I ran to Mass this morning, the family met me there. We returned home to lateral flow and are off to my parents where there will be many siblings, nieces and nephews. This is the gathering I missed most last year, so pleased we can go ahead today. It will definitely not be dull…

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/12/2021 11:57

HelenaJustina Have a really good time!!

Silkieschickens · 26/12/2021 12:15

A rainy boxing day here, just a lazy day though ordered some cashmere tops from Boden sale half price and lovely to have soft things now.

Will likely have turkey and coleslaw sandwiches for lunch. DH has been resting and of course is in big trouble with Silkiecat and cat servant does not include rest breaks especially when there is turkey close by.

Have a lovely Boxing Day everyone. Glad you had a lovely first Christmas Lemons and hope your DB gets the all clear, think something like 9 out of 10 are all clears and he is young so odds are very much on his side. Have a lovely time with your wider family Helena

Must try and exercise a bit today, the only thing I have planned over next few weeks are medical appointments, hospital, dentist and booster and inbetween am mainly on my pink recliner with fleece everything hearing the birds sing, looking at thatched roof, being very well looked after by DH, watching TV, reading etc, also need to plan DSs birthday in early January. Must get back to my friend actually, she keeps messaging DHs phone, have told her I am fine a few times and she is on holiday this week but she will want to chat for an hour, she is so lovely but I just want to rest atm and she should be enjoying her holiday.

Just had a phone call from the hospital-my DH has an MRI appointment for New Years Day!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/12/2021 12:58

@Silkieschickens - That sounds like great plans - not so much the dentist and stuff but the whole fluffy recliner thing. But where are you that there is bird song? The only thing I can hear here are crows (lots of them). I went out in my dressing gown and slippers this morning at -8° C and gave food to morose pigeon and mate. Did they thank me? No, I only got an 'about time'-look.

Silkieschickens · 26/12/2021 13:14

Glad your DH has an MRI booked Sue even if a bit of an odd NYD, hopefully drunks will be back home by then.

Prok lots of birds chirping here, we have 2 holly trees and presume they are there, the sound is like robins.

Silkieschickens · 26/12/2021 13:16

Morose pidgeon sounds similar to Silkiecat only you would have got a you are late glare before devouring the whole thing in seconds and then being happy cat again.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/12/2021 13:45

They ate and flew off into the wisteria.
And that is a lovely website. And I learned a new word while exploring.
Bird of the year 2022 in Germany is the 'Wiedehopf', which is 'hoopoe' in English.

Nydj · 26/12/2021 14:02

I got very wet during my walk today and had to cut it short to just half an hour. I waited until it had stopped raining before starting out but the clouds got bored.

Glad your DH has a date for the MRI Sue.

The recliner plans sound lovely Silkies and I’m really pleased that you had a good Christmas.

Miss stockings over the mantle is such a sensible idea - no worrying about waking children up while putting it on the end of the bed etc.

All the best to your brother lemons.

I have industrial quantities of chocolate to get through and it won’t eat itself so I am bout to start on some more for today Grin.

MissConductUS · 26/12/2021 14:54

Happy Boxing Day everyone. I wish we had Boxing Day here.

Lemons, congrats on your first Xmas as a mum and I hope your DB is okay. As Silkie mentioned, most cancer screens come up negative and are being done to rule out the worst-case scenario. We do lots of routine cancer screening here just to catch it early.

Sue, it's good that they got him in so quickly. MRI machines are very expensive so they try to schedule them to stay as busy as possible. How is he feeling?

Helena, I'm sure you are in transit at this point, but I hope you have a lovely holiday visit.

Silkie, it sounds like you had a fab Christmas.

Nydj, I got a box of large Godiva chocolates from DH the cats that I am waiting to dig into. It's still morning here, unfortunately.

Tomorrow we are off to see my DB, SIL, and nephews, then Tuesday we see my dear MIL. Today I think we're just puttering around the house recovering from Christmas. Christmas dinner was great, and lovely to have both kids home.

Happy Boxing Day to those who have them. Ours is being rather lazy, although we just went out for a walk in the slightly drizzly dank afternoon. One coffee shop was open in the small place where we're staying over Christmas, and was predictably inundated with people ordering double spiced hot moccachinos with whipped cream (not actual drinks I'm sure Grin, but think really complicated things), and one poor barista was working like crazy to try and stop the queue getting to a mile long.

