I’m last minute driving from Kendal to Hull tomorrow and looking to stop somewhere for the day…. Don’t need to be in Hull until tea time and I’ll be spending the weekend there.

Thinking Leeds or York way, but not overly fussed on a city visit with an 8yr old and 12yr old. Don’t want to go shopping!!!

Happy outdoors/indoors, museums/activities.

Ideas would be great!! Thanks

Stockeld Park is very Christmassy and great for a day out.

Or Harewood House, Temple Newsam or Lotherton Hall?

HugeAckmansWife · 02/12/2021 18:00

York is good but will be very busy. I think I would go straight to Hull and go to The Deep.

GiltEdges · 02/12/2021 18:19

The castle museum at York is very good. They have a traditional Victorian street that you can walk down and at this time of year will be selling lots of traditional Christmas sweets like sugar mice etc ☺️

So would I. Unless you leave Kendal very early it isn't really worth stopping off en route to visit somewhere very interesting unless you don't expect to get to Hull until very late.

Flamingoland?

Or Vanguard at York has Hollywood bowl, puttstars and a cineworld

jaffacakesareepic · 02/12/2021 18:30

Jorvik (I think its called that) if you do go into york, also there is the most amazing fudge shop in york

bbn81 · 02/12/2021 18:36

Slightly depends on your route. If travelling down the M6 and then M62 I would stop somewhere in the leeds/wakefield area. Temple Newsam is nice as is Lotherton Hall.

Gobbledygoo · 02/12/2021 18:43

Gullivers in Rotherham is a fab day out

PermanentTemporary · 02/12/2021 18:45

In this weather- national train museum rather than something purely outdoors. We went un the summer though, might be more outdoorsy than I remember.

Agree! York is so busy at the moment with shoppers, it's hard to park and get around sensibly.
BadgerWatch · 02/12/2021 18:52

Agreed, go straight to Hull. There's The Deep,Transport or Maritime Museum's. Take them out to Spurn Head if you fancy outdoors or there is the usual Bowling, Ice Skating etc

CurlsandCurves · 02/12/2021 20:28

The Forbidden Corner!

I just checked, it’s pretty much bang on in between Kendal and Hull.

Absolutely brilliant day out.
