I asked mine and they were fine with it, but masks tended to slip after a while. If it feels confrontational you could say, for example, I have children who may be infected with covid from school or I may have been on contact with someone with covid - and don’t want to risk passing it to you so shall we both wear masks?

I will ask her and see if she minds as things just seem to be going the wrong way again with covid

I wouldn’t dream of asking mine to wear a mask. And if you tell her you think your kids are actively likely to pass on Covid she’s hardly going to cheerily come and clean your house Hmm

I wouldn’t but not worried about COVID (had it already) and I’m at work anyway what the cleaner comes. I wear a mask to protect others/make them feel safer but don’t feel the need for others to wear them in my account.

Pepperama · 28/11/2021 22:28

Yes mine wears a mask all the time. I didn’t have to ask, she said she does it as she knows her customers will feel more relaxed about having her in the house

Firesidefox · 28/11/2021 22:29

No I don't ask my cleaner to wear a mask. It's hard manual labour for five hours.

If I am feeling particularly jumpy I ask her not to come (and pay her anyway).

I am usually working when she comes so I say hello, how are your family, goodbye, and that's about the extent of our chat so I don't feel we're particularly likely to exchange covid germs anyway.

Serenschintte · 28/11/2021 22:29

No, why not just open windows a bit. She’s as much as risk from Covid from you that you are from her.
Cleaning is hot work - made more so by a mask. Keep distance, open the windows.

Twinstudy · 28/11/2021 22:32

Ours offered but we said they didn't need to, we keep out of the way while they're here anyway. But I know they have some clients who prefer it. No harm in askingSmile

NotMyDayJob · 28/11/2021 22:34

No, but we stay out of each other's way. I'm either in my home office, which they don't clean, or out, and same for DH

user0176 · 28/11/2021 22:37

No I don't ask my cleaner to wear a mask, I wouldn't be happy wearing a mask at work so I wouldn't ask someone else to do it for my benefit. If I was vulnerable and concerned I wouldn't employ a cleaner at the moment.

Amberflames · 28/11/2021 22:40

Almost two years in and you decide now to ask her to wear a mask?

strengthinnumber · 28/11/2021 22:40

She used to.... then she got Covid 12 months ago and is now triple vaccinated. We (DH, me, kids) all got covid in Oct and DH and I are now also both triple vaccinated.

She asked if she could stop wearing one and on balance we think it's fine.

VaulterTech · 28/11/2021 22:41

Ours doesn’t, but I’m in my office when he’s here.

I have only had a cleaner for a short time not 2 years

I wouldn't - cleaning is quite physical work and surely would be quite uncomfortable in a mask. Just stay out of their way and/or open some windows. If they offer then fair enough, but if not then don't ask. To be honest if you are that worried about catching covid from them then you'd have to wipe down with disinfectant any surface they had touched anyway so what would be the point of having them come in the first place?

northernlady2904 · 28/11/2021 22:43

No, mine don't but they have a key and let themselves in when I am at work usually but if I am at home I don't ask them to

stairway · 28/11/2021 22:44

If she has to wear a mask then you should too.

eurochick · 28/11/2021 22:48

I wouldn't. It's a physical job. We just keep some distance between us.

LettertoHermoine · 28/11/2021 22:49

No. Just no.

MatildaIThink · 28/11/2021 22:50

I don't have a cleaner, but if I did, no, I would not expect them to wear a mask.

Same. Definitely won't be asking this of my cleaner. Manual labour in a mask, no way.

DillDanding · 28/11/2021 23:00

Ours doesn’t and there’s no way we would ever ask her to.

ChristmasP · 28/11/2021 23:03

I am not able to but I just wasn’t sure if people coming into the house should

Yes I feel the timing isn’t great maybe I shouldn’t have got a cleaner but back in summer it wasn’t so bad and now of I want to cancel I have to give 12 weeks notice

Outlyingtrout · 28/11/2021 23:07

Are you following her from room to room and in close proximity? Surely you leave her to it while she's working. I don't think it's reasonable to ask someone doing a hard manual job to wear a mask. Just stay out of her way.
