Side dishes to go with gammon

I’m cooking gammon (for the first time!) at the weekend for a family dinner, but I can’t decide on the best side dishes to serve with it.

I’m looking for inspiration, please

Cauliflower cheese is yum

Personally I’d like creamy mash (maybe with whole grain mustard stirred through?) or something like potato salad as a cold contrast.

Green beans, broccoli - something slightly crunchy.

Buttery leeks and new potatoes

Buttery mash, Cumberland sauce, red cabbage, green beans. That would be my choice!

I like doing a lovely creamy cheese sauce with leeks in with gammon

Grilled tomato, peas

Mash and sweetcorn. Something magical about the saltiness of the gammon and the sweetness of the corn. Yum.

Parsley sauce, new potatoes, peas and buttered leeks

I would go for spiced red cabbage and good mash.

Definitely red cabbage and then something a bit creamy and/or cheesy and peas

Yes this. I make mine using onion powder and a little mustard with lots of cheese sauce. The sauce works well with gammon.

I boil the gammon for half and roast for the last half. Whist it's roasting I put tinned butter beans in the cooking liquid and simmer until tender. This makes a lovely side for gammon.

Savoy cabbage fried with garlic and soy sauce. Divine.

We usually have stewed red cabbage, carrot and sweed mash, toasted baby potatoes and then I serve it up in a giant Yorkshire pudding.
Any excuse for a Yorkshire pudding in our house mind.

Macho peas

@Watto1 yes! With chips, egg and beans or chips, pineapple and peas if you're feeling exotic.

Cauliflower cheese and baked potato.

Lyonnaise or Dauphinoise potatoes and peas

Cumberland sauce

Dauphoise potatoes and salad

Creamy mash potatoes, salad, coleslaw and pickles !
