Morose pidg-lets!

MissConductUS · 10/01/2022 19:15

Lemons, that orange sauce recipe looks great. It took me a minute to figure out that corn flour is what we call corn starch. I use it as a thickener when making Mongolian Beef.

Silkie, my DD is very particular about how her laundry gets done and washes everything in cold water. No one else is allowed to touch it or move it out of the washing machine to the tumble dryer.

Prok, I'd assume that they are requesting some birdseed for the kids. Now that the ground is snow covered our feeder has been mobbed.

Yes Miss NDN and I, we have doubled rations. We do not have small birds this side of the building (to many magpies, pidgeons and crows).
It is raining again.

I am watching the new numberphile video.

There is no 'd' in pigeon. I new the word looked odd and I could not figure out why.

IWanderedLonely · 10/01/2022 20:26

I have spent a large part of this afternoon playing My Little Pony - with Spiderman as the vet.
I was with my granddaughter at the time.

DoctorTwo · 10/01/2022 21:00

It sounds like you had the best day IWandered.

Champagneforeveryone · 10/01/2022 21:00

DS is playing a Pitbull song on the guitar - I am thrilled we have no near neighbours Grin

Silkieschickens · 11/01/2022 00:26

Congratulations on your grandpigeons Prok

I had my will call and they will send a draft over. Have to name someone to have the kids if we both die before eldest turns 18, highly unlikely given she is 16 now.

Find out my surgery results and next version of treatment plan tomorrow. I will wear my pink velvet dress as its comforting material. DH made home made potato and veg soup with some lovely bread and butter. And then I had my second lot of quality street for the day. Then I cleaned my teeth well as I have the dentist for 1.5 hours on Saturday.

DD has an interview time and date for Kings Maths School, it will be online by video call which she is not impressed about as she said she needs a new laptop Hmm and said the wifi is not good enough in her room. I suggested the dining room and she said no other people will eavesdrop. I don't think they will but Silkiecat may howl and show her bottom. Blush

mathanxiety · 11/01/2022 05:10

Fingers crossed for you Silkies. And I hope your DD aces her interview.

DD3 bought a coat on Poshmark and then heard nothing, nada, zilch about it for three days. Finally, she messaged the seller, and has now heard that the coat is in the Newark, NJ distribution center. When I close my eyes I have a not-very-inspiring vision of the Newark distribution center, and in fact the entire Newark metropolitan area - but apparently the coat will be here on Thursday. I encouraged her to buy it as she has been talking on and off for a long time about having a pastel-coloured tailored coat, preferably in pink. I couldn't talk her into buying a nice charcoal or black one, but I did successfully suggest, very tactfully of course, that she shouldn't confine her search to size Small.

I nearly came a cropper on ice today when I attempted to exit my car. Thankfully we are going all the way back up to the low 30s F tomorrow.

mathanxiety · 11/01/2022 05:11

Hope your DD is doing ok in the deep freeze, ZZ

Silkieschickens · 11/01/2022 13:49

Thanks Maths Just back and not great news. It has spread to lymph nodes - 1 out of 3 of those tested and now need more surgery to see how many others its in, 4 to 6 months of chemo which cannot be postponed to allow us to go on holiday in summer if I agree to it then radio then hormone tablets. 2 tumours taken out lobular invasive, grade 2 stage 3 as in skin, her2 neg, er pos. DH was really grumpy afterwards. They gave me survival rates but said they will go down quite a bit with no of lymph nodes involved after second surgery if more. Was not allowed DH in.

MissConductUS · 11/01/2022 14:06

I'm so sorry to hear about the spread Silkie. The chemo will be hard but it's really the only option at this point. Once you finish chemo the radiation therapy should be easier to tolerate.

Chemotherapy has gotten a lot better in the last 5-10 years.

Have they done genetic testing on the cancer?

