Would you report cocaine use at the Christmas party?

A member of staff was seen using and offered it to others too.

It's not something I do and I'd think it completely inappropriate. I wasn't there, but I'm not sure I'd have reported it.

It has been reported and staff member is suspended pending an investigation.

Would you have reported?

Those saying they’d report it - who to?

Onehotmess · 14/12/2021 21:09

Yes I would have reported it. They shouldn’t be offering it out, completely out of order. It only takes one more vulnerable person to take it, lose control or whatever and end up in a precarious situation. Poor form from a teacher. Also illegal obvs

Haggisfish3 · 14/12/2021 21:09

I’m a teacher and I would if it was a work do-you just don’t do that!!

JaninaDuszejko · 14/12/2021 21:09

Yes. But I work in an industry where drug use is not acceptable and would have implications for the whole company. We drug test everyone when they are offered a job (and retract offers if some fails the test) and do random drug testing of employees.

Haggisfish3 · 14/12/2021 21:09

I’d report it to head to be honest.

If I was there at the time & saw it being offered, I’d tell the security/management of the establishment.

HR and OH obviously (as per the substance abuse guidance).

People need to look at the chain. Where did they buy it from?

It is devastating my local area and people are not victimless or minding their own business by condoning this type of behaviour.

A lot of children get sent 'country', to go and sell drugs away from their area and there is a lot of child trafficing involved.

How could a teacher whose duty it is to safeguard children be involved in this chain of command?

Unreasonabubble · 14/12/2021 21:12

I don't know that I would be happy for a cocaine head to be teaching my children right from wrong in a school. Now it's been reported, word will get out. They will not be allowed to teach again.

WaningMoon · 14/12/2021 21:12

Yes. Middle class cocaine use needs to be cracked down on

100 percent agree.

Are you 10 years old?
Slipperoo · 14/12/2021 21:12

I would if it was a works party, if you can't go without a bump in front of colleagues that'd pretty fucking sad. people say ah it's up to people if they do it, but it's creating demand for something that exploits people in the supply chain, including young children- it's not victimless.

MrsIPFreely · 14/12/2021 21:13

Lilolily but they can't. It's illegal. All those kids that get excluded schools are probably being exploited for county lines drug deals so morally it's also really shit.

User135644 · 14/12/2021 21:13

I'd have phoned the police first.

Chloemol · 14/12/2021 21:13

Yes

gettingolderbutcooler · 14/12/2021 21:13

No it's nobody's business.

Tee20x · 14/12/2021 21:14

Don't get people who report others for things like this how does it benefit you? Too much going on in my own life to concern myself with others. Presumably those who were offered either turned him down or joined in? He wasn't ramming it up their noses or spiking people?

ReceptionTA · 14/12/2021 21:15

No I wouldn't report it, and I don't think other staff members would either. It wouldn't go down well though. It's definitely not the norm with young teachers where I work. They're too obsessed with saving for house deposits and getting married/pregnant.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/12/2021 21:15

I presume this didn't happen on school premises? In which case I wouldn't report but it would make me feel uncomfortable

ShirleyPhallus · 14/12/2021 21:15

HR and OH obviously (as per the substance abuse guidance).

Lol at “obviously”, I’m not a teacher so had no idea there was an OH or substance abuse policy. Obviously.

Jobseeker19 · 14/12/2021 21:15

Also as part of safeguarding training that all teachers and nursery practitioners have to do, they teach you about vulnerable children and county lines and the devastatingeffects it can have on children.

I would be ashamed of this teacher, especially if they are encouraging other people to take drugs.

liveforsummer · 14/12/2021 21:15

Well I wouldn't report it myself but I don't feel especially sorry for the teacher in question not for taking it - their choice - but offering it around a staff party is pretty poor judgment

Wizzbangfizz · 14/12/2021 21:15

Nope not unless it was on work premises and even then I probably wouldn't
