Hope the painkillers hit the spot, Silkies.

We have howling winds tonight and very cold weather expected for the next three days. We're having our postponed New Year's Day dinner on Wednesday. DS couldn't make it on New Year' s Day because he thought he had covid, but he had a negative PCR test so we're back on track. I've promised the family a lemon meringue pie.

Lemonsandlemonade · 05/01/2022 05:46

Hope your pain eases Silkie. Toast at 4:30 fair play!

DH is on thin ice he got up to feed DS at 4:30 told me to go back to sleep which I failed at. His alarm went off at 5:15 just as I was drifting off but after much kicking ( lightly by me) he has just left the bed at 5:40.

I have no issue with his alarm but get up!!

HelenaJustina · 05/01/2022 10:11

I had the same problem this morning Lemon, my alarm went at 5.55am and I quietly got up, turned it off and got on. DH should follow me at about 6.30 to take over breakfast duties so that I can shower and get ready. It was 6.50 before he left bed. He is going to have to get back into the term time swing a bit quicker!

I hope you're feeling better now Silkie.

Freezing rain here this morning. Lots of people out either with covid or because of exposure to it.

I get up first, do my morning routine, then get DH up. We usually have a chat about the day before he gets out of bed, but he's good about getting up.

OP posts:
Champagneforeveryone · 05/01/2022 17:26

DH is good at getting up but extremely poor at getting on, it can take an hour before he makes it downstairs

Sunny but cold here today, not that it matters too much to me as have been inside at work all day.

miss we used bottled propane as we have no mains gas. In the UK this is fairly unusual unless you live very rurally. There's really no difference except the stove top is a bit fierce, and you actually know how much you're spending on gas as you pay up front. I'm still quite new to it hence the tardy re-ordering Confused

Silkieschickens · 05/01/2022 19:14

Thanks all. Now just have pain in arm and where operated, its not too bad, and suspect its exercising a bit too enthusiastically that did it though could be fluid build up. I go back on 14th and will try resting that arm and see if it improves.

DH is terrible with alarms, he is also half deaf and so does not hear his alarm but always puts in on for 10 minutes more about 6 times before he gets out of bed and half the time he does not hear it at all and it also wakes Silkiecat who thinks DH is awake and should be on duty so it becomes accompanied by howling for DH.

DS had first day back at school, left early but then returned and shut himself in a room and would not speak to anyone. But managed to lure him out with a big chocolate cake and now he is much happier and back with his rabbit. Just about to get an indian meal.

MissConductUS · 05/01/2022 20:13

Champagne, in our last house we had mains gas, but not in this one. I think that propane has worked out to be cheaper as the gas utility added on all sorts of extra charges for delivery. Our propane company gives us a sizable discount if we pay for a year's supply ahead of time, so that's what we do. Every time we get a delivery, which they schedule automatically, it just decreases the amount in our prepurchase bank.

I've booked an appointment to see a sports medicine specialist for next Monday. My orthopedist thinks I have sciatica and has referred me.

Mixed day.

Lovely swim with DS this morning. We had the local pool to ourselves all for the grand price of £3

DB has phoned he is having biopsy Monday. Could well be cancer. DB quite upset on phone. Worst part is DM being kept in dark ATM until we know for sure .

First day with children in work tomorrow so the show has to go on.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/01/2022 21:34

Lemon Best wishes to your DB.

Rainy here.
I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark.
The owl is dissappointed, because I only do the bare minimum.
I was extravagant and bought a set of FFP2 masks in dark green.

Oh, and the marten is back in the space between our ceiling and the roof.

mathanxiety · 06/01/2022 04:48

Hope it's good news for your DB, Lemons. I can understand not wanting to worry your DM unnecessarily.

I'm hoping to put up the bird feeder I got for Christmas on Friday or Saturday when our weather improves. We were fourteen below freezing today with strong wind.

There's only a little lemon meringue pie left.

HelenaJustina · 06/01/2022 09:44

Some of our SEN children are making bird feeders today, scooped out oranges packed with lard and seeds. It’s -3 so am sure the birds will appreciate them.
I’m on my second coffee of the day and taking a moment to look out of the window at the beautiful frosty field.

Champagneforeveryone · 06/01/2022 12:52

It is 7 degrees today and (obviously) raining.

The parish magazine said the bins were being collected on Friday 6th. Luckily DH is a suspicious sort and put them out anyway and they've been emptied. Friday is the 7th so DH suspects some sort of skullduggery from the parish council.

Silkieschickens · 06/01/2022 13:35

Our bins said they were being emptied on 6th. Said to DH last night and he said will put them out in morning. Woke up late this morning, said to DH did you put bin out. Reply came no (polite edited version as he was annoyed he forgot) and 9am and normally collected around 7am. I said well maybe put out anyway as not a normal collection and he did and got collected around 11am, phew as it was black big bin (non recyclable) and small food bin. We are also on reduced bin collections here as so many staff are off with covid though thankfully its the green one (garden) which has been indefinitely cancelled though the weather isn't really gardening weather.

DD had a lateral flow test at school today and just got the negative in.

Just had my breast biopsy results brought forward to 11th January from 14th which are results of surgery on 17th December. Good been brought forward a bit especially as now have pain in that arm / breast - think its moving too much but good to get it properly checked. As long as I don't put weight on it its fine but its my right arm and one I use instinctively. Plus I am on right side of bed so everything is on the right and if I twist causes pain as well.

