Is it ok to go to bed with wet hair?

I'm crap at getting up early. I wake at 7am and its go go go to get the kids sorted and dropped at school (we leave at 7.50am to go to Breakfast Club), then off to work.

I manage a quick shower each am but do not have the time (currently) to wash and blow dry my hair in the mornings. As such, I was it before bed every other night.

If I'm organised I'll do it early evening then blow dry or leave to air dry before bed but once a week ish I end up going to bed with wet hair.

Is there anything "wrong" with sleeping with wet hair? I keep the towel wrapped round it as long as I can bear then take it off before I fall asleep. Is there a product that would be good to put on my hair/head for overnight sleeping with wet hair?

I know the answer to it all is "get up at 6.30" but we are 36 years in and it's just not happening.

Does it not make your pillow wet?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/12/2021 23:26

I always do.

IhateBoswell · 06/12/2021 23:27

I do sometimes tbh. I have naturally curly hair so I wrap it in a cotton t-shirt (which has usually come off by the morning).

I go to bed with wet hair sometimes, I just leave a dry towel on my pillow in the hope it stops the pillow getting too wet, never had any issues because of going to bed with wet hair,

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 06/12/2021 23:28

Wet pillow and more likely to wake up with it pointing in funny directions, but as long as you can cope with that there's nothing wrong or damaging about sleeping with wet hair.

Somebodylikeyew · 06/12/2021 23:29

I go to bed with wet hair most nights tbh, it takes bloody ages to dry.

What sort of problem were you fearing?? Like a health issue, or just bad hair?

LordEmsworth · 06/12/2021 23:29

Not ok. Actually illegal, in fact. I am surprised your hair hasn't fallen out. And your teeth actually, that's how not ok it is.

Alternatively, have you observed any negative side effects - I am thinking damp pillow, mostly. Because if not, knock yourself out.

In fact when I was a teenager I used to plait my damp hair before bed in the belief I'd wake up with gorgeous bouncy waves. I mean I never did, but I did live to tell the tale...

I do sometimes.

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2021 23:29

I wouldn’t want up as @dementedpixie says you’d get a wet pillow. Plus tangled hair in the morning presumably!
Would there be time between the DC going to bed and you going to bed to do it? So at least it’s dry.

SouthOfFrance · 06/12/2021 23:30

Have you never watched Sense & Sensibility Op? You might catch a chill & need to stay in bed recovering for a couple of weeks Wink

Agadorsparticus · 06/12/2021 23:31

It'd wreck my pillow if I did that. In your situation, I'd wash my hair early evening, as soon as I got in from work and leave to dry naturally until a quick blast on the dryer before bed if it still needed it.

riotlady · 06/12/2021 23:32

I do this fairly often, no problems so far!

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 06/12/2021 23:33

Can't stand having wet hair, can't imagine anything worse than trying to get to sleep with a soggy pillow!

MalbecandToast · 06/12/2021 23:33

A friend of mine did this all the time. She took the pillow protector off her feather pillow and the middle was legit green with mould Envy (not envy)

flotsomandjetsome · 06/12/2021 23:33

DD used to hate the hairdryer when she was small, so every night after her shower she'd put a towel on her pillow and go to bed with wet hair. She woke up every morning with dry hair which looed surprisingly nice.

Pinkchocolate · 06/12/2021 23:34

I shower and wash my hair before bed. I use serum and brush it and then put a towel on my pillow. It’s all about convenience!

Psuedoshoes · 06/12/2021 23:36

I do sometimes, but not before I discovered hairstory hair balm - godsend!!

ABitOfAShitShow · 06/12/2021 23:36

No issues with it but for the sake of the pillow, could you perhaps blast it for 3 minutes with the dryer? Just something to take the edge off.

I wash mine at night and blast it for 3-5 minutes - mostly the roots, head upside down. The ends are still damp but I don’t lie on them so the pillow is never too wet.

Pegasussnail · 06/12/2021 23:37

I have to wash my hair everyday so I wash it often after work and them it's done. I wouldn't 7 ²sleep with wet hair. It would feel cold. Not cosy.

TwinklyBranch · 06/12/2021 23:37

It's fine, I do it regularly (including tonight!). It looks better when I wash it in the morning and dry it but I'd rather sleep longer!

OhWhyNot · 06/12/2021 23:37

I do when it’s warmer

My hair is much softer when I do but a bit too curly

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 06/12/2021 23:38

I always do. I keep the towel wrapped around it so it's not dripping and then plait it.

Megan2018 · 06/12/2021 23:39

I do it all the time, my hair is stupidly thick and takes forever to air dry but I prefer it that way. It can take over 24hrs to dry completely.

I do find that a tiny bit of hair oil combed through seems to help it dry much faster and a good hair wrap instead of a towel.

I do rotate my pillows so it’s not the same one getting damp too.

Missmissmiiiiiiiiisss · 06/12/2021 23:41

Yep. Just sleep on a towel. Nothing bad will happen. If you have curly hair, it will actually look better Smile

TeeBee · 06/12/2021 23:43

It's brilliant for giving you fungal infections.
