Worst pain you've ever experienced?

Today I had a vacuum assisted breast biopsy which I didn't expect to be too bad. It wasn't until the anaesthetic wore off! The nurse told me to put a sports bra on tonight. Yeah that's not happening!

I've taken some tramadol I had left over so hopefully the pain will wear off soon but this is definitely up there with appendicitis, severe ear infection and toothache.

Giving birth and labour for 48 hours doesn't even feature in the top ten.

Recovery from having all four wisdom teeth out
Breastfeeding. Dear god it was AGONY. I was screaming in pain. DS had an undiagnosed tongue and lip tie and it was torture.
Eyebrow threading. Jesus Christ.

I have a problem with my urethra which means I had to have surgery every year to widen it so I could wee. The absolute agony of trying to wee afterwards was like pissing fire and razorblades. I passed out in the bathroom. I’ve refused to have the op since although the gp said it needs to be done every year I just can’t face it.

Vaginal hematoma after giving birth
More painful than labour and giving birth

airforsharon · 02/12/2021 21:52

@luinagreine

A Dr trying to remove retained products of conception from my septic womb while I was awake and had no pain relief by 'just getting in there and giving it a tug'. I was seriously ill at the time and was really traumatised by the whole experience. I've never screamed in pain before or since.
I can't quite believe i just read that. Absolutely fecking barbaric. I hope some day, some one tries to pull his bollocks back up and out through his arse. So sorry you went through that
Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/12/2021 21:53

Having the metal rods, packing etc removed after brachytherapy. Was awful.

Putting them in I had an epidural. Felt nothing. Coming out, it was grin and bear it.

ScreamingBeans · 02/12/2021 21:56

Gallstones

PaperMonster · 02/12/2021 22:04

First miscarriage. Frozen shoulder.

GrumpyLivesInMyHouseNow · 02/12/2021 22:08

Broken ribs, I've done it a few times but I broke them once on the back of my rib cage. That was agony, just breathing was painful and I just could not get comfy.

Also broke my radial bone in my wrist, the actual break didn't hurt but for about a week after the cast came off I was in agony with it.

Migraines would be up there too. I'd rather give birth tbh

VikingLady · 02/12/2021 22:08

Birth. I was screaming and yanking at cupboard doors in the hospital hoping to find a scalpel lying around so I could cut him out myself. I genuinely thought I was dying. Lots of blood, lots of screaming, vile midwife, bright lights, and an hour and a half of stitching afterwards on a broken bed where I had to hold my own leg up with my arms, whilst I got told off for making a fuss. I still can't bring myself to go near the ward six years later.

But hey, the baby was fine. So that means it was a fully successful birth on paper.

GrumpyLivesInMyHouseNow · 02/12/2021 22:10

Hangovers in my 20s, I think if someone had put a gun on my bedside table I'd have a some shot myself, just to stop feeling so bad. Only good thing was it was almost guaranteed that by 3pm I'd start to get hungry and feel better

Almondbiscuit · 02/12/2021 22:11

Trapped in a fire and escaping with burns is without a doubt horrendous,

TuesdayRuby · 02/12/2021 22:18

I’ve been quite lucky with my health (so far!) and never had anything too painful happen to me.
So it’s gotta be childbirth for me - DC2 flew out in about 30min. When he was moving down the birth canal it was like being hooked up to the nation grid, pretty sure I was levitating off the bed at one point Grin

OatALot · 02/12/2021 22:21

Had crash section, cornea ulcer and ice pick headaches but worst pain ever was putting Bazucka that verucca on a wart the size of a penny I had just bitten off. Essentially on a red raw weeping wound. It travelled up my arm and it was agony.

BigYellowHat · 02/12/2021 22:22

When I had a really bad seizure I bit both sides of my tongue so badly you could see the bite marks. I could barely eat for about two weeks and my tongue ached terribly. I was crying on the phone to my mum most days. I lost at least 4lbs though. Second worst was when I broke a couple of ribs as every breath I took was agony. That was also during a seizure.

User5252727 · 02/12/2021 22:22

Gallbladder attack. Worse than labour, I truly wanted to die.

Pandoralovegood · 02/12/2021 22:26

Impacted wisdom tooth. The relief after having it removed was immense.

DialSquare · 02/12/2021 22:26

Gallstones for me too. Followed by sciatica.

MrsPear · 02/12/2021 22:28

Ds2 Birth it was just a wall of pain and I was refused all pain relief as he was prem.
I later found out via his doctor that he was born back to back with his arm up round his head. 5 years later during ectopic surgery they had to call in a senior - he had to fix the mess I was left in with huge amounts of internal scarring and various organs prolapsed. The surgeon thinks I extensively tore internally and then my body did it’s best to heal. No one would listen for those 5 years let alone examine me (even after birth) as his weight was low. At least I now understand the pain. But I will not forget.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 02/12/2021 22:29

A degenerating fibroid while in 3 days of labour. The pain was so bad I never felt a single contraction.
I was on a ridiculous amount of various drugs and they just could not control the pain.
The doctors/nurses thought it must be my gallbladder for me to be in so much pain so were trying to treat me for that when it was something completely different.

I'll shortly be going through it all again due to an unplanned pregnancy. I now have more of the bloody things growing so could be much worse this time. Thanks to Covid they weren't surgically removed when they needed to be.

FrenchBoule · 02/12/2021 22:30

Continuous toothache or bashing small toe on the furniture. Bashing shin is also horrible.

Give me child birth (no painkillers as there was no time) or smear test any time.

Animum2 · 02/12/2021 22:30

Probably when I tore my calf muscle, felt like my leg was exploding

Yesthatscorrect · 02/12/2021 22:34

Sorry to everyone who has experienced so much pain, especially the ones who may have been treated with more sympathy if they'd been male 🙁

I'm feeling a lot better now. Thanks for holding my hand when I was in so much pain.

Kidney stones - far worse than childbirth. I was about to call 999 before I passed the stone and the pain stopped. It felt like I was dying.

Dental abscess - just horrific. Happened over an Easter weekend so couldn't get to see the dentist. GP wouldn't help - see the dentist - and 111 told me A&E wouldn't see me, had to be a dentist. Which actually makes me really cross now. Surely a massive abscess in your mouth puts you at risk of blood poisoning and sepsis? Which is a killer.

And excruciating knee pain. I couldn't walk and every movement reduced me to tears. Saw 2 GPs in the practice. One said arthritis and the other said sciatica. Prescribed fab painkillers but still no idea which one was right. It took months to heal whichever it was and I dread it ever happening again.