Our Christmas dinner yesterday was, amazingly, the least stress-free I think it's ever been, although I was only cooking for me and DH, plus the neighbour who was isolating waiting for her PCR result. We agreed I'd leave dinner on the doorstep for her at 2pm and to my own astonishment, that's when I delivered it. I think it's the first time I've ever had Christmas dinner ready at the time I've been aiming for!

HelenaJustina · 26/12/2021 17:20

It’s not far Miss only 25 minutes from home. It’s been bonkers but lovely. We’re taking home more presents than we arrived with. Quite looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow.

@Nydj you are such a hero re the chocolate, I’ve got a similar problem #notaproblem

Silkieschickens · 26/12/2021 17:34

The hoopie looks like a very glamorous bird Prok I love the rspb website too and just watched the Robin Robin film on Netflix, think I am quite a bit older than the target audience but it was a sweet film.

In solidarity with your chocolate problem Nydj I did not want you to be going through this alone so I sent DH out for quality street and had all the strawberry creams and one of the much sought after triangles.

Have a lovely visit to your relatives MissC

Well done on getting Xmas dinner on time Hilda

Glad you had a nice day Helena

Decided I am not hungry enough for Christmas turkey curry but will have Christmas pudding and double cream with a cup of tea, you do not need to be especially hungry for that.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/12/2021 17:55

I would so love to help you with your chocolate chores, but the key is with DH. So I will join you with celementines and puszta salad.

Silkieschickens · 26/12/2021 18:09

DD has just re dyed her hair and is now wandering about in shorts.🤔

HelenaJustina · 26/12/2021 18:34

Mum did a turkey lunch with their leftovers and the DC had a ‘party tea’ so am planning to eat only cheese/crackers/chocolate/Christmas cake for dinner, think that’s all the food groups covered!

Silkieschickens · 26/12/2021 19:06

That menu would get Silkiecat very excited as she assumes anything starting with ch is chicken. Xmas Wink

Champagneforeveryone · 26/12/2021 21:48

I have a new work mug for Christmas. It's so good that it's averaging me about three quarters of an hour to be able to drink a cup of tea Xmas Grin

Nydj · 26/12/2021 21:56

Solidarity with everyone who is having to eat chocolate today, and possibly, for the foreseeable future. I have managed to eat some heroes and lindor balls(mainly salted caramel).

Champagneforeveryone · 27/12/2021 12:46

Wicked wife / mother alert...
We are going on A Family Walk. DH and DS and currently arranging the grand car shuffle which means we can walk out and drive back while I contemplate getting dressed after my post night shift nap. There's much mutinous muttering about,

  1. The rain (we live in England and it's winter)
  2. The mud (see point 1)
  3. The cold (see point 1)

My mild assertions that we have more than enough weather appropriate gear have been scoffed at - indeed I even heard the word "maniac" being muttered at one point Xmas Grin

HelenaJustina · 27/12/2021 13:03

Ha @Champagneforeveryone we did this on Christmas Day. and Wednesday last week I’ve organised to meet another family with similarly aged DC and dogs tomorrow to repeat the exercise. The DC are having a pyjama day today in protest.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/12/2021 14:10

Hay thanks for all the kind messages for my DB.

Our tv remote is broken have ordered another from Amazon. Prime says 3 days for it! No tv until it arrives as it needs re programming.

Someone got DS this ball that vibrates and shakes as it moves. DS hates it and cried hysterically when he accidentally knocked it. It may end up in my work in the sensory pod.

@Champagneforeveryone I find once you get walking people enjoy it.

@Silkieschickens you would be fine in our house nobody likes the triangle quality street or the strawberry they are always left to go off.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/12/2021 14:23

Woke up to a commotion in the staircase. 3 workmen needed to access the roof and had trouble with the ladder. They got up just when the weather started. They were pelted with little icy needles. No hi-viz as they were there for a chimney - so all in black but no cylinders, only caps.

Gingerwarthog · 27/12/2021 16:58

Could you send link to the Boden cashmere? Merry Christmas xxx
Silkieschickens · 27/12/2021 18:45

Merry Christmas Ginger and Wartycat. I got 2 of these www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/cashmere-knitted-top/sty-k0475 in the pink and pale green and a cashmere cropped cardigan in the pale green but if you type cashmere into the search box in Boden and then low to high price and womens it shows all on offer.
