Whining, not Shining!

Lemonsandlemonade · 30/12/2021 06:11

Glad you’re feeling better @Deathraystare hope your Covid test comes back ok.

DS is showing signs of understanding object permanency now and looks for a toy when it disappears. He is starting to cry when I leave him. He has worked it also how to get round the bed in the living room (by the door) and I found him in the hallway yesterday. I had left him in living room whilst I had a wee.

All this talk of exercise has motivated me to get on!

Champagneforeveryone · 30/12/2021 07:41

Because I'm such an adult I've managed to get locked out of my own house by forgetting my key.

I've been sat in the car for 40 minutes so far as I was hoping somebody would wake up naturally and come to my aid. My plaintive texts have gone unanswered and I'm about to crack and phone someone to get out of bed and let me in.

Just need to decide who has annoyed me the most recently Wink

Champagne who did you pick on?!

Am off for a blowy short run before our family expedition to Legoland.

Champagneforeveryone · 30/12/2021 08:54

DH was the lucky recipient of my early morning phone call. DS was at a party last night and has not graced us with his presence yet, so I was unlikely to get much response from that quarter Wink

Hope you enjoy Legoland, it's extremely breezy and foggy here so I feel for you if it's anything like that with you Flowers

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/12/2021 09:27

Temperatures are up to above +10°C.

Death Glad you are recovered.
Are people in the UK really allowed to do officially valid tests from home? Any LTF / PCR done at home here is used as an indicator only. Ordinary people are entitled to one official and free of charge test per week and you do not get to touch it. If you want to do more 'valid' tests you pay. I have managed to get a box of 5 LTFs for emergency use at home after 14 days of waiting, but they do not entitle DH to go to the barber's (2G only).

Silkieschickens · 30/12/2021 09:39

Prok I did offer to save my German friend but I think he was quite embarrassed at having a female be better than him at swimming. First he had told me to not swim across the lake as noone has ever done it Xmas Hmm though noone else was tbf but just water so I continued then he told me to stop saying it was a nudist beach on the other side but I could only see two people on the other side and fully dressed so I continued. Then I got I am drowning so I said do you need rescuing and he said no but I need to get back to the beach. I did go on to swim across the lake.

Glad you were not too ill Death I have the dentist today, new dentist private, as cannot get NHS one anywhere here, I can get on a list for an nhs dentist rated 1 out 5, in about 3 years time an hour away. I did that just to make a point but no chance will get to use it. At least DH and kids are still on NHS list so they have made next appointments for June and then August 2022, earliest they had and a near 2 year gap. I am more scared of dentist than I was my surgery, think its as its new. They did say to go back to hospital to be drained again this week but not sure if I need it, my feet are nearly back to normal with the exercises, my arm is fine, its just where they operated is swollen but its not too bad.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/12/2021 10:53

Xmas Grin So you are a 'first crosser' - Great!!!

I wonder - if Silkiecat gets to be carried in a pocket or sling, so gets to be permanently attached to your DH: will he be allowed to go upstairs?

I am sorting out paperwork (sending encouraging vibes to DH).

Silkieschickens · 30/12/2021 14:04

That is what we fear Prok, Silkiecat will see she has won and increase
her demands, we have 17 year experience Xmas Grin

Argh too late for dentists, I need DH to drive me there and he was we are not running late, la-la-la and I am we are running late then we end up 20 mins late for 10 min appointment and they can't schedule it and I lose my deposit. DH is very tired though and think he did not want to drive there but is annoyed we missed it.

HelenaJustina · 30/12/2021 14:37

Oh Silkie that is annoying!

Legoland is not too busy Champagne grey but v mild. DC are delighted, they are about to go on their favourite roller coaster for the third time. We haven’t queued for longer than 20 minutes to do anything and usually it’s been 5 minutes or less. They got some spending money along with the ticket from MiL so going to hit the shop next.

Silkieschickens · 30/12/2021 15:12

Glad you are all enjoying Legoland Helena and hope you survive the shops.

Was not too bothered about missing dentist, feels nice to have first week since start of November without a hospital or medical trip out. Have had a bath and got back into normal bed. Also washed all our bedding and put back and there are 2 loads of it atm with all the fleece and another load done of koala onesie etc. So next time will at least be quicker and dentist now on Tuesday at 11am so not too delayed, was only £20 lost.

