Would you report cocaine use at the Christmas party?

Nevertime · 14/12/2021 20:56

A member of staff was seen using and offered it to others too.

It's not something I do and I'd think it completely inappropriate. I wasn't there, but I'm not sure I'd have reported it.

It has been reported and staff member is suspended pending an investigation.

Would you have reported?

Not normally, but you say the person was a teacher - where was the party? In a restaurant, fine, on school premises, no way is that acceptable .

Mwnci123 · 14/12/2021 21:18

No

fournonblondes · 14/12/2021 21:20

@Nevertime

Sorry so as not to drip feed it was a teacher, if that makes a difference.
Yes I would. School are rife with drugs so it is bad.
MrsDThomas · 14/12/2021 21:20

Lots of us work hard, and dont use drugs.

I actually would. I work for an establishment where its clear drug taking taken seriously, and if tested and if positive on a work day, its sackable. Like mist workplaces. Its still in your system after the party.

Absolutely loathe drugs

milkandone · 14/12/2021 21:20

Been in this exact situation a couple of years ago and didn't report it. It doesn't look great on the individual but I didn't think it was any of my business as long as not on school time or property.

DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2021 21:21

I think I would report it, yes.

BumCatSmile · 14/12/2021 21:21

No, I'd stay out of it.

Tbh I know a police officer, a teacher and a midwife who do coke at the occasional party. I don't think any professions are completely clean and innocent.

I went as a girlfriend to a surgeons work Christmas party once and that was an eye opener.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/12/2021 21:23

No. Management at my place wouldn't care anyway, as long as it's not affecting work. I work in a factory though so it's not the same as being a teacher!

FindingMeno · 14/12/2021 21:23

No.

BumCatSmile · 14/12/2021 21:23

@User135644

I'd have phoned the police first.

As if the police would have turned up to a teachers Christmas party. They hardly turn up for burglaries.

NothingIsWrong · 14/12/2021 21:23

Yes I would. We have random drug testing anyway so I doubt anyone would be that daft.

I work for one of the emergency services, although not front line, and am also a school governor - county lines exploitation is absolutely fucking hideous and ruins children's lives.

CovidFreeChristmas · 14/12/2021 21:24

@Tee20x

Don't get people who report others for things like this how does it benefit you? Too much going on in my own life to concern myself with others. Presumably those who were offered either turned him down or joined in? He wasn't ramming it up their noses or spiking people?

It's cocaine. Teachers are (should be) well clued up on county lines and how children are used to transport drugs. If a teacher can forget safeguarding for a quick fix, when else will they forget to safeguard a child? It is soooo massively against everything a teacher should support. They are risking their career. I couldn't work with a colleague that used cocaine.

And no, I'm not a prude. Teenage/early 20s me would have joined in but I'm not that stupid anymore.

lliitttlepiinkhouse · 14/12/2021 21:25

Depends entirely on the type of job they have.

A sales person/office worker etc, no.

Teacher, social worker, someone in a position of trust, yes I would report them.

I don't believe in grassing people up and reporting people generally but if they are in a job where they need to have clear judgement etc then I don't think it could be ignored.

Nevertime · 14/12/2021 21:26

FWIW it has been reported to the police and they do appear to be taking it seriously. They've asked the venue for CCTV

StrawberryJamSandwiches · 14/12/2021 21:27

I wouldn't report but like someone else said, if I was asked directly, I wouldn't lie.

@Jobseeker19

People need to look at the chain. Where did they buy it from?

It is devastating my local area and people are not victimless or minding their own business by condoning this type of behaviour.

A lot of children get sent 'country', to go and sell drugs away from their area and there is a lot of child trafficing involved.

How could a teacher whose duty it is to safeguard children be involved in this chain of command?

Well said. Its okay saying each to their own, but its not middle class recreational users who's lives get destroyed by drug use is it?
offtothebeach · 14/12/2021 21:28

Nope.

Pinkyxx · 14/12/2021 21:29

Yes I would have reported it. Drug test is a condition of employment offer where I work - if you fail the test we rescind the offer. If you fail a drugs test when employed, it's immediate dismissal.

I'm a single parent who works 75+ hours a week. I don't do drugs, never have, never will. Plenty of us work hard, for long hours. It's no excuse. Drugs destroy lives.

It's no wonder schools are rife with drugs, if the teachers are taking them..

DismantledKing · 14/12/2021 21:35

Exactly. There needs to be consequences for this level of exploitation.

SpanielsAreMyLife · 14/12/2021 21:36

Yes I would have.

100% agree. The drugs trade harms vulnerable children and teachers, along with social workers, are among the last who should be taking them.
Scautish · 14/12/2021 21:36

Yes. I don’t understand the acceptance of the use of a drug which causes utter misery in many poor countries. Such users are indeed utter cunts, the cause of the atrocities as set out from excerpt below and I hope karma gets them.

A quote from linked article:

Decapitations and burning people alive are just the start. Chainsaws, belt sanders, acid—these things are used very creatively by cartel torturers. They disembowel bloggers and sew faces to soccer balls. Children are forced to work as assassins, people are forced to rape strangers at gunpoint, and lines of victims are killed one at a time with a single hammer. Many of those people disappear into unmarked graves. If their bodies are ever found, they are described in the media with antiseptic words like “mutilated.”

No.

JaninaDuszejko · 14/12/2021 21:42

Lol at “obviously”, I’m not a teacher so had no idea there was an OH or substance abuse policy. Obviously.

I'm not a teacher but I work in an industry where a positive drugs test would result in immediate dismissal. I'm quite shocked how many people think this is acceptable at a works event.

I work in the pharma industry. So I'm concerned about the health of my colleague, my own job (we would be shut down if it was thought we employed people with a drug problem), and patient safety (do you want your medicines made someone high on cocaine? Thought not).
