Mtv on in background, sclub7 'never had a dream come true' is on and have such nostalgia for the sparkly, shimmery make up of the late 90s, Rimmel's Heather Shimmer, Fudge Brownie and glitter gel, butterfly clips, hair mascara and all that!

Heather Shimmer was definitely 80's ,I had it plastered over my lips in 84 when I was 14 Grin Also Blondie lippy.

Nopetryagain · 13/12/2021 10:31

Rimmel Birthday Suit lipstick and red hair mascara. Silver top liner. The BEST!!

Mackmama · 13/12/2021 10:31

Love these nostalgia threads. Exclamation, Les Belles, Body Shop, Boots Natural Collection all my faves and remind me of nice times with my mam and two older cousins growing up Grin

Was that Mary Quant? If so, I loved the nail varnish - black with pinky/red glitter.

Ah, no - Mary Quant wouldn't have been in my budget back then Grin.

It was Rimmel (in the days when they were a budget brand rather than Rimmel London).

I've never been much one for nail varnish but I did have a brief flirtation with black nail varnish - in the days when anything other than reds/pinks could only be found on market stalls. I think it was by 'Miners'.

BessMarvin · 13/12/2021 17:04

Now having a massive amount of nostalgia for high school days.

vampirethriller · 13/12/2021 17:50

Oh I had a really lovely bronzey-gold mail polish by Miners. And a pale blue glittery one from Rimmel, I think it was called Ethereal. I haven't worn nail polish in years but I used to love it and get told off at school for it, the deputy head would send me to the science labs for acetone!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 13/12/2021 18:34

Yes - there was 'Miners' and 'Constance Carroll' that used to have all the colours which, back in the 80s and 90s, were considered outre - I used to like rummaging through the little plastic trays in the indoor market for bargains.

BashfulClam · 13/12/2021 19:41

I feel homesick for the 90’s. It was definitely my era.

Thank you for clarifying. Smile

This is probably a really niche memory - but I vaguely recall using white eyeliner in the 90s (on the inner eyeline, to make your eyes appear wider!) and also this white nail pencil, to make your nail tips to appear whiter (essential for the classic French Manicure look).

Please tell me this isn't some weird fever dream fake memory.

TheBermudaTriangle · 14/12/2021 04:07

@Underkill

I have found my people... Teenage goth here (still love rock n roll) my choker from Claires, shag bands all up my arm, Brian Molko being a sex pixie, Danny Wildheart looking like the sexiest man alive. Long black skirts and plum hairdye. Happy, happy days. Oh and purple fountain pen ink and boys in black nail polish. Ohh.
This sounds like my 90s youth too. Buying massive wide leg baggy jeans and other funky things from Pop Boutique in London, and sending off for and sharing various Manic Street Preachers 'zines!

@BobbieT1999

I had amethyst shimmer too Grin Still feel nostalgic for Impulse O2!
I have a can of that still, got it off eBay a few years ago 😁 - it’s a gorgeous smell.
LaBellina · 14/12/2021 05:03

I still love heather shimmer! It really matches my skin and face. Also still love wearing shiny silvery eyeshadow!

🍼@TheBermudaTriangle nope not a fake memory but an essential part of the 90s make up routine!

We loved those glitter stars too and also UV nail varnish and UV face/body paint! I had my belly button pierced in the mid 90s as a 16 year old. Do kids still do that? I took out in my mid 30s as advised by an acupuncturist when ttc and I still miss it!

I styled myself as Jodie from Heartbreak High and often got compared to my delight. I had messy blonde highlights (courtesy of Sun-in or at home kits with those awful caps that you pulled hair through with a hook). Lots of black eyeliner and a choker style necklace with a large pendant.
Sometimes a black beanie hat. Babydoll dresses with bodysuits underneath with the poppers at the crotch and either platforms or DMs.

The only regret is my eyebrows. Plucked away never to return!

vampirethriller · 14/12/2021 06:59

@TheBermudaTriangle I had the white nail pencil as well, the lid had a flat bit for scraping under your nails clean. I didn't use white eyeliner, I liked the black Rimmel Kohl. I didn't stop using that until well into the 2000s Grin

FindingMeno · 14/12/2021 06:59

Sun-in for your hair.
It was a real dice roll - anything could happen.
L'Aimant perfume.
Hair crimpers.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 14/12/2021 07:00

Heather Shimmer!
It suited everyone.

Amazing Grin

Yep, I was a kohl eyeliner girl too - how I didn't get more eye infections with the amount of crap I put on my eyes, I do not know...

vampirethriller · 14/12/2021 07:02

I also have no eyebrows. My leaving the house routine goes Keys, Phone, Purse, Eyebrows.

IWasHotInTheNineties · 14/12/2021 07:05

We should all bring back the 90’s look. From today we all wear heather shimmer lipstick and hair mascara to any work dos, Christmas parties, school plays.
The world is a mess right now. Only a huge cloud of Exclamation! perfume and an arm bracelet can make us feel better.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 14/12/2021 07:08

I used to love the mascara in those days.
They stayed on for days!

katienana · 14/12/2021 07:08

@Miraloma

Boots 17 did an amazing cosmic girl range, lilac eyeshadows and lipstick and stiff called fairy dust that was basically talc with glitter on it.

My and my pals would get our wee black suit blazer jackets on and go party

Yes the fairy dust! I remember getting ready for a Christmas disco aged about 13 and my mum gave me this, saying g it was supposed to be part of my Christmas present but she thought I'd like it now. It was closer to a modern highlighter than the actual.glitter gel we normally used! Also glitter hairspray, nobody was really ready until they had glittery hair!!
RobertSmithsLipstick · 14/12/2021 07:13

For years I've looked for a constance Carroll lipstick I used to wear.
I've forgotten the shade though.
It was so pretty.
