@Silkieschickens Grin There a currently papers on the fully functioning shredder.

DH just changed the bag the plastic recycling goes into for one he likes less. He wanted me to do it but I told him to "go write a book" and then I mentioned the papers, the taxes of 2020 and the TV licence people. The he called me a "bisgurrn" Grin

MissConductUS · 08/01/2022 17:23

Math, I hope your son feels better soon. Strep can make you feel really run down. The jab is a really good option for treating it.

Champagne, congratulations on your offer being accepted. Since there's no parking I'm sure that we can look forward to many future posts about your parking travails, hopefully with the obligatory diagram.

It was too cold (about -7C) and icy out to go walking this morning, so I stayed in. rode the stationary bike, and lifted some weights. Sorry that my posting has been spotty. It's been busy with the weather, work and I've also gotten pulled into one of the alcohol support threads where I'm trying to help some people get through the first part of quitting drinking.

Prok about once every 6 months DH will announce he has done some tidying and moved his things and the dining room now looks better. You go down and indeed the dining room looks better but then you go into the living room and discover he has just thrown it all over the floors in there and so its just a different room that looks trashed. For some reason he seems to think he should be congratulated on this and will normally point out I said it would be good if the dining room was clear.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/01/2022 18:59

Silkie Yes, that's how it is! Smile
You should see his (DH's) office. Luckily I do not need to go in there, though it is the best room of the flat: a balcony, morning sun, straight walls without unneccessary nooks and the feeler for the heating system is in there. But all surfaces (3 desks, 2 sidetables, 2 sets of supply shelves, the space in front of the books on 11 sets of book shelves are all coverd in some kind of paper.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/01/2022 19:02

Hope your DS is better Math.

Miss I loved the snow pictures further up thread.

Went to see DM today. Felt so bad knowing about DB and DM didn’t.

We are considering going to France in summer but am nervous coz of covid .

Silkieschickens · 08/01/2022 21:07

Prok I discovered a few weeks back that DHs piles of random junk also extend to the garden, the part just hidden from view. When he told me before he was putting things out I always assumed it was going to the bin. But the other week said I was going to the garden and he told me not a good idea. I was Hmm why not and said I wanted to see the silkies. Went out with DH and saw several piles of things which need to be thrown out. Said DH what is that? DH its rubbish that is awaiting categorisation Hmm. You said you want rubbish out of the house so I took it out of the house. I pointed out that did not mean just put it in piles in the garden.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/01/2022 21:19

Silkie They are soulmates Grin

Apparently the flat has lost a box of 6cm A4 lever file folders (Aktenordner).

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/01/2022 21:40

In the spirit of boring news I cooked duck breast in the air fryer tonight. I started it off in the frying pan and almost set the kitchen alight as one drop of water went into the pan and flames shot up.

The duck cooked very well.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/01/2022 00:52

lemons, I do not feel that duck breasts could ever be considered boring Wink

HelenaJustina · 09/01/2022 08:09

lemons flames aren’t boring either!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/01/2022 11:09

That's the way my DB found out about "Stichflammen" He burned the kitchen curtains in half by putting a drop of water into a tealight. Grin

In the thread spirit of tidying/moving, I feel I should report that DH and I spent part of yesterday trying to move the sofa that was on our landing into the bedroom, so that I could move a bookcase from my office onto the landing.

Our (old, somewhat eccentric) house has a landing the size of a decent room and I was going to put the bookcase behind the sofa, but DH came up with the radical idea to move the sofa entirely. Comedy ensued as we tried to manoeuvre it through the bedroom doorway, and eventually the door had to come off its hinges.

However it's all done now, and looks good.

We are still vaguely thinking of moving (congrats to Champagne), hence the nervous flurries of house reorganisation.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/01/2022 16:08

Hilde Well done for sofa moving.

To keep up with your adventorous spirit: I counted 1500 puzzle pieces to see if the jigsaw was OK and could be given away. You all will be happy to know that it is indeed complete!

MissConductUS · 09/01/2022 16:33

It's freezing rain here, so didn't go to church or walk outside.

I've taken the ornaments off of the Christmas tree and DH has taken it apart and put it up in the attic, where it will stay for the next 49 weeks or so.

