Mtv on in background, sclub7 'never had a dream come true' is on and have such nostalgia for the sparkly, shimmery make up of the late 90s, Rimmel's Heather Shimmer, Fudge Brownie and glitter gel, butterfly clips, hair mascara and all that!

1990 Transparent burgundy lipstick. Maybe by max factor? Not sure. Used it until I couldn’t find it anymore.

I remember the white eyeliner to make your eyes bigger thing and the white nail pencil.

That Instagram teen magazines link is great!

Transparent burgundy lipstick.

It was sheer but buildable. Why do they discontinue things 😩

Ahhh I was only talking with a friend about 90s make up the other day have loved reading this thread! Impuls o2 was my favourite spray I loved it! Constance carrol - market make up was the best! I used to love Ru by Rimmel they did a limited edition range at Superdrug and I bought every item they sold - favourite being frosted icy blue lipstick BlushGrin it was amazing the brightest most garish colours!

Ahh the 80s and 90s were fab for makeup.

Constance Carroll also did those rollerball lip glosses. Thick, gloopy ones that tasted of cherry made you look like you’d been sucking a chip pan.

I loved Heather Shimmer, Coffee Shimmer, BonBon, Twilight Teaser. I still wear a Rimmel one called Asia.

Electric blue mascara and eyeliner. Then black kohl inside your eyelid that gave you massive corner eye gloop, or with the white liner that @TheBermudaTriangle remembers!

I don’t remember really wearing foundation, just lots of eye makeup and lipstick and stripes of blusher with shimmery highlighter above it to show off your cheekbones.

Lots of perfume - Anais Anais, Charlie Red, Gloria Vanderbilt, Exclamation, Body Shop Dewberry or White Musk.

Clothes wise in the nineties it was all about combat trousers, cropped tops, bootcut jeans, shirts with waistcoats, cutoff jeans over opaque tights with boots.

Loved it all.

I was a 90's goth (still am, never leaves you Grin) so I had black Cherry lipstick, copious amounts of eyeliner, black nail polish, I kept my hair short and spiky with a long bit at the front, dyed jet black (rip my mums bathroom carpet) and loaded with glitter hair gel, loads of black velvet hippy type stuff and stripy tights! I loved my stripy tights. So much so when snag did stripy tights for Halloween one year I bought some quicker than you could blink 😂😂. Oh and my doc martens that I spent ages making look knackered because you'd rather be seen dead than with 'new' doc martens back then.

@Nopetryagain

Rimmel Birthday Suit lipstick and red hair mascara. Silver top liner. The BEST!!
I have never found a shade that suits me as well as Birthday Suit - even the slightly updated version was noticeably worse

@TheBermudaTriangle

This is probably a really niche memory - but I vaguely recall using white eyeliner in the 90s (on the inner eyeline, to make your eyes appear wider!) and also this white nail pencil, to make your nail tips to appear whiter (essential for the classic French Manicure look).

Please tell me this isn't some weird fever dream fake memory.

I remember being on a school residential trip in the late 90s and we were all attempting white eye liner.
ImprobablePuffin · 14/12/2021 08:58

What a great thread. I miss the 90's!

My standout memories were electric blue hair mascara, plum/midnight hair dye, flat as a pancake hair once we had discovered hair straighteners and also frosted amethyst eye shadow.
Also massive wide leg jeans. I was an awkward teen who was a bit goth, a bit skater-ey and also trying desperately to be like the cool girls from tv. It was a heady mix.

I used to struggle to buy the magazines I liked (More magazine!) plus make-up, the magazines always seem to have great freebies in. I used to nick the odd freebie stuck on a magazine from my local newsagents Blush

Lushplease · 14/12/2021 09:14

My favourite things were-

Monsoon perfume (blue bottle)
Body Shop passion fruit face wash
Boots 17 Twilight Teaser lipstick
Boots 17 Dragons blood nail varnish with the UV top coat.
Boots 17 Candyfloss lip gloss ( in hindsight I looked like I'd been sucking lard).
Giorgio BH Ocean dream.
Shockwaves and Salon Selectives mousse.
Gliss Shine Spray
L'Oreal Jet Set Lip gloss

Lushplease · 14/12/2021 09:15

Oooh and I loved Charlie Gold and Charlie White.

To everyone saying they still suit heather shimmer 30 years later....get a second opinion..

On a fresh faced 17 yr old it looks good, on a nearly 50 something it looks like you've got heart trouble..

I got nostalgic for exclamation perfume a couple of years ago. Jokingly told DP I wanted some for my birthday and he bought me it.

So many people commented on my perfume and asked what it was Grin

IWasHotInTheNineties · 14/12/2021 09:46

@RobertSmithsLipstick

I used to love the mascara in those days. They stayed on for days!
When you removed it you also removed your actual eyelashes.
justasking111 · 14/12/2021 16:07

YouGotThisKeepGoing · 14/12/2021 16:48
