@MissConductUS

Welcome, *@Politics4me*, and thanks for your shopping news. I tend to think of a journey as a round trip, but I can see your point of view.

A small mystery was solved today. DS has a room downstairs we refer to as his cave. It has a comfortable chair and a small TV with a cable box. While he's been away at uni, we have occasionally found the TV mysteriously on. DH discovered that dear boy cat has been sitting on the cable box (for the warmth, no doubt) and turning it on by pressing down on the power button with his backend. We had just unplugged the TV, but since DS is coming home today it will have to get plugged back in. DH has moved the cable box to a location that will make it less inviting to the cat.

That would freak me out - at least u til working out what was causing the tv to get switched on!

We have two sets of lights on our Christmas tree and the ones on the lower half of the tree automatically switch off after eight hours. Even with this knowledge, it makes me jump a little when the lights on the lower half of the tree suddenly switch off. I am a proper wimp.

MissConductUS · 24/12/2021 00:16

Nydj, that doesn't make you a wimp. It means that you have a strong survival instinct. Smile

Here is the telly activating culprit. The box is correct. He does not like the cold. He is not a cat. He is a very, very small lion.

DS wanted to make pizza tomorrow so we had a takeaway for dinner.

DD2 arrived from the east coast at the crack of dawn today, and fell asleep in mid sentence around 4pm, so I woke her up and brought her to her hotel downtown. There is no room at this inn for out of towners, and she loves having her own bathroom.

When she was leaving for the airport around 3am one of her roommates thought she was a burglar creaking around and called the police. DD was putting her suitcase into the boot of her Uber when the police rolled up, so she explained the situation.

math what a start to her journey! And an impressively speedy reaction from the police as well. It takes about 20 minutes for any emergency services to reach us.

My spiced beef is simmering, my house smells like Christmas!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2021 09:51

I wish you all a happy and content Christmas.

Christmas for me happens on the 24th (Heiligabend). It used to start with a nativity (Krippenandacht) at 15:00, a simple meal at 18:00 h, presents for DC after that and church at 22.00 h. Before the DC grew up and the plague arrived, that is.
All the shops close at 14:00 h, so DH is of to get the last few ingredients, I do a few chores. And that is - hopefully - it until the 27th.

Silkieschickens · 24/12/2021 09:55

Wishing you a lovely Christmas Prok.

I have just had a merry Christmas message from my German friend who was at university with me.

HelenaJustina · 24/12/2021 10:20

Fröhliche weihnachten @Prokupatuscrakedatus hope you have a wonderful one, even if not as it used to be. Our ‘midnight’ Mass is at 9pm tonight, though will go at 9am tomorrow as well as youngest DC isn’t old enough to do a vigil Mass yet.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2021 10:24

@HelenaJustina - When the children were small we took turns - I went at night and DH in the morning with DC and on the 26th we all went together.

Thank you all for you wishes.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/12/2021 11:03

Just want to wish you all a very merry Christmas.

Enjoy the festivities.

Stay safe

A very happy Christmas to you and yours, @Prokupatuscrakedatus

And to everyone on this lovely thread.

We had snow last night! It might all melt off today as it's supposed to rise to a few degrees above freezing. There were snow flurries in the forecast, but it wasn't supposed to be much. I'd say we got half an inch.

I had to run to the supermarket this morning to get apples, as I've made a last minute decision to make an apple pie today. The roads weren't bad and we have snow tyres on one of the cars, so I took that one.

I think we'll probably just do Zoom church tonight. Covid is rampant around here at the moment and the last thing we want is a breakthrough case when we're going to visit family next week.

A very Merry (or Happy) Christmas to one and all, including any lurkers. Grin

Work has decided that they know better than the NHS and I am duly released from isolation.

While I am grateful in a way (and they are in all likelihood correct) I am a little wistful that I'm not holed up in the house for a week.

In mildly concerning news, DH is missing in action. He's headed off to the little Waitrose for a couple of last minute bits and has failed to return. Amusingly he's always scoffed at my tales of pre-Christmas supermarket madness, so this will be a bit of an eye opener for him

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2021 14:23

DH is preparing the tradtional potato salad (Baden variety), DD and I pay our duties to the owl. I am sitting here in several warm layers of clothing + a blanket. The flat was built before insulation was a thing and it is 15 °C at the dining table and will not get warmer.

sueelleker · 24/12/2021 14:29

Will everyone please keep their fingers crossed for me? My DH had to go back into hospital yesterday morning, with a bladder infection. We're hoping they'll send him home this evening, but we won't know until later. He's on antibiotics and feeling much better.

Champagneforeveryone · 24/12/2021 14:32

To anyone concerned, DH has returned!

He's rather ashen faced and was triumphantly clutching his little bag of goodies as though it was his first born child. He has declared the supermarket to be "absolute mayhem", and I'm sure quietly believes it was far worse than all the other times when I've been Xmas Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 24/12/2021 14:34

Sorry sue, I cross posted with yours. All the very best of wishes for you and DH Daffodil

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2021 14:37

Sue I keep every finger crossed for you and your DH!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2021 14:41

Champagne I am so very happy the the whole food shop and cooking department is DH's job!

MissConductUS · 24/12/2021 14:47

Sue, fingers crossed! Did he require IV antibiotics?

My supermarket wasn't that busy, but I was there at 7:30 AM.

@sueelleker, fingers and toes crossed that your DH is well enough to return home today and that you, everyone on these threads and all lurkers have a lovely Christmas.

DoctorTwo · 24/12/2021 16:45

I had my booster yesterday and when I went to bed at 2330 I felt fine. When I woke up at 0530 I felt ropey as fuck, and thengs got worse till 0830 when I went back to bed. Now I just feel like I've been hit by a bus.

I went to the supermarket and bought half a leg of lamb to have for my dinner tomorrow.

haave a good christmas all, and stay safe.

HildaTablet · 24/12/2021 17:00

@sueelleker Adding my hopes that your DH is OK and makes it home. How worrying for you, I’m sorry.

Merry Christmas to all you lovely people.

She really hope your DH makes it home and recovers well.

Beautiful tree Prok and lovely snow ❄ MissC

I am back from hospital and have been drained, was nervous as originally was scheduled to see scary nurse but my luck was in and got lovely nurse. My female surgeon was also in on her day off and sent me a thank you message and said I could see her today, I didn't as it was her day off. I nominated her before for the staff awards and told Chief of Staff how amazing she was and one of the nurses especially was and nominated them and CoS sent me a lovely reply and also sent his thanks with mine on to them.

The nurse did say that everyone knew me there and that some patients no one notices and some patients they get to know well. She was so lovely and kind. They shut for 4 days now so it's good to be drained today, apparently I am an amazing drained in surgery so not too much, 100ml for a week today and can go back next week if I want. I had a careful bath afterwards. Found another lovely lady going through same, a few of them now and we support each other. I am now in koala 🐨 onesie back on recliner. Christmas good all collected just few presents to wrap by DH.