MissConductUS · 30/12/2021 15:39

That sounds delightful, Helena. A Legoland opened near us a couple of years ago, but we haven't been.

I'm going to the dentist on Monday to have a tooth extracted and have a bone graft done so that I can eventually have an implant. I've done this so many times it feels routine. Unfortunately, the missing tooth will be visible but I simply don't care at this point.

We are going to visit my brother and SIL this afternoon. DH has organized prawns with cocktail sauce, brie cheese, French bread, and cold sausages to bring. I don't think they're doing a full meal, but we should have plenty to eat. He's just informed me that they were exposed to someone last weekend who subsequently tested positive, but neither of them has symptoms and both tested negative this morning. Covid is everywhere now, but everyone I spend time with is vaccinated.

It is raining, I have finished sorting the paperwork.

Care home called - DMil has seen a priest for the sacrament and was responsive - so perhaps she'll perk up at least until DH can (is allowed to) visit her again.

HelenaJustina · 30/12/2021 18:25

Prok I’m so glad she has received the sacrament. It’ll be such a comfort to her in the coming days.

HelenaJustina · 30/12/2021 18:27

MiniLand was my favourite bit! It’s all made out of Lego. St Basil’s Cathedral was phenomenal!

Helena, that's the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and the Flatiron Building in your first picture. Amazing.

We are at DB's house, having nibbles. Smile

Lemonsandlemonade · 30/12/2021 22:26

@HelenaJustina lovely pictures sounds like a good day.

Hope your dentist trip goes ok on Monday @MissConductUS. I can’t stick the dentist.

Ds full on today he is going through separation anxiety.

Lemonsandlemonade · 30/12/2021 22:28

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I hope the sacrament brings peace and comfort to your MIL.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/12/2021 22:42

Lemon and Helena Thank you. I hope so, too. We were lucky that DH managed to reach him and the care home actually let him in. They are isolating because of norovirus.

The lego constructions look great, I think I would have enjoyed this.

Lemon separation anxiety is stressful but hopefully (in your case) shortlived

Acornsandleaves · 30/12/2021 23:18

That sounds good Helena, we loved Legoland but the queueing was a pain when we went in the summer holidays.

Hope your dentist appointment goes well MissConduct.

Prok I'm glad your DMIL was able to receive the sacrament, hopefully she will have taken some strength and comfort from it.

I've had a pleasant but completely unremarkable day today, I'm reaching the stage of the Christmas holiday where I have no idea what day it is!

mathanxiety · 31/12/2021 00:42

I'm getting my booster shot tomorrow, and we're supposed to have 4-8 inches of snow on Saturday, with temps of 18F on Sunday (-7.778C). We may go to Mass on Saturday evening as I don't fancy doing a lot of shoveling on Sunday morning. I'll have to shovel anyway and clear snow off my car before work on Monday, but I can do it on Sunday afternoon when the last flurries and lake effect plumes have passed. Fingers crossed they won't plough the alley until after I get my car out.

I had a lazy day today and we are officially finished with turkey leftovers.

MissConductUS · 31/12/2021 01:48

Good luck with your booster tomorrow, Math. We're just expecting rain on Saturday.

We had a nice time visiting my brother and SIL. We stopped on our way home and picked up a takeaway pizza for the first time in over a year. It was okay, but not as good as homemade.

Champagneforeveryone · 31/12/2021 01:52

Hoorah for the end of the turkey math, a true sign of the impending New Year!

I always fancy snow like you get but, in reality, the small amount we do get drives our infrastructure to its knees. 8 inches down here would likely trigger a state of emergency.

DS is at another party and has WhatsApped me with kisses on the end. I suspect either alcohol is involved, or he's working up to adding more friends staying over tomorrow night. Currently DH said 6 (because someone had to set some sort of boundary) and he's at 8. He figures if they keep moving about that DH won't notice which is a good shout Grin

MissConductUS · 31/12/2021 01:59

Champagne, what are you doing up at this hour? The North Americans have the night watch.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/12/2021 09:15

DH just discovered that it is New Year's Eve and all shops close at 14:00 (even without the plague) and New Year shops will be closed because it is a public holiday and the day after because it is Sunday. So he is out getting food in.
As all public festivities have been cancelled, we will all stay home and work as usual.
