in a fucking first world country with no accountability.

Lollyneenah · 14/12/2021 22:20

Yes I'd report - I meet young fellas who have been caught up in County lines about 3 x per week, it's not a life I would wish on anyone.

Scautish · 14/12/2021 22:20

@User135644

The users have blood on their hands but the war on drugs has been an utter disaster.

Totally agree. But where there is a huge demand for a high margin product there will be many -including those ostensibly trying to stop the trafficking - trying to get their share of the profits. And lack of stigmatisation for the users (unlike that of heroin users) is a huge problem too.

Legalisation is the only way to end this but I can’t see that happening soon.

NothingIsWrong · 14/12/2021 22:20

@housemaus

No, I wouldn't. What my colleagues do in their own time is up to them (and I'd say the same about any profession, as long as it's not affecting their ability to do their job).
You're OK with working with people who contribute to this?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-55709564

I am fucking absolutely not OK with having anything to do with ruining children's lives and you shouldn't be either.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 14/12/2021 22:21

I'm staggered that anyone would be stupid enough to do it at a works christmas party, unless it was the hospitality or entertainment industry where its rife. Anywhere that you have an external reputation to keep, why would you risk it? Also the hypocrisy...you would expel a pupil for taking drugs on a school trip.

PyongyangKipperbang · 14/12/2021 22:22

Of course!

I am agog at those saying that they would MTOB....so you're happy with a coke head being in charge of your kids?!

I cant help wondering if those who would keep their mouths shut are also using. As for "Snitches get stiches..." words fail me.

TheMoth · 14/12/2021 22:23

I take it all those who think this is OK would be happy with their own kids getting involved in selling it? As it's not really a problem.

As a teacher, I'm shit scared of my kids getting involved in this. And scared for those who already are.

As a parent who lives in a county lines hot spot, I'm shit scared of my kids walking home from school and getting caught up in this shit.

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 14/12/2021 22:23

I wouldn't report it but I'm not particularly surprised that someone else did, if the person was stupid enough to be seen offering it to others. They sound like an idiot.

HollowTalk · 14/12/2021 22:24

I don't believe it about hard partying teachers. Most teachers go home and have to do a load of work. There's no way most people are partying like that when they have a job like teaching.

Coronado2 · 14/12/2021 22:24

Yes, I would.

Ariann · 14/12/2021 22:25

Disgusting, weak immoral people turning a blind eye to the murder, rape and torture that takes place so they can snort that shit up their noses.
Absolute cunts who should know better.

MousesBack · 14/12/2021 22:26

No, but I might have gossiped so it became widely known.

TheRigatonini · 14/12/2021 22:27

No I wouldn’t have reported it.

sussexman · 14/12/2021 22:28

Yes, I would.

Annotherchange · 14/12/2021 22:28

I was absolutely going to say no but the I saw it was a teacher. That makes a difference IMO, same as if it was our local police officer.

Dyrne · 14/12/2021 22:28

I can’t believe the wilful ignorance displayed on here. County lines ruins childrens lives here in the UK, not to mention the horrific abuses suffered by those involved in the trade overseas.

But I suppose it’s OK to turn a blind eye to the abuse of poor people as long as the middle class luvvies doing it are only doing it to “let off a bit of steam”.

Pantsomime · 14/12/2021 22:29

I’d report- am stunned by how many people appear happy for coke heads to be teaching their children by saying no one’s business. It’s illegal for a reason it messes with your head, finances, relationships, judgement, priorities and life generally and your children if it’s fine to be using on a work night out
