How can I hang my wreath?

ItsAllAboutTheLighting · 05/12/2021 17:39

Made a great wreath (if I do say so myself!) but I can't hang it.

The front door is UPVC and all the hooks I try are flat and the top of the door isn't flat.

I don't have a door knocker to hang it from either or a back door.

Are there tricks?

I saw someone online put a hook on the opposite side of the door but every time the door closes, it will put a sudden massive strain on both sides and I've no doubt it would yank the hook off.

Do you have a glass panel? I had a big sucker that attached to the glass bit. A big command hook?
A command hook upside down on the inside of the door with a ribbon feeding over the top of the door to the front with the wreath attached?

NannyGythaOgg · 05/12/2021 17:44

Put the hook on the inside of the door as you said - making sure you put it upside down. It does work and shouldn't fall off.

If you put it near the top and it is the same colour as the door you can leave it there all year round (and even hang other appropriate decorations during the year if you want)

LadyCatStark · 05/12/2021 17:45

A door I knocked on the other day had the top and both sides tied with thin parcel ribbon and the 3 pieces were looped around the door and tied together on the inside of that makes sense?

I have a glass panel on my uPVC door and use a command hook to hang my wreath.

We use a big red velvet ribbon then tie that to the handle on the inside.

ItsAllAboutTheLighting · 05/12/2021 17:46

What kind of wreath did you have?
Was it a homemade one with the moss backing?

If you search "wreath door hanger" on Amazon, you'll be able to find a piece of metal which hooks over the top and then goes down about a foot before having another hook which you then hang your wreath on. I've seen them in places like The Range & Homebase too

I'm sure it would work.

Until I closed the door and it yanked on both the hook and the wreath.
The top of the door isn't flush.
It has a large lip at the front that goes against the wall when it closes.

Oh man, my OP must have explained things very badly.

Those hooks don't work.

Because the top of the door isn't flush. Flat. Straight.

It has a large lip.

Maybe a big command hook. You can remove it afterwards.

Iloveadrianmole · 05/12/2021 17:52

I use a command hook on the outside of my door. It doesn’t spoil the door and as long as you stick it on firmly it’s fine outside. I use the clear one so it’s less obvious.

Use a sucker hook.

They’ve held my wreaths perfectly for years.

Will the command hooks take the weight of the really heavy homemade wreaths?

I just put a command hook on the front of the door and hung the metal rings of the wreath on the hook. No ribbons - it looks cool like it's floating in the middle of the door - near the top

SW1amp · 05/12/2021 17:53

Get some ribbon and tie the wreath to the ribbon

Then thread it over the top of the door and down the inside, and tie it to something on the inside

rslsys · 05/12/2021 17:54

Command Hook is the way to go. Just make sure you clean the surface well before sticking it on.

grafittiartist · 05/12/2021 17:54

Careful with the metal hangers- we ordered one, but then couldn't shut the door !

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 05/12/2021 17:55

Wide wired ribbon threaded either through the hanging loop at the back or around the top of the wreath itself suspending it and up over the top of the door, attached on the inside (wood door not upvc but would still work). Like in the attached pic

I have had the same difficulty in previous years. DH managed to work out a way by creating some convoluted loop with string through the letterbox and tied on to the inner door handle. Sorry I can't explain it better but it did work!

BuddhaAtSea · 05/12/2021 17:57

I have 2wreaths, tied together with a ribbon, one on each side of the door.

Outlyingtrout · 05/12/2021 17:59

I make a big loop with strong ribbon and hook this across the top of the pvc door in the channel/dip. And then over the top corners of the door. Then attach the wreath at the bottom of the loop so when it hangs you're left with a V shape of ribbon from the top of the wreath up to each corner of the door.

Inagalaxyfaraway · 05/12/2021 18:00

Tie ribbon on inside door handle and door hinge then flip it over top of door so it’s hanging from top of door outside. Ribbon is then a v shape at front of door.

How heavy? Command hooks I’ve seen can hold 5lbs