Hope your DB gets all clear Lemons horrible waiting but completely understand him keeping it quiet, its just adds to stress telling some people if they act stressed and you get a few who clearly just want gossip. One of my friends was like that told her either stage 3 or stage 4 and she replied sounds like going well, stay strong (ie don't ask me for help), be in touch in 2 weeks. Xmas Hmm Then when surgery brought forward to that week I didn't bother to tell her and got an e-mail why didn't you tell me, its just as I have quite a few people who ask for updates and can't be bothered updating those who just want gossip. Its an excellent test of who is a good friend (though friend is nice just very anxious and maybe can't cope) and whether you married well, luckily I chose DH very well, well at least for cancer, obviously not up to MN relationship board standards but not sure any man in world history has passed those. Xmas Grin

HelenaJustina · 06/01/2022 13:44

Nollaig an mBan to you all!

DH gave me flowers and cake this morning. I’ll leave you to google why…

MissConductUS · 06/01/2022 15:18

Happy Little Christmas, Helena. I think it's also the feast of the epiphany.

Champagne, well done to your DH. Our town does an annual calendar that shows all of the collection dates for the year, including the changes due to holidays and the monthly bulk pick-up dates. We download it from the town website, print it out and tape it to the side of one of the kitchen cabinets for easy reference.

Silkie. great news that your biopsy has been moved up. My DH would probably be rejected on the MN relationship board simply for being an American, so I don't discuss him there.

HelenaJustina · 06/01/2022 17:24

It is indeed also the Feast of the Epiphany. Am looking forward to attending a beautiful sung Mass this evening. Our organist used to be a very professional choir master and still has some singers who train with him. They come to sing some special Masses and it is such a treat.

Nydj · 06/01/2022 17:28

DH forgot about the bins which will be emptied by the council tomorrow. He had taken out some olives for us to snack on while waiting for dinner before I reminded him about the bins. I offered to do upstairs bins while he did downstairs to get the job done quickly but he said no, he would do them all. He is strangely positive about doing the bins. I am drinking coconut water.

caringcarer · 06/01/2022 17:32

I'm very happy today
Dear foster son who has learning disabilities sat his GCSE in Maths and Science (Physics) before Xmas and he came home today telling me he scored level 3 on Maths and level 3+ on Physics. If he keeps working hard and doing practice papers he could teach level 4 by summer exams. Pretty amazing as he was in lowest 4 percent of population when he came to us at 5. I am so proud of him.

Lemonsandlemonade · 06/01/2022 18:47

@caringcarer that is astounding. Well done. Am so pleased for you and your foster son. He must have worked hard.

Lemonsandlemonade · 06/01/2022 18:48

Thanks for all the kind messages re DB I appreciate it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/01/2022 19:02

Caringcarer That is so good to hear and well done him (and you).

Yesterday it was cool and rainy, so, not quite awake yet, I gabbed a handful of bird seed to put out on the terrasse this morning. I went out in bathrobe and slippers - into -3°C.

DH is still dealing with the papers: the sofa is free, the other smaller sofa is now full + half of the dining table and he hasn't touched the bench yet.

IWanderedLonely · 06/01/2022 20:33

It snowed here today, turned to rain by teatime & all gone now.
I bought a box of reduced posh Christmas nuts from Morrisons - I'm supposed to be on a diet. I really am my own worst enemyConfused

Champagneforeveryone · 07/01/2022 02:22

Congratulations caregivers DS. I have a little experience of the work of foster caters and all I can say is I'm in awe of what you do Flowers

Firstly there was a house which we wanted desperately but didn't get.
Then a couple we were ambivalent about.
Then one we loved.
Now there's three extremely strong contenders and another that we originally fell in love with (but isn't THE one) is back on the market. I really want someone to come and gently stroke my hair and make the decision for me Grin
and do all the admin

Silkieschickens · 07/01/2022 02:47

A rather cryptic message has been posted by the hospital under test results about the sentinel node biopsy. Not sure if it just means test was done, test was positive or test was negative. It is dated the day before I had surgery though the dates appear not especially relevant looking at past ones they are often date of procedure not results date.

Just says for right breast mx +slnb, this bit I understand its mastectomy and sentinal node biopsy

Sentinel node localisation- right breast - not sure whether this just means test done or means cancer found.

Tracer was administrated according to protocol. No images were acquired. - This I understand as I had a tracer injection.

Normally I get results after seen them but strange they would just say had a test under test results but was expecting more detailed results like positive or negative and number of nodes involved, will find out on Tuesday.

well done Caring

Champagne The MN property board loves that sort of dilemma and its normally more sensible than the relationships board. Though would name change first incase you buy one of them.

mathanxiety · 07/01/2022 06:57

How wonderful for your foster DS, caring. He must feel great.

Champagne you need to post photos and particulars of each house on the Property board and ask for a vote. I hope you get the one you love.

IWandered, I bought the last box of Belgian chocolate truffles in Aldi today. When I say 'Belgian chocolate truffles' I mean fat bombs. They are not good for me at all but that won't put me off them, sadly. I also bought a lovely, never lit Yankee candle for $3.99 at the second hand place beside Aldi, where unwanted Christmas gifts are now beginning to appear.

Hope your Nollaig na mBan was as restful and pleasant as it could possibly be, Helena.

I hope your team will have the results for you on Tuesday, Silkies, and I hope it's good news.

We're having really cold temps overnight here - 25 below zero F. There were warnings about frostbite in minutes outdoors.
