Worst pain you've ever experienced?

Today I had a vacuum assisted breast biopsy which I didn't expect to be too bad. It wasn't until the anaesthetic wore off! The nurse told me to put a sports bra on tonight. Yeah that's not happening!

I've taken some tramadol I had left over so hopefully the pain will wear off soon but this is definitely up there with appendicitis, severe ear infection and toothache.

Giving birth and labour for 48 hours doesn't even feature in the top ten.

Toothache, easily. I can't describe the pain but it was like nothing I've ever experienced.

Bloodybridget · 02/12/2021 22:37

Kidney stone, and when I accidentally stepped into a bath that was much too hot, tried to hop out and slipped right in; my bum round the base of my spine was scalded. Also, mercifully briefly, jabbing my bare little toe against a piece of furniture.

My recovery from open heart surgery was the worst, I couldn't move my arms for weeks. Apparently as I was a lot younger than the elderly people on my ward, I felt the pain worse as our nerve endings diminish as we age. Migraines a second

I hope,you feel better soon.

Bichette · 02/12/2021 22:49

Dental abscess
Having a chest drain inserted for a collapsed lung. Apparently my ribs are very close together and Doctor couldn't get the tube through. Even with local anaesthetic I was vomiting and passed out with the pain. Ended up using a much smaller diameter tube which didn't work and I had to have surgery to repair my lung.

Labrador tear with pinched nerve in my hip
Never felt pain like it - all I did was stand up from sitting.
Followed by DS1 birth - 4days in full induced labour whilst in full RA flare ... I ended up in emergency section but unfortunately it was extremely busy and as I was only in acute pain rather life threatening I was a back of the queue..... the constant unrelenting contractions coupled with exhaustion broke me, it took a long time to recover.

OldTinHat · 02/12/2021 22:54

Having a horse tap dance on my spine, breaking it. That hurt a bit!

connectivityissues · 02/12/2021 22:57

Yes to labour on the drip.

I recently had hand foot and mouth and the pain of the rash on my hands was the worst thing ive ever experienced.

And i've experienced alot of painful things. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Not one painkiller or cream or antihistamine or anything even touched it. I cant even describe how bad it was. I spent 3 days with my hands in bowls of ice cold water to numb it. Its 5 weeks on now and my skin is still sensitive and peeling - awful thing.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

twilightermummy · 02/12/2021 23:06

I had an induced labour for two of my births and they were both dreadful experiences - no epidural but wish now I’d pushed for one.
When I had my third naturally, it was a breeze (in comparison). Made me understand why others hadn’t had pain relief at all and I felt less guilty about the whole thing as silly as that sounds.

BillyAndTheSillies · 02/12/2021 23:08

Ds2's birth. After 18 hours of non dilating contractions I was put on a drip and went from 4cm to delivered in 20 minutes. A 20 minute long contraction basically hell:

A ruptured ovarian cyst. Most recently I ruptured the ligaments in my ankle, I don't think I've ever felt pain like it. Sobbed in A&E, no one could believe it wasn't broken.

BeaMends · 02/12/2021 23:10

It's a toss-up between the tooth abscess, the tracheal spasm and the laceration of the cornea. Giving birth comes way down in 4th.

Seasidemumma77 · 02/12/2021 23:13

Ruptured calf muscle. Dr in A&E didn't take my pain seriously until my friend explained I was saying this was far worse than the 4 experiences of childbirth.

emmetgirl · 02/12/2021 23:15

Labour.

The 2 weeks after having all my wisdom teeth out at once under general anaesthetic.

Both were well over 25 years ago but I remember them clearly.

SkiingIsHeaven · 02/12/2021 23:19

Ulcerated cornea's. Oh my god. I will never forget the pain.

More painful than boiling water on my feet or childbirth.

Fordian · 02/12/2021 23:19

Trigeminal neuralgia.

Beats two long labours. They come to an end; TGM may not, ever.

foreverandalways · 02/12/2021 23:20

Bulging disc.....open socket after wisdom tooth removal and frozen shoulder.....giving birth was a breeze in comparison

Mollymalone123 · 02/12/2021 23:27

Like Others-I had an abscess brewing under a filling-except my useless dentist told me I had pain as my filling was ‘too high’ and proceeded to drill and scrape over the top.I cried-it was agony and in the endI went to gp who diagnosed an abscess.Gp was brilliant and gave me prescription for really strong painkillers.

I had a biopsy on my toe- had a big chunk taken out just under the nail- it had to be left as an open wound until they decided whether I needed more surgery if it was cancer. It did turn out to be malignant melanoma and so they would have to amputate toe and also check the lymph nodes that are nearest in my groin. They do this by injecting radioactive tracing dye directly into the open wound in my toe.It took 5/6 injections- halfway through the person doing says shall I get gas and air? I said just crack on. Giving birth 3 times wasn’t as traumatic as some of the stuff I’ve had done because of having cancer-thus is the second time I’ve had cancer-a different type this time-all I can say is it does help me to think -well I gave birth before so I can manage this

Marimaur · 02/12/2021 23:56

Hernia popping out

Seeleyboo · 02/12/2021 23:58

Left breat pain. No idea why. Rushed to A and E twice but no reasons given. It was worse than childbirth with vontuse.

kikipie · 02/12/2021 23:59

Kidney infection, and I’ve had major spinal surgery and a full abdominal hysterectomy

christmaspavlova · 03/12/2021 00:15

For me childbirth

For my partner meningitis ( headaches , spinal tap etc) he said it was worse than the time he broke his leg ouch

I forgot my emergency caesarean was really bad .

I’ve led a very pain-free life it seems 🙈 these all sound so traumatic! Ive had a c-section but I wouldn’t feature it high on my (very short) list. I would actually say number one, which I didn’t expect at all, was getting lip fillers. I only got the tiniest bit a few years ago, she even numbed it first but my eyes were water and about popping out my head as she put this needle into my lip repeatedly. It felt exactly as you imagine. I think the issue was where the pain was, you can’t look away or get away from it at all, there’s no escaping it 🙈

youvegottenminuteslynn · 03/12/2021 00:20

My throat when I had glandular fever. I remember spitting out my own salvia (sorry) as I simply couldn't bear to swallow it anymore the pain was so bad.

Also the time between a major car crash and the morphine (then ketamine!) given to me once I was cut out and removed from the car. Couldn't believe I wasn't passing out it was so horrific and genuinely thought the pain, rather than my injuries as such, would kill me.

Injuries included a shattered arm, every rib broken and nose broken. Still can't believe that someone can stay conscious through that much pain - maybe the 'if it's that bad you'll pass out' thing is just a myth?
