Acorn Glad you all had a great time. Guinea pigs are suprisingly vocal (a friend had a couple). And IKEA is always a good idea - I love to see their ideas for small places.

DMil's care home called last night - she has caught a D+V bug, and is not improveing. DH assured them that it is to be pallative care only in accordance with her wishes.

sproutsandparsnips · 29/12/2021 09:11

That's a shame Prok, are you allowed to visit at the moment?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/12/2021 10:10

Sprout
She is not responding at the moment and she is in her hometown at the French border - we are at the other end of the country. DH waits for news and has to check the rules. She is 96 and has been praying for delivery for years.

@prok, I hope your DMIL is comfortable.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/12/2021 10:43

Nydj Thank you. Her fever is down, otherwise no change. The home is keeping in contact.

I have been out to buy bird seed (because of morose pigeon) and wall calendars. Cats for DS and a no fuss black and white one for DD.

HelenaJustina · 29/12/2021 12:48

I left the house at 8.30am this morning to take DC1 to Diddly Squat Farm Shop. They were desperate to go and it is closing for all of Jan and Feb. We were second in the queue and stopped at Burford for coffee in the way home. Good parenting done for today.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/12/2021 14:03

Excellent parenting helena Xmas Smile

Hope your DMiL remains comfortable prok

We on the other hand have been to view a house which we have inexplicably fallen in love with, despite all the reasons it's not a practical choice. DH is bemused as he left home clearly determined to dislike the house, and yet has been completely bowled over.

MissConductUS · 29/12/2021 14:19

Prok, I'm sorry to hear about your DMIL. It sounds like she is getting good care.

We went to my DMIL's flat for dinner last night. It was nice to see her, but she's 92 and keeps the heat way, way up. It was at least 27 degrees. DH convinced her to let him open a window, which helped.

She ordered Italian food, which was quite good. We brought home lots of leftover lasagna. The only awkward moment was when DS managed to drop a scoop of lasagna onto the carpet. DH did a brilliant job of cleaning it up, but DS still felt mortified.

Lasagne is lovely - I put that on the whishlist for Sylvester (New year's eve). Everything is cancelled again, so there is nothing much else to do apart from eating, board games and sleeping.

MissConductUS · 29/12/2021 14:44

Prok, I ordered a cat calendar too. We are just staying in on NYE.

Helena, did you see Jeremy Clarkson?

Champagne, are you really house hunting or is this just a lark?

DD is up, raided the kitchen for some toasted French bread. DS is still asleep.

I took DD4 for her annual medical checkup at the crack of silly o'clock, and she's now back in bed, but the downstairs neighbour's dog is barking his head off so I doubt she'll get any sleep.

DD3 had her covid booster yesterday, and mine is on Friday.

The Christmas tree is still going strong, not many needles shed. I think the tip I got about only using warm water has worked.

I give Dcat her wet food once a day, MissC. Initially this happened when I would come home from work, but when DD3's university went online last year Dcat started mithering her for food earlier and earlier, and DD got tired of Dcat's begging antics so fed her. She's now worked us back to somewhere between noon and 2pm. I fear if I fed her in the morning and evening I would eventually find myself shaking Fancy Feast into her bowl at 2 in the morning.

HelenaJustina · 29/12/2021 15:08

We did not see Clarkson Miss but that in no way detracted from the experience soaking wet and muddy as it was

Champagne I find brownie points with teenagers have an extremely short half-life but I anticipate being in her good books for at least 5-6 hours! DH was the same about our current house, he nearly cancelled the viewing. We had been through the door for about 45 seconds when he whispered to me ‘this is it’.

Silkieschickens · 29/12/2021 15:10

Thanks Prok I would love to swim again but difficult with covid and some of treatments so am sticking with leg and arm exercises from recliner with music on, its fine and nice and snuggly in there and cold and rainy outside. Hope your MIL will be well looked after.

DH has just made us homemade veg soup with crusty bread and butter and made an appointment for dentists tomorrow.

Guinea pigs would be lovely Acorns

Champagneforeveryone · 29/12/2021 15:14

Not a lark miss, house hunting in absolute earnest Xmas Confused

I'm hating every moment and the second guessing is driving me to the very edges of my sanity.

mathanxiety · 29/12/2021 15:17

Sad news about your MIL, Prok. Hoping they are taking good care of her and that she's comfortable.

Today is soup day, with turkey bones simmering for stock and a plan to make split pea soup and carrot and ginger soup in the afternoon. I found packets of frozen ginger and garlic cubes in the international frozen section of my local supermarket a few weeks ago, which I think will be very handy for the carrot soup.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/12/2021 15:35

Silkie Swimming was supposed to be the end of my rehab - but I never managed it (I can do 1 lane of breaststroke if I have to.)

