What would Boris and his party have to do that’s bad enough from him to have to step down ?

I was wondering this after seeing someone musing on one of the threads about the Christmas Party held at Downing Street that nothing seems to stick to him.

What would it take for people to not vote for him ? Or for Boris to have to step down/ the party to hold a vote of no confidence in him.

The handling of Brexit ?

The utter shambles that was the covid response and the lies about the Downing Street party ?

Test and trace being an utter waste of money ?

Giving cronies multi million pound contracts (see above test and trace) ?

Is there anything ?

I think that the more he gets away with the more some people admire him and are envious of his ability to float to the top and his Teflon slipperiness to escape censure. Turns out there's a lot of people like that. Plus when you add in a dire standard of politician atm and consequent lack of coherent opposition, you get low turnouts and low engagement with the electoral process altogether. Making it harder to shift the status quo. Depressing.

Anyone who is watching the news tonight would be sickened - laughing about it shows the utter contempt they have for us. We're there to follow the rules that they ignore. Unbelievable if they survive this.

People knew he was a lying, philandering, homophobic, racist piece of shit and they still voted him in, so I don't hold much hope.

I fucking hate the lot of them and it blows my mind that the Tories have such a chokehold on the voters.

Tory voters have been captured, they will support the Tories no matter what.
Johnson knows this and this means he can do whatever he wants.
I think its because of Brexit. If you admit or acknowledge the lying and corruption you might have to question the lies you were told about Brexit and voters won't do that so will go to their graves supporting Johnson and the Tories.
I despair the direction voters have taken the country in.

I have to say this is my view too. I wasn’t shocked by tonight’s news. I don’t even feel it’s especially unexpected to be honest.

The problem is there is no one to take his place. The whole party is a shambles full of rotten apples. Labour has no proper leadership, no policies and a load of renegades. It’s the devil you know syndrome.

I agree with this. I actually think many of those who’ve voted for them can’t acknowledge they have been had in such a massive way, so they carry on believing everything is fine. It’s like being in an gaslighting, abusive relationship.

He can do whatever the fuck he wants @Roundeartheratchriatmas. He has a large majority. Many of them, new MPs, eager to take guidance and be seen as team players.

It doesn't matter how badly he behaves. It doesn't matter how many lies he tells. How much of an ignorant, hypocritical, lazy he is. It doesn't matter what we think of him.🤷‍♀️

He can pretty much do whatever he wants until the next election.Xmas Angry

I think it's like a bit like leaving a bad relationship or terrible job: you have to believe you're worth more.

Personally, I believe the U.K. deserves better than this appalling person as its Prime Minister. I look at the place I live and I love the people here. I profoundly believe we deserve better.

However, I think a lot of people don't yet feel that way. 🤷‍♀️

But it's true.

We deserve so, so much better than incompetence, cynicism, sleaze and a thoroughgoing, reckless addiction to corruption in matters small and large.

We have always deserved better.

And particularly now, during this pandemic.

I was quite young when it all happened but remember seeing the odd tabloid headline about Tory MPs with oranges in their mouths/latex/fishnets etc. It was quite the scandal at the time, I think similar these days would just be used as stonewall PR. I'm not sure there's anything they could do politically or otherwise that would shock the public. They've manoeuvred themselves into a position where no one has any level of expectation, so they can only do better than expected. It would be fairly clever if it had been deliberate.

I don’t hunk that’s true. Most of the new MPs are from the North and know if they could be out if Johnson carries on the way he is at the moment. They want him gone.

There has to be a limit even for him.

Maybe wonder if he took a shit in parliament that would be enough ? Probably not.

Reminds me of Trump saying he could go out and shoot someone and people would still vote for him.

People that voted tory didn't want the hard left policies, identity politics and kitchen sink manifesto on offer from Labour during the election. Its not the voters fault that Labour made themselves unelectable and its not the voters fault that Labour seem very happy to remain so.

Politics has been about personality over policies for 20+ years. It's unfortunate that we value a PM with personality more than their policies. Sadly, there isn't anyone in Labour (that I've noticed) who has enough of a personality to compete with Johnson. We had Teflon Tony, now we've got Bent Boris.

Regardless if someone voted Tory in the last election Covid has changed everything

People will still continue to vote Tory as they believe the polices are better for the country but can still loath the current leaders of the party

I don’t believe Theresa May or John Major or even Thatcher would show such contempt for the public as this current government

Johnson will come out fine a few will get sacked a reshuffle

Labour really need a leader that will challenge Johnson’s popularity (unfortunately I can’t think of anyone)

Though I bet his devoted little followers would STILL insist he was doing his best.

This country is now utterly untrustworthy, regressionist, Jingoistic, racist, disabled/elderly/poor-hating, sexist, misogynistic, misanthropic, elitist, isolated, and delusional.

The rest of the (western) world regularly wets itself laughing at how far we've fallen (and much of the rest of the world looks at us and knows, once and for all, just how untrustworthy we now are).

And it's not much comfort for those of us that didn't vote for it to tell ourselves we didn't vote for it. It's still the reality we have to cope with. I'm glad I'm not any younger. I'll be telling the next generations in the family to emigrate. Permanently. If they want anything like a decent life.

(And people don't vote for policies. They vote for personalities. And the mass mainstream media still ADORES Boris, his cosplay, and his merry band of bandits.)
