This is what you get for stealing 😁

I just finished my Xmas gift shopping online. One of the things I bought was a pack of American chocolate. I resisted temptation for about half an hour then nicked a pack of Hershey kisses.

They taste like vomit. Actual vomit. And I can't get the taste out of my mouth. I've swished with mouthwash, everything. It's like the smell has set up home in my nostrils and the taste at the back of my throat.

Still, I suppose it's a good thing I will not now be giving my son the gift of vomit for Christmas.

I feel so sorry for Americans I want to send the poor sods emergency parcels of actual chocolate.

Right after I gargle with a cup of skunk spray to freshen my mouth.

Haha! They are the worst! Awful soapy aftertaste. Poor Americans! Grin

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 03/12/2021 15:52

American chocolate is horrid, fact.

Forgetaboutme · 03/12/2021 15:52

I 100% agree with you. I love chocolate but hersheys actually taste like vomit. I was nearly sick in work once trying some someone had brought back from America.

They are so disgusting!

LutherRalph1 · 03/12/2021 15:53

Haha yes Hersheys is rank

chesirecat99 · 03/12/2021 15:53

Grin Yep, the manufacturing process they use produces butyric acid... which is also in vomit.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 03/12/2021 15:54

Anyone someone from my office would go to the states on holiday or business they would bring treats back including Hershey kisses. They would sit around our office for weeks cuz no one wanted them 😂😂😂

FrenchyQ · 03/12/2021 15:56

Hershey's kisses are nasty 🤢

TheCanyon · 03/12/2021 15:57

Hersheys are THE worst chocolate in the world.

Does anyone remember those wee cherry lips that tastes like soap, not just any soap but that horrible cracky pink school soap.

IncompleteSenten · 03/12/2021 15:59

Why though? Why would anyone make chocolate that tastes of vomit?
Why would anyone eat it more than once?

Urgh. I need a tongue transplant now. 😁

Love, love, love cherry lips although they don't taste at all like cherries. Love parma violets too
IncompleteSenten · 03/12/2021 16:01

Parma violets are gorgeous.
I always buy loads as part of the Halloween sweets for trick or treaters. No kid ever picks them and well, waste not want not 🤷‍♀️

Try the milkshake it's even worse!!

ArtfulScreamer · 03/12/2021 16:04

An old colleague now sadly deceased brought these back for the office from a Florida holiday once, everyone had one came to the same vomitty conclusion and they were binned. I now think of them quite fondly because of this particular memory but not fondly enough to ever eat one again.
Is it a gift for your MIL OP? Grin

I think it's processed so that it doesn't melt at such a low temperature as proper chocolate since the USA is generally hotter than Europe and food has to travel longer distances. The process produces the puke-effect.
BarbaraofSeville · 03/12/2021 16:06

Oh dear OP. I often see American chocolate in our local Asda, because I think it's actually a Walmart or it was and it's massive and has about 3 'international' aisles. I keep thinking 'that looks interesting' but fortunately stop myself from buying it, because it's disgusting.

I once ripped a filling out on the toffee I pinched out of the bowls of sweets we put out for training course attendees that were aren't supposed to eat until after the course has finished. That also serves me right.

It's hot in Spain and Italy and their chocolate is nice as far as I remember.

Vursayles · 03/12/2021 16:07

I remember expat friends brought us some back from the US for Christmas when we were kids - I can still taste the waxy vomit, we were absolutely horrified! Poor Americans and their sub-standard confectionery.

Thegreencup · 03/12/2021 16:09

Yup, it's bloody rank. Tastes like naff cheap advent calendar chocolate or imitation chocolate you give to your dog.

Meowenstein · 03/12/2021 16:11

Milk can’t travel that far so they use butyric acid, which is also in vomit. Watched something on tv about it. So you are not wrong in that is actually does taste like vomit! It’s like their chlorine dipped chicken, yuk!

Swingsandroundabouts123 · 03/12/2021 16:14

I LOVE them! Always ask people to bring them back for me a gleefully eat them all myself

😂 no. My mil was an amazing woman. It was only ever the best for her. My mother OTOH... 😁

It was for my son, he'd asked for it because he's never tried American chocolate and he wanted to.

He's had a lucky escape if you ask me.

Hershey's kisses DO TASTE LIKE VOMIT!! But some people love them. I can't fathom it. I wonder if people who think coriander tastes soapy (me) think Hershey's taste vile, because it must be something to do with some kind of taste gene if some people think they're delightful.

BigYellowHat · 03/12/2021 17:18

I’ve always wondered what they tasted like…thanks for being the taste tester 😆 🤮
