How many meatballs do you serve per person?

DC think they should have 6 meatballs per person. I think 3 is sufficient. DH says the number is 5.

I usually try to make mine but when I buy them they come in packs of 12 - what does that mean? 12 for a family of 4?

How many do you serve?

How old are the kids? 3 for a 5 year old yes, 3 for a 14 year old, no.

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 02/12/2021 19:16

Depend on the size of the meat ball, and age of the children?

Babyroobs · 02/12/2021 19:17

My teenage boys will have six each.

I do 12 for the three of us, but there is a portion left over, so similar to you is as much as its around 3 each.

DD and I would have 2 or 3, DH at least 4, and whatever is left is lunch the next day.

IgneousRock · 02/12/2021 19:18

Pack of 12 between 5 of us so 2 or 3 each. It isn't quite enough tbh, but not worth buying 2 packs!

Leafsontheline · 02/12/2021 19:18

4 each. There’s two of us, so we get a pack of 12, have 4 each then have a portion for the freezer. I add loads of veg to bulk it out a bit..

nixso29 · 02/12/2021 19:19

I buy the 12 pack, 5 for DH, 4 for me then 3 leftover for a smaller lunch portion for me the next day

Gearedtoyou · 02/12/2021 19:19

It depends how big they are but always an odd number!

Squizzley · 02/12/2021 19:19

Three is not enough! I would be embarrassed.

cloudtree · 02/12/2021 19:19

Teenage DSs and Dh will have six each. I’d have 3 or 4

Wheelerdeeler · 02/12/2021 19:19

Make with 500g mince and serve age appropriate portions. No counting as meatballs are bite size

mynameiscalypso · 02/12/2021 19:20

Gosh, I'm very generous when it comes to meatballs. I'd generally give 6 - 8 to an adult and 3 - 4 for a child. DS is 2 and he would normally eat 3 and maybe the fourth.

DelphiniumBlue · 02/12/2021 19:21

6 each for my boys since they were teens. If any are left over they will eat them for pudding. There were/are never any left for the next day!

Gladioli23 · 02/12/2021 19:22

I would go 3 or 4, maybe up to 5 for hungry people?

TheChosenTwo · 02/12/2021 19:25

We don’t eat meatballs, none of the dc have ever liked them so it’s not something I can answer with any real insight however by looking at the readymade ones I’ve seen I reckon maybe 4 for an adult? Presuming it’s served with pasta and maybe some kind of tomato sauce?

WalesStar · 02/12/2021 19:25

A pack of 12 does three of us. Me and DH have 5 each. DS has 2. I think I’d be fine with 4 to be honest.

flowersforyou · 02/12/2021 19:25

When I was with my ex I cooked some meatballs in tomato sauce as a quick meal to reheat in the week, there were 16 meatballs I remember getting back from being out with a friend and he ate 16 meatballs with pasta to himself!!!! I was not happy, he used to also make himself a ham sandwich with a whole pack of ham!

GrandmasNightgown · 02/12/2021 19:27

Entirely depends on the size of the meatballs

Tiny little Swedes, of belting great faggots?

Justleaveitblankthen · 02/12/2021 19:28

What do you eat them with? We eat them with home made chips, salad, Tzaziki, cheeses etc, everything is self serve in communal bowls ( communal? 😁 )European style and we stop eating when full..
All grown up though now.

My god the greed on this thread!! Shock 2 for an adult and 1 for a child is absolutely sufficient, especially when served with 8-10 grams of pasta and a massive salad

No wonder there is an obesity crisis

ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2021 19:30

What weight is the pack of meatballs?

Tessellation · 02/12/2021 19:30

16 meatballs?!??!?!?! And no meat sweats???

Yes have teens. I bulk out with veggies yes.

So I'm not mean, I do give them more than 3, especially when I make them, but yes my default portion would be 3. And then I noticed that the shop bought ones usually come in packs of 12 and wondered whether that meant the norm was 3? It feels excessive to buy two packs for a family of 4, but reading the responses maybe not so much?

And doesn't it give an adult serving size on the nutritional info panel?

Pipersouth · 02/12/2021 19:31

I cut them in half just to make them look more but 12 for 3 is just about right - could always do more and freeze (I tend to fill up with garlicbread and pasta as well though!)
