I love the crazy conspiracy theories. So my favourite ones are that birds arent real and that Paul McCartney is dead and the man we see now is a lookalike.

My serious one is all the space missions. Well not all. Just space race. Missing cosmonauts from Soviet and the moon landings USA. When I said this in 2000 I was shouted down. But I notice a lot more people give this credence now.

I don't think that signifies much. All conspiracy theories, no matter how loony are gaining traction. I think that's more an indication of the negatives of the internet age, failing mental health and lack of critical thinking, than anything else. The world is going mad.

They all seem to have perfectly reasonable normal explanations. All this seeking for an additional hidden layer of meaning to tragic, but prefectly comprehensible events completely confounds me. Genuinely perplexed by why some people feel the need to do this.

I find the "Michelle Obama is a man" really horrible actually. Black women have been perpetually dehumanised historically, told they are "masculine", "not delicate" or "aggressive" etc, and I find this conspiracy theory is straight along those lines. Nasty stuff.

I was just about to post the same thing. I'm reading through this thread and the Michelle Obama thing is out and out racism. Nothing more.

These are making me laugh. I’ve heard people believe and send info around saying all Covid vaccinated people will be self isolating by this Christmas with an unknown sickness, and then all people who have taken the vaccine will die by mid 2022. ok then but how does that sit when it doesn’t happen? What will those people do with their beliefs? Extend them out to a later date? Who knows.

This is actually very strangely credible; I went down a big Reddit rabbit hole - Ghislane Maxwell was secretly controlling the worldwide news agenda as she was extremely high up moderator at Reddit. The user name they say she had stopped posting/activity when she was arrested …

Also no way did Epstein kill himself.

I work with someone who doesn't believe dinosaurs ever existed. He genuinely thinks it a big hoax. Apparently this is because he totally believed in Father Christmas, and when he found out FC wasn't real he stopped believing in dinosaurs too.

My favourite conspiracy theory is that Johnson dresses up as a tramp to deflect attention away from the insidious acts of Parliament he is putting through which curtail our civil rights.

An ex colleague firmly believed that Australia doesn’t exist, instead pilots (who are all in on the lie) fly you to south America. These areas of South America are populated by actors and overseen by the special services of multiple countries. Native australians are actors who are actually from Africa and just happen to be brilliant at putting on accents and looking nothing like their real ethnicity…

Weirdly she believed in New Zealand and couldn’t explain how you can fly from New Zealand to South America in just over three hours!

She also thinks the Holocaust was fake, she thinks it was faked so that Jewish people will be pitied so they can form a super race, take over the world and enslave anyone who isn’t Jewish. The reasons Jewish people don’t eat meat and dairy together is because they control the food industry who put chemicals in food that are only activated when you eat both meat and dairy together, these chemicals mean Jewish people can control you easier and make you believe in the Holocaust etc. The Nazis are simply people who discovered what the Jews were doing and tried to save the world from them, the Jews decided to invent the Holocaust to stop people supporting the Nazis.

Except the Jews control the world one is entirely pervasive. Most Jewish people will have an anecdote about comments being made on Jews controlling media, Jews having too much influence, Jews impacting US govt policy (aka AIPAC), Israel/Zionists/Jews looking for sympathy and playing the victim card, often quite openly.

A friend of mine is a flat Earther. He is quite wealthy and owns several businesses, went to uni, wife is a teacher. No way would you expect him to actually really believe in this. He also says we live in a multi dimensional universe. Time doesn't really exist and all that.

Jesus I have been down some rabbit holes with him whilst we have been on the red wine - most of it goes over my head as my obviously tiny brain can't compute!

I asked my friend about why the flat earth thing, and she said it is because the world is being run by psychopaths, and they are just chipping away at everything people know to be true, seeing how much they can get away with, and how many can be manipulated into believing rubbish.

Not sure about the psychopaths bit but there sure as heck is money to be made producing books and YouTube videos catering for those that want to research their favourite rabbit hole…

Two which I don't believe but sound vaguely plausible.
Princess Grace of Monaco who died quite suddenly at the wheel of her car was actually murdered by the mafia because she was trying to get rid of the criminal elements behind the gambling in the principality.
Gaitskill who died quite young was actually poisoned by the Russians because they wanted a more left-wing Labour leader in Wilson.

I'm not into woo or conspiracies...Occams razor etc but the Denver Airport one is fascinating. Just too many little things that add up into a big WTF?!
