Our cleaner does and has done since she came back to work - she works with a lot of older clients so doesn’t want to be spreading it around. We also give her a lot of space to work in and ventilate the house whilst she’s here to help keep her safe.

Yes we have been opening windows too. I’ve had all 3 vaccinations too but the circumstances are quite difficult

I was looking at the air filtering units maybe this is something I could get to help as well

Is this a genuine thread? Your house is ventilated and you don't occupy the same space as her when she's there. You also apparently cannot wear a mask. But you think it might be reasonable to ask her to wear one Hmm

Do you know how masks work? How do you think a mask is protecting you from someone in another room? Why don't you think that the cleaner deserves the same protection from you?

Yes it’s genuine 😞

I was only asking as I wasn’t sure what to do

Ours wore them when they first came back after the original strict lockdown, but I told them they didn’t need to for our benefit and they all whipped them off straight away. It must be incredibly uncomfortable wearing one to do physical work.

I agree. I wouldn't want to do it and I expect the Op wouldn't either.

I don't think I'd be able to ask the cleaner if I wasn't prepared to also wear one, even for medical reasons.

GreenWheat · 29/11/2021 14:50

I would not ask my cleaner to do this, nor would I wear a mask in my own home. That said, she lets herself in and I am in my office the whole time she is here, so we don't see each other anyway.

I think the best solution would be to not have a cleaner until you stop feeling so anxious about having them in your house. That would be fairest to everyone concerned. You cleaner could be leaving germs all over your house with everything that they touch - if that kind of thing worries you..

It’s ok as she sanitises hands when she arrives and there are fresh disposable gloves for each room

I just go out whilst mine's home & open the windows. She's like a whirlwind so gets hot.

Ok it's official. This thread is a wind up isn't it?!!

Mybalconyiscracking · 29/11/2021 22:53

What do you think a mask does if you are in a different room? Do you follow your cleaner about? If she has COVID then she’s wandering about your house dropping it on every surface anyway. If she doesn’t then a mask isn’t required anyway.

No it’s not a wind up 😞

I acknowledge I do have some ocd tendencies and I’m dealing with some complicated medical stuff , I’m not here for fun or a wind up

I’ll hide this thread now I think, I’ve had a lot of responses and I’ll have a think , maybe I shouldn’t have a cleaner then but we live quite rurally now and I struggle with things

No to mask for a domestic cleaner. It's very hard work and they work at a very fast pace, It would be bad trying to work like that, not to mention it would take ten minutes until the sweat built up where it touches your face.
