We had a lovely Christmas here, family gift exchange on Christmas Eve with DD1 and BF joining us via Facetime, and then a big Christmas brunch cooked by DS, then dinner later. I have never managed to get Christmas dinner on the table before 7.30. I think it's because my relatives in Ireland call me all afternoon, on after another...

HelenaJustina · 28/12/2021 09:30

We’re going on a family walk this morning, I can’t decide whether to go for a quick run first.

Nydj · 28/12/2021 10:00

Had a lovely catch up with my siblings and their partners yesterday. Even by our standards, a record amount of food was eaten in just over 5 hours but I have a tray of cannelloni left over so no cooking for dinner today!
I was planning on indoor exercise today as the weather was not good for a walk (sorry, @Champagneforeveryone!) but now it’s clearing and I am in a dilemma as to risk a walk or do YouTube video with Lesley Sansone. Will decide after more tea

Saw a panto yesterday. I had a lot of fun clapping and singing with a mask on.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/12/2021 10:47

DD has discovered the 'Rutherford' Miss Marple Grin

I need to at least lose a stone for my foot to reamain stable and for me to get up to the 5th floor without a break. And - as DD reminded me - I am not getting younger. But first I have to finish my chocolate chores - 100g of white crisp!

Champagneforeveryone · 28/12/2021 12:19

Good luck to those braving the elements today. We started miraculously dry yesterday, in fact the only time we got wet was walking from the pub to the car Xmas Grin

DS and I are off to sainsburys in a bit to stock up for New Year's Eve when we will have 8 of his friends overnight. We've only recently had the space to host that many and they are nice lads so I'm quietly pleased Xmas Wink

Welcome, @languagelover96, and thanks for sharing your holiday entertainment news. We don't have pantos in the US and it's our loss.

I'm so glad that everyone's holiday get-togethers. We had to reschedule our visit to my DB, SIL and nephew yesterday due to snow in the forecast. There is a mountain we have to drive over to get to him and it is absolutely treacherous in snow. We will miss seeing dear nephew as he is driving home today, but we did see him on Thanksgiving.

DD is seeing her high school art teacher this morning to help her with a stained glass project (and making $15 per hour doing so), then going to Five Guys for lunch with her boyfriend. Tonight we are going to see my MIL to have dinner and exchange gifts.

We're going to have a roast chicken for dinner on NYE, possibly with mac & cheese, then the first is DH's birthday. I'll order his chocolate mouse cake from the bakery today.

@MissConductUS it’s real shame that you guys miss out on panties. We went to a local one about ten days ago which was really well produced - great fun but I was stunned that all three of us remain negative for covid afterwards as there were a lot of people there and we all shouted and sang a lot!

MissConductUS · 28/12/2021 14:11

@Nydj

it’s real shame that you guys miss out on panties.

I have a drawer full of them, it's pantos we're lacking. Grin

DS just got up. He's had a bit of a cold but sounds better this morning. I'll make him an omlette if he's hungry.

Oh my goodness! I feel a namechange coming on - how embarrassing. Blush

HelenaJustina · 28/12/2021 14:55

The walk was excellent, 4 adults, 7 DC and 2 dogs round 4.5 miles with no moaning. V muddy in places but manageable. We stopped at the pub in the village on the way home and bought the DC chips for lunch.

Have got dull cleaning to do this afternoon. And may make a start on harrying the DC to find homes for some of their new things.

MissConductUS · 28/12/2021 14:56

People in the UK do have some odd ideas about us Yanks, but lacking underwear is a new one. Grin

@Silkieschickens

Merry Christmas Ginger and Wartycat. I got 2 of these www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/cashmere-knitted-top/sty-k0475 in the pink and pale green and a cashmere cropped cardigan in the pale green but if you type cashmere into the search box in Boden and then low to high price and womens it shows all on offer.
Thanks Silkie! Warty cat sends hugs.

Been working today sorting and tidying for new term.

Am trying to get over the fact mil hasn’t fed ds all day as she doesn’t want him to choke.

