redwing A sensible wish Smile

I know you are waiting with baited breath (esp @Nydj and @Silkieschickens): 80% of DH's papers are sorted, 3 tables, 1 bench, 1 sofa and a few m² of floor have been freed. Several empty jam jars (clean) can look forward to be filled with jam in the not to distant future. One sofa is still full of "tax stuff" and a tiny heap of papers are for me to file and will be gone in half an hour. All because he hates proofreading more than filing Grin

HelenaJustina · 31/01/2022 18:04

prok what a win! Procrastinating can be productive!

Silkierabbit · 31/01/2022 18:24

Well done Prok.

Welcome, @RedWingBoots, and thanks for sharing your cycling news. Your daughter must be very clever to have thought of the lock.

Prok, that's a huge win!

DS's tax paperwork arrived over the weekend, so I put everything into the tax software. processed his federal and state tax returns for him, and filed them. He'll be getting a nice bit of money back in a few weeks. It was his first ever tax filing, so it's a bit of a milestone. He earned the money last spring doing his internship.

I'm now going to do another nice thing for him and make him a pan of my Death by Chocolate brownies to send him as part of a care package. A few may remain here for DH and I. Smile

DH is having his piano lesson.

DH messaged the neighbours that made the marmalade and told them we loved it and have run out Hmm so our lovely neighbour is making more. Blush It was very popular here.

Nydj · 31/01/2022 19:34

That’s amazing progress, Prok - I just tent to sit on the sofa and scroll through twitter when I am procrastinating.

Miss, well done to you for getting a tax rebate for your DS and making a batch of your famous brownies. My Ds is also looking forward to some brownies with your recipe as soon as we get round to making them.

Your neighbours sound lovely, Silkies

Silkierabbit · 31/01/2022 22:31

The silkie and DS are fast asleep. Rabbit is on the back on the sofa watching over DS and the silkie like a very protective father.

Silkierabbit · 01/02/2022 08:22

DD has been for a run then off to school. Contacted education lawyers as getting nowhere with la.

Rabbit is still watching over his flock, guarding the silkie. He appeared confused but fascinated at first but now seems to have decided she is his daughter and needs protecting. Silkie seems happy with this as well. May introduce them more at weekend though dont want to rock the peace and calm. I hope rabbit got some sleep at some point.

DH has opened the new ironing board, it cost more than my first car (this says as much about my first car as the providence of the ironing board) so I was expecting great things - disappointed to discover that you still have to actually iron yourself Hmm

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/02/2022 21:35

Feeling sorry for myself I have a cold. Not Covid

Silkierabbit · 01/02/2022 23:43

Hope you feel better soon Lemons.

Hope you can manage to persuade your dh to do some ironing Champagne, appoint him head of iron management.

Silkierabbit · 01/02/2022 23:44

Dd got an offer from Kings Maths School.

Champagneforeveryone · 02/02/2022 00:51

Oh wow silkies you must be so proud, especially amongst everything else that's going on!

What does that actually mean for her though at this point? From what I recall she's only GCSE age?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/02/2022 05:35

yay for your DD!Flowers

HelenaJustina · 02/02/2022 06:44

That’s amazing silkie you must be so proud of her! What a testament to her strength and resilience to achieve that, when you have so much else going in as a family.

Silkierabbit · 02/02/2022 09:25

Thanks very much. She is taking gcses this summer and its a 6th form college, take 70 a year, which is a state one part run by Kings College London and sponsored by some banks, its very small class sizes like 9 to 1 and very academic, highest % of any state sixth form go to Oxford or Cambridge, around 25%. So its an excellent place for her but the issue is we live nowhere near it. The maths school in Exeter does boarding but is only for SW kids and this one doesnt. She knows another girl from here from online with similar issue but no obvious solution. There is a very academic, very large 6th form here, which maybe where both end up though have a few months to see if can find a solution.

Champagneforeveryone · 02/02/2022 11:03

I have the house to myself for a few hours, however the gas has run out which will necessitate me lugging the cylinders around the house and into position so that we can put the heating back on.

At least it'll keep me warm though

Nydj · 02/02/2022 11:41

Yes, I expect lugging cylinders around will mean that you won’t need to use them to get any heat, Champagne

Congratulations to your DD, Silkies even if she doesn’t go, it will be a huge boost to her self esteem which is always good at that age.

I am going to try and make meringue for a pavlova for my sister. She is about to hit a mi,esto e birthday and isn’t a fan of cakes. Please wish me luck and send positive vibes as I have never made a meringue in my life!

Nydj · 02/02/2022 11:42

Milestone - I hope the meringue is better than my typing

Champagneforeveryone · 02/02/2022 12:15

Good luck with the meringue nydj, I'm not a great cake eater but I'm rather partial to a meringue Smile

Unfortunately the spanner is MiA, so while I've managed to move the cylinders I remain heating free until DH returns.

Apparently he has absolutely not moved the spanner and there's no way it's absence can be attributed to him. For added entertainment he's just buggered off up the motorway to a job 150 miles away Hmm

MissConductUS · 02/02/2022 14:14

Congratulations Silkie on your DD's acceptance to the program. I hope you can solve the housing challenge so that she can attend.

Good luck with your meringue Nydj. I must confess that I have never made one.

Champagne, we have a 500-gallon gas tank in the front yard, so moving it is out of the question. It looks like a small UFO. I am glad it is so large because the dreaded "wintery mix" is in the forecast for Friday.

DC3 has tested positive for COVID (and is now symptomatic) only two months since they last had it. Seems unfair when two of the DC haven’t even had it once!

Champagneforeveryone · 02/02/2022 18:35

That's bad luck helena, fingers crossed everyone else remains lurgy free.

DH is home with a spanner, not the spanner but a spanner nonetheless. We will be warm in minutes Smile

Spitspotsput · 02/02/2022 18:43

I have found some liqueurs that didn’t need to be a xmas present. I am really enjoying them.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/02/2022 19:07

DD's zoom lecture was interrupted today by the prof struggeling to contain his litter of rescue kittens Grin.
I once ate a lovely rhubarb-gooseberry cake with a meringue cover.

I have decided to try and grow my hair (I have notived that women of my age tend to have the same shortish hairdo) and perhaps get it lightly permed.
