DS19 never drunk alcohol and no interest

My DS19 is having a year out before uni, working to save some money. His friends who are at uni already seem to be having social lives involving alot of drinking. DS has never had any interest in trying any alcoholic drink. He prefers water! (unlike younger dd who is a lover of parties with plenty of cider) I am mildly concerned this will mean he struggles to fit in when he goes to uni next year. Anyone had any experience with teetotal teen offspring?

I have 3 DC at uni and none of them drink - my foster son feels it is bad for his menteal health and my DDs had an alcoholic for a father. They've all found their people - fortunately drinking at uni isn't compulsory and not drinking is becoming more and more mainstream.

I didn't drink until my 20's, and even then I wasn't a huge drinker, I maybe drink two or three times a year now. I've never had a problem in social situations. I might go home a bit earlier if everyone else is utterly wasted, but by that point they are to drink to notice I've gone.

He'll be fine.

Not drinking will be easier than only having one or two.

At 18 I only ever had one drink (alcoholic parents) and got a lot of “go on, one more…” pressure from people.

I went tee-total until I was 35 and people respect that far more.

Uni friends loved knowing that there was someone sober enough in the group that the funny antics would be remembered.

He just likes being in control of himself and there's nothing wrong with that.

People will still love him as a friend