There is this costume historian on YT whose films always feature her guinea pig (Meerschweinchen). They and rabbits do get along if I remember rightly.

Thanks math they are doing their best.

Acornsandleaves · 29/12/2021 16:26

Sorry to hear about your MIL Prok, I hope she stays comfortable

Silkieschickens · 29/12/2021 20:53

I used to swim loads up until a few years ago, about 3 times a week, 100 lengths or so each time. But now only go on holiday or odd time to Lido and more like 30 lengths now. But am keeping to the 30 minute exercising each day at home now since my operation which is definitely helping with the excess fluid.

I now have dentists tomorrow. Been chatting a lot to a lady with same cancer as me today.

Just about to have chinese, sweet and sour prawns with mixed fried rice, sharing with DH.

Silkiecat is super jealous that DH is normally with me now and has starting howling every 2 minutes he is away from her side or if he speaks to me and goes on in night as well. Wabbit is getting cross with cat and starts punching cardboard boxes which sets cat off more. DH has cleaned living room carpet, no mean feet with a untidy DS and wabbit shredder there and built the wabbit tunnels I bought. DH is getting a bit stressed by all the demands but he loves us all but wishes Silkiecat would let him sleep. Though he at least has one deaf ear, wish I did too atm. I said I will buy him a baby sling for Silkiecat.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/12/2021 21:11

DD showed me a hoodie with a cat carrier pocket - let me see something like that, but prettier.
Die rabbit like his tunnels?

Wow at your swimming skills - I have never managed it, though it is so so healthy

Silkieschickens · 29/12/2021 22:16

Love that Prok and showed DH, think he loves it but is a bit nervous as Silkiecat if he does not obey in seconds can swipe him with her paws when she is in a very demanding mood. She is almost always lovely with him but can get the claws out to make a point if he is being a bad cat servant and has done something very bad like speak to me. But as soon as he gets close to her she does her special purr really loudly. I saw some cat slings which might worknas has paws in and further down.

I remember my German friend when we were at university decided we should swim in a lake so I went to swim to the other side of the lake, a third the way across I heard him shout I am drowning, no one ever swims across the lake. Xmas Grin

Silkieschickens · 29/12/2021 22:18

Not checked for wabbit as DS is asleep with him now but the box bashing has stopped so hopefully happily in a tunnel or the house in the middle.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/12/2021 22:51

Grin - Did you turn round and rescue them? or did they manage on their own und you are now a legendary "first crosser of the lake"?

Re: DH's papers - there are tiny signs of admin activity. He finished a project which went very well and he can now take a break of sorts. He promised they are gone on the 1st.

Nydj · 29/12/2021 23:26

Ah but, @Prokupatuscrakedatus, did he specify the 1st of which month and which year?!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/12/2021 23:51

Nydj I did not think of that - no, he did not mention a year. Or month. Xmas Shock

Deathraystare · 30/12/2021 04:57

Well I am glad that most of you had a good Christmas! Though I was shocked to read on my phone how many people had rotten turkeys. Must have really spoilt the day I reckon next year people won't want turkey so much.

As you know I had Covid so was unable to work over Christmas. I had been shining about all the films etc that I would miss because of work, but missed them anyway due to sleeping too much. I am very grateful that the Covid dose is very mild, just light a very slight cold, but the tiredness is the thing. Managed to watch most of my recently bought Dvds. I have varied tastes. From Sandra Bullock room coms. The Heat is just com without the room bit and I love it. I have Cracker box set, Black Sails, Spy, quietbplace 1 and 2, Thai s, Planes and Automobiles (love John Candy!!!) And my favourite Korean film Parasite.

My civjd test kit arrived so I can test myself tomorrow. If all goes to plan I should be back at work on my birthday (2nd January).

I had NHS ring me yesterday to ask a lot of questions. However, halfway through she took another call and left me dangling. Yes I know they are busy but still... so I disconnected. I am very grateful that an ex flat mate is kindly doing a shop for me (essentials = milk and Brandy!!). However I need to get well quickly as I need to chuck some rubbish out.

I hope I am well on 2nd as I have missed being in work. Sorry, I know some people are having a rough time of it healthwise. @silkiescat, I hope you carry on exercising to music hopefully it won't be such a chore. I had a laugh when you mentioned Silkicat enjoying the turkey. Ours (sadly no more), would crave ot for about 4_5 days, then get incredibly irritated that they had not been put back on their pouched food on Day 6!