OP posts:
Silkieschickens · 11/01/2022 14:58

No genetic testing and the chemo thing has just been done on NHS predict model which is based on all types, early stage which mine is not. Some people get it sent to the US but you have to pay £2,500 for that and that also appears to be based on early stage and they have not mentioned it either but I was meeting surgeon. She said their model shows chemo adds 6% and they do from 5% due to risk of adverse effects but that is with size which they know and 1 node involved and my results would worsen a lot with multiple nodes. I said I didn't want to do it but I don't think you get much choice - well either no treatment or all treatment. But the surgery is next and I want that and chemo would be after that. But no date for surgery and been given to the really unhelpful nurse to make the appointment and she is always like its fine to wait. There have been some research papers showing lobular has same success rate for my type with hormone therapy as chemo and its IDC that benefits from chemo. My other surgeon was very sceptical about chemo though its being dependent on A&E at the moment that scares me if anything goes wrong. There isn't a private option for that either. But they did not sound like even though you have to sign you will agree they will take no as an answer.

I will chase them for a surgery date and do the surgery and try and find information out for the chemo. But I always get very bad effects from meds and you have to do everything alone and I do not feel safe with staffing levels and covid levels or strong enough mentally to do it. Plus its my daughters gcses and she needs me everyday and my son needs to go on holiday, its the only time he isn't mute and does things. The staffing levels will get worse as well if they sack the staff who don't have 3 covid vaccines. Though will see how many lymph nodes in and just really hope not a big delay before surgery.

Silkieschickens · 11/01/2022 14:58

They have told me its the very strong chemo where all my hair will fall out after first session.

HelenaJustina · 11/01/2022 15:16

Oh silkie so sorry it has been such a rough day with news which must be so difficult to process. Finding all of this out alone and then having to remember and make sense of it must be exhausting. Flowers

Champagneforeveryone · 11/01/2022 16:37

silkies Flowers

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/01/2022 17:30

Silkie Flowers It is shit. But chemo has improved as Miss said. And your DC - especially your DD - seem to be very capable in their own ways.

DoctorTwo · 11/01/2022 18:25

So sorry Silkies, you have been dealt a really shitty hand. I think your DD would rather have you around longer than every day while she's doing her GCSEs. It's a shame you have to be treated without support, but you can do this.

IWanderedLonely · 11/01/2022 19:07

Silkies I'm sorry it wasn't better news. Flowers.

Nydj · 11/01/2022 20:39

Oh Silkies, I’m so sorry it wasn’t better news xx

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/01/2022 22:01

💐 silkies hope you’re holding up as best you can.

HildaTablet · 11/01/2022 22:30

Sending you a big hug Silkie

mathanxiety · 12/01/2022 06:18

Oh Silkies, sending you a hand hold.

It has to be really hard to take it all in, but try to put yourself first and trust that the family will be ok.

Champagneforeveryone · 12/01/2022 13:22

You'll all be terribly concerned to hear that DH has a cold is very ill. There's much groaning and deep sighing from the bedroom.

There was muttering yesterday about being breathless, which had absolutely zero to do with the fact that the heating was cranked up to approximately the temperature of the earths core Hmm

My exceptionally limited patience is further tested by the fact we will neither take any tablets or a LFT as it would involve getting out of bed and donning The Dressing Gown of Doom.

MissConductUS · 12/01/2022 13:54

Champagne, it sounds like he has manflu. The weakest common cold virus can bloom into virulent manflu when it infects certain men. Continuous moaning and sighing are common symptoms. The good news is that it is rarely fatal, just very annoying to everyone else.

In other husbandly news, my DH was overly optimistic that we would receive the new registration sticker for the car DS is taking back to uni. He's had an email from the DMV that they are delayed that includes a PDF of a temporary certificate that can be put on the dashboard. I think we'll be okay as the current sticker is good until 11/3, and the temporary extension certificate until 2/4. DS will be home for spring break sometime in March, so we will sort it then.

I had my appointment with the sports medicine doctor Monday night. He was unexpectedly attractive and charming. He thinks my sciatica is probably caused by some arthritis in my lower spine. I'm going to get an x-ray taken of the area on Friday. If it is arthritis there is really not much to be done. He did give me a cortisone injection in the lower back that has helped somewhat.

The cold weather continues. It was -8C this morning and there's more snow in the forecast for Monday.