Lemons. I've had duck a l'Orange a few times at a restaurant, but never tried making it at home. I don't recall seeing it in the supermarket either, so I guess it's not common here.

Hilda, well done on the furniture rearranging. We normally have to take our front door off the hinges when we have a new appliance delivered. The blokes doing the delivery do it, then put it back on.

I'm trying to identify a declutter project for the day.

I’ve emptied the cupboard under the stairs, vacuumed and then put things back again. Not all the things, 3 bin bags of shoes and bags for the collection bins were generated, so that’s good. I need a stiff drink but it’s a school night I’ve been putting off doing that job since about October.

What if you miscounted? 🤔
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/01/2022 17:31

sweet I did it twice in batches with strokes per 10 on a piece of paper. I did my very best Grin
DH suggested I do it, but it is lions in a savannah setting, so basically beige on beige. So no!

mathanxiety · 09/01/2022 19:19

DS thanks you all for your good wishes. Penicillin truly is a wonder drug.

I have four chores to take care of today - clean up the kitchen, do laundry, clean the bath and surrounding tiles, and take down the Christmas tree. I fear I'll have to use the garden shears and snip it apart like I did last year. Otherwise we'll spend weeks fishing pine needles out of the printer, the dishwasher, and the freezer, which are all en route to the back door, not to mention everyone's snow boots.

Naturally, I am working up the enthusiasm for all of that.

What I really want to do is bundle up and head out for a walk, but the alley is only fit for skating and careful driving so I can't get out to the street on foot.

Champagne great news.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/01/2022 19:20

We went to IKEA en famille to scope out beds and sofas as we have neither. We left having spent a grand total of £0 which must be a miracle of fairly grand proportions.

We have huge lists, lots of photos and we did splash out on a hotdog so all in all a good day Smile

Silkieschickens · 09/01/2022 19:20

DD has returned from her day out and DH said DD can you move your things from the tumble drier. DD replied I did not put anything in the tumble drier, I put things in the washing machine that said do not tumble dry, did you tumble dry them DH? DH oh yes all of them. DD nooo they are new clothes that will now be wrecked. DH goes to check drier, says I forgot to turn it on, shouts will just turn it on now DD. DD rushes and intercepts clothes. DH is half deaf but always insists he hears.

Silkiecat has continued protesting at DH any time he speaks to me as she is jealous. As soon as she hears a word of our conversation she starts a what about me howl, you know I have told you I am the only female you can talk to.

HelenaJustina · 09/01/2022 19:58

@Champagneforeveryone that is indeed a miracle! Must be a Sunday…

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/01/2022 22:30

@MissConductUS this is orange sauce recipe I use I’m sure it’s not strictly duck L’orange but it’s easy and flavoursome.

www.gressinghamduck.co.uk/recipes/orange-sauce/

@Silkieschickens good job he forgot to turn on tumble drier. Maybe you and your DH need to learn morse code so as not to annoy silkiecat with actual talking.

I have learnt today that the complainant from work has been dropped but I’m very aggrieved by it all.

@Champagneforeveryone wow not a penny am impressed.

Silkieschickens · 09/01/2022 23:41

Glad complaint from work has been dropped Lemons

I mentioned to DD it was DSs parents evening on Thursday night and she said Mr X be as nasty as you can to him as he hurt my brother, I know it will hard for you to be nasty but try your hardest to be as nasty as possible. Smile Protective big sister.

Washed the fleece duvet cover. Have 2nd video call for will tomorrow. Went through Boden order and am keeping 3 out of 5 and returning 2 cashmere cardigans, I normally never return but these 2 are absolutely massive and about 1.5 times me. The others are big but two are knitted and at some point DH will put them in the tumble drier, if he wants to put his washing on anything in the machine gets shoved in tumble drier.

I have realised putting on a dress instead of a fleece onesie that I am infact lopsided still unless in a fleece onesie, wasn't given anything by hospital but someone told me about a charity which sends out knitted ones so they will send me a swimming one and a normal one.

Morose pidgeon and mate have introduced us to - I assume - their offspring. 2 smaller, sleeker and shinier versions of themselves.