MissConductUS · 28/12/2021 16:33

Lemons, what did you leave for her to give him?

My DS passed on the omelet offer and had a cider donut instead. No choking ensued.

Yeah I sent some very small finger food think an 8th of a grape small and milk. He has had half his normal amount of milk and no finger food

Pheebs2021 · 28/12/2021 17:32

Hello all, an extremely quite Christmas has been had in Casa del Pheebs, but much needed as baby is giving me quite an hard time with the Ligament discomfort. Also think I've slept funnily too as a result my side is hurting me when I laugh or cough!

mathanxiety · 28/12/2021 17:51

Lemons, I would hesitate to let MIL have DS for the day again, I have to say. Cut up food is one thing, but milk? She sounds a tad anxious.

We're having what they call a 'wintry mix' here, weather wise. Because of the gloom, Dcat has started her campaign for wet food an hour earlier than usual. So far she has scratched the TV, leapt onto the mantelpiece, scattering the three wise men and the ox, and batted several low hanging baubles on the Christmas tree. She's now doing her leaping in doorways thing. I may give in.

MissConductUS · 28/12/2021 18:48

It's lovely to see you again, Pheebs. My Christmas was quiet as well.

Math, how often do you give her the wet food? Ours get it twice a day, and have some creative ways of getting DH out of bed for the first feeding.

DD is out having lunch with her boyfriend, and we'll be off in about two hours to see MIL for dinner.

I’ve cleaned the bathrooms and then swept and mopped all the hard floors. The DC were slightly baffled at this display of domesticity and stayed hid in their rooms while it was going on.

Silkieschickens · 28/12/2021 19:43

Silkiecat is being very whiny, she wants DH next to her 24/7 but she refuses to move from the dining room and she gets very jealous when DH talks to me, its not fair just because I have cancer and have had an operation I should get more attention from DH. Wabbit keeps eating Xmas carboard boxes and bashing them loudly then Silkiecat gets mad with him for disturbing her.

DD has been out with friends for the day, DH is cooking sausages from the butchers hamper with veg and mash.

I am doing about 30 mins exercise a day trying to get fitter and get rid of excess fluid, does not seem to be increasing at least and no longer need any pain relief, other than that just listening to music etc, will be glad when stitches come off on 31st.

IWanderedLonely · 28/12/2021 20:06

Had a pottering day today. We bought ourselves a robot hoover, sort of for Christmas. It's very entertaining to watch. We've christened her Nelly as the brand is Lefant ( say it quickly. Yes we have a weird sense of humourGrin)
I think I'm doing something wrong with it though - I set the timer to start at 9 a.m., which it did, went for a run and it was still going when we got back at 10 to 11. Surely it shouldn't take that long. DD will explain it all (hopefully) when she's next here.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/12/2021 20:16

Silkie That sounds quite good and you are very disciplined Flowers
My physio wanted me to take up swimming on my back (artistic drowning) because that's so great for the lymphatic system. Hmm
Temperatures have gone from -8°C to +5°C on their way to +13°C via snow, icey rain and now ordinary downpour. Somebody started to pluck at my brain with a knitting needle.
DS seems to work at his paper, DD will have a look on Friday.

We have a Eufy called Dog. During lockdown I managed to program Alexa to set him loose when I tell her to "release the dogs of war" - even today it makes me chuckle at my own cleverness Xmas Grin Unless we programme a certain time or press the timer button he mooches about until he's running out of battery. We have a 30 minute timer button or we press the button to send him home when he's done his bit.

I've enjoyed catching up on everyone's Christmas news. We spent Christmas at my mum's house then went to my in laws on boxing Day and stayed over. They live in a beautiful countryside cottage and we had a lovely time with nice (but foggy) walks and board games in front of a log fire.

I'm looking forward to adopting some guinea pigs sometime in January. I've been buying lots of things ready for them and we're planning an ikea trip today to buy some furniture to go under their cage. We all love ikea so we're happy to have an excuse!
