What would Boris and his party have to do that’s bad enough from him to have to step down ?

I was wondering this after seeing someone musing on one of the threads about the Christmas Party held at Downing Street that nothing seems to stick to him.

What would it take for people to not vote for him ? Or for Boris to have to step down/ the party to hold a vote of no confidence in him.

The handling of Brexit ?

The utter shambles that was the covid response and the lies about the Downing Street party ?

Test and trace being an utter waste of money ?

Giving cronies multi million pound contracts (see above test and trace) ?

Is there anything ?

There's loads of previous examples of Johnson lying on camera and lying in parliament.

Kendodd · 08/12/2021 08:49

Interesting to see if he doubles down on the lies at PMQs today with the Tory MPs cheering him on from behind.
Also, have you seen Rees-Mogg laughing about it all on Twitter?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/12/2021 09:06

Well this latest episode makes his previous lies come across as harmless little fibs.

You lot do love gobbling up the left wing propaganda don't you?

BonnesVacances · 08/12/2021 09:42

The only way this guy is leaving is if his own party kicks him out. So you need to let your MP know how appalled you are and put pressure on them. They're all about saving their own skin and if they think their position is at stake because of their leader, the rot will set in.

SprayedWithDettol · 08/12/2021 09:44

God knows.

And it’s Johnson, not Boris No other PM has been called by a nickname (remember he is Alexander, Boris is a persona). It is falling into his trap to use that name. Nice Boris, cuddly Boris, matey Boris.

He is Johnson. Incompetent, lying, cheating, callous, venal and responsible for the largest peace time death toll we have had.

The people that voted tory won't want to admit they got it so badly wrong.

People that voted tory didn't want the hard left policies, identity politics and kitchen sink manifesto on offer from Labour during the election. Its not the voters fault that Labour made themselves unelectable and its not the voters fault that Labour seem very happy to remain so.

People that voted Tory did so because they wanted to.

They could have voted someone else that was not Tory. Or Labour. They could have stayed home that winter's night and had fun with colleagues, friends and family.

They didn't. They got off their arses. They got off their sofas. They left the house and went out of their way to vote Conservative.

Labour haven't been in power for years. This ballsed up state that we're in is down to Tory fuck ups with Austerity, Brexit and Covid. And the voters who gave them that power.fangryfsad

Yes.... A lot of people voted Conservative to make sure Labour didn't get in because the social media lefties were hysterically convinced Labour was going to win the election and people didn't want that to happen. For quite a lot of people I know it was a vote against a hard left, momentum influenced Labour government that got them shifting out the door. Blame Labour for that not the voters. Something Labour supporters don't understand is if you want to appeal to the masses and not alienate voters you can't be berating people that don't agree with you and calling them thick, uneducated and brainwashed.

Why do you say "left wing propaganda"? This is most likely to have been leaked by people within the Conservative government who are angling to oust Johnson and/or make other political headway for their own agendas. Unless you are suggesting that there was a "left wing" person filming that mock press conference, who inexplicably held onto the footage for a year, and then decided to leak it now?
thecatfromjapan · 08/12/2021 09:50

I do think a lot of the electorate don't realise how far Johnson and co are from the Conservative Party of old.

They have the name - but the similarity stops there.

I wish there was more discussion of that.

This bunch are very corrupt, inexperienced, ideological and incompetent.

They are light years away from being a government that responds pragmatically to political situations.

Which is why there is drama after drama and scandal after scandal.

And it's why so many former Conservative MPs keep raising objections to Johnson's government.

Effibreast · 08/12/2021 09:50

I'm no fanboy of Starmer but he isn't quiet. Spoke out in parliament, even read out a letter about lockdown transgressions, handed it to Angela Rayner who took it to the met. What's worrying is the relentless refrain that Labour are worse but with no evidence that would be the case. So David Lammy would be worse than Liz Truss, Yvette Cooper worse than Priti Patel, Emily Thornberry worse than Suella
Braverman ? Lisa Nandy has a real and longstanding interest in Levelling up and is mp for a red wall seat unlike her opposite Michael Gove.
What's sad is the apathy. In the past if the party of government was inept, dishonest and corrupt, they'd be out. Now people just accept it. No other party is given a look in. And chancers like Johnson, Cummings exploit it. Unfortunately 2022 will see issues with Brexit kick in, rising living costs will hit. Maybe people will reconsider...

Effibreast · 08/12/2021 09:52

@SexyNeckbeard funnily enough it's not labour supporters laughing at the voters is it ? Confused

It seems these insults get more frequent so I guess that’s still it for Labour.
SpookyMargot · 08/12/2021 10:16

Rory Stewart, when reviewing a biography about Boris Johnson for the TLS, wrote that the author 'minimizes Johnson’s misdemeanours – not by omitting them, but rather by listing so many that they lose their power to shock'.

I think as a nation we're so used to Johnson lying and cocking things up (such as his CBI speech) that we're no longer shocked. We're collectively desensitised to it now.

SexyNeckbeard · 08/12/2021 14:41

@AssassinatedBeauty oops how awkward I meant to quote the poster who trotted out the tired old "feeding hungry kids" line but I didn't quote it. I wasn't referring to the current shit show

Hen2018 · 08/12/2021 15:20

Just think of the utter, utter twats waiting in the wings to replace him!

Prime Minister Gove, anyone? Prime Minister Patel? Rees Mogg?

What a horrible thought!

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 08/12/2021 18:04

Is there still a Downing Street cat ? Can he/she not be PM ?

What would it take for people to not vote for him ? Or for Boris to have to step down/ the party to hold a vote of no confidence in him.

There's two different questions there. For the latter, there will be no vote of no confidence. Because Britain is not a democracy, it is a minimal democracy driven by parties. The opposition do not have the numbers to kick Johnson out in Parliament. It is as simple as that.

To stop voting for him, what's needed is a complete overturn of the culture that values looks and "charisma" over all those boring questions of competence. A complete overhaul and education in politics and philosophy for all would be needed. Again, it's too boring and requires too much thinking for the average Brit, and they don't value people who do know anything either.
