Cheer me up whilst I am incapacitated with my bust ankle
Ligaments.

Are you doing anything festive this weekend or is it still to early. I'd planned to go shopping this evening then the a Christmas market and do bits of shopping out and about. Instead I'm Laid up on the sofa with my ankle Swelling!

Give me Inspiration for when my ankle is better.

Getting the advent calendars out. The fabric pocket one will be filled with chocolates on the eve of Dec 1. Might buy a packet of all butter mince pies from Sainsburys.

Taytocrisps · 26/11/2021 16:47

We're putting up the tree and decorations atm in advance of the Late Late Toy Show tonight (iconic Irish TV programme). There's a market nearby so I might head over on Sunday morning. Also, I need to catch up on the Christmas Chronicles readalong. It's bitterly cold out so feels suitably Christmassy. My poor hands were numb after putting up the gutter hooks for my outdoor lights.

DinosApple · 26/11/2021 16:51

Panto tonight!

TheCanyon · 26/11/2021 16:53

It's supposed to be the town's Christmas market and lights switch on but God knows what this weather will do.

Sitting in jammies drinking wines a christmassy thing to do right? that's My plan anyway Same as most weekends

Trying to get the wonky stable roof of Gdcs’ g’ nativity set to stay up. Re-glueing on some of the cotton wool ‘snow’.

Finishing running repairs to a few of the figures and knitting a new manger and baby’s blanket - old ones have gone AWOL.

Tomorrow pm, helping visiting Gdcs to decorate Christmas gingerbread biscuits - a kit I got from the milkman.

Reading them The Empty Stocking at bedtime, since they’re staying over - with a Father Christmas duvet set on the double bed they share. A bit early but it’s the beginning of Advent on Sunday, so it’s allowed.

Putting the little Christmas tree outside the front door tomorrow. I’ve already put the lights on but it’s waiting outside the back door for its moment of glory. 🎄

Very likely some mulled wine, and digging out my Very Easy Carols book to play on the piano.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/11/2021 17:37

I have been granted permission to start the Christmas lego display

Looking at the forecast I shall probably be wrapping what presents I already have in my stash.

I can’t face going to anything seasonal before December but am very excited to have treated myself to my first advent calendar in about 30 years, so roll on Wednesday!

@scooterbear do you have a boozy lunch destination in mind for Cambridge, am always up for recommendations!

MrsDThomas · 26/11/2021 17:48

Im drinking mulled wine at Manchester Christmas market and staying overnight with my friend,

Its bloody lovely!

scooterbear · 26/11/2021 17:48

The chop house....love it there.

cherrypiepie · 26/11/2021 17:57

This all sound fab! Exceptionally festive out there!

Boozy lunch, wreath workshop and Blenheim light trail added to my list of festive things to do.

Gonna get someone to take me kn a light safari!

I'm having a Chinese and gin and tonic tonight, order ton of stuff today online and wait the deliveries! Especially the hotel chocolate one!

My ankle is much better today so I'm back at work next week in my special boot. Least I don't have the crutches- and then next week I can venture out.

I am going to have a browse round Waitrose and Sainsburys and pick up a few bits for the Christmas Cupboard.

Then I need to argue discuss with DH about when he will go up into the loft and get the decorations down.

Sunday - Decs are going up. And Christmas will begin!!!!!

Allthatglittersandgold · 26/11/2021 18:33

Local church hall Christmas 'market', making homemade Bailey's as gifts, making a garland.

Crumblinginside · 26/11/2021 18:37

Late Late Toy show

Going to visit Santa

Iamthemaid · 26/11/2021 18:56

Christmas market

Gertie75 · 26/11/2021 18:58

I'm at our caravan, it's snowing a bit outside, I'm all warm and cosy drinking Baileys and we're going to play board games with the kids in a bit.

I'm looking forward to listening to the storm overnight, they always sound very dramatic in the caravan

🎄🎄🎄

I’m on a MN read-along/make-along thread for Nigel Slater’s The Christmas Chronicles (which starts on 1 Nov), so I’ve been reading about and/or doing festive things for a while now...

So far have made cranberry gin liqueur and apricot brandy liqueur, Christmas pudding, mincemeat, apple chutney, cranberry sauce, buffet sausage rolls, cinnamon biscuits, and hmmm, can’t remember if there’s anything else... if you have the book or want to buy it why not join us, it’s a lovely way to pass some time:

Christmas Chronicles thread 1

Christmas Chronicles thread 2

Today I caught up on a few chapters whilst trying out my new Christmas Crockery (an early Christmas gift from DH). You’ll notice I’ve also put up the first little string of lights to add a bit of cheer to the long dark afternoons/evenings).😊

I’m also on the poncetastic thread but sadly not much poncing has gone on for a few weeks as I’ve been focused on cooking/baking. However that’s going to change this weekend as I’m going to dig out the cross stitch card, my fabrics, the wool and crochet hook (I’m determined to learn this year!), as well as the card making materials. Oh and the strips for making woven stars, too. If we go out this weekend I’ll also buy a wreath base so I can get that done asap.

I was going to wander on down to our local Christmas market today but it’s blowing a gale out and I’m not going out in that! It was sleeting horizontally earlier! ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

We’ve already bought and eaten one box of Turkish Delights, and bought and drunk one bottle of port. Oops!🍷🍷

Oh my, just noticed you’re having Chinese tonight! Enjoy!!

I went on the Polar Express last night which was as magical as you'd expect.

This weekend there's a Christmas market in a local village and I'm going with the specific intention of getting a present for a friend whom I'm seeing for dinner tomorrow. I know the local rum producers are having a stall so that's my planned first stop and then it'll be generally wandering. Then Sunday, friends are coming over. Adults are making wreaths, children are building/decorating gingerbread houses. Lots of Christmas music, chat and snacks I hope.

ChoccyJules · 26/11/2021 20:04

@scooterbear Not been there yet

Anoisagusaris · 26/11/2021 20:05

Late Late Toy Show here too. I love it as much as the kids do.

WeeTattieBogle · 26/11/2021 20:12

Heading home to my part of the world after seeing family here for the first time in more than two years. The Christmassy part is the 2 suitcases of Christmas shopping I’m taking with me. I’m very excited.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 26/11/2021 20:27

I'm putting up my Christmas tree tomorrow. We will be watching a Christmas movie of ds choice and having loads of Christmassy nibles. We are also making ginger bread men. I cant wait 😁

MenaiMna · 26/11/2021 20:34

Making a list and checking it twice.
Overseas Christmas cards to post this week.
Moving stuff around as more packages come in and I consolidate the bits and bobs -might wrap some if a family group outside of house is complete. It's all grunt work at this stage.
But I am also "laid up" (permanently & chronically) and for the first time have booked my lovely cleaner for 5hrs to come in and do the Decs and tree in three weeks. She's really wonderful.

sensibleheartxo · 26/11/2021 21:20

Today I went to the Christmas market in Glasgow, it all felt rather festive! Also had a mooch around the shops, completely forgot it was Black Friday and as it was much busier than I had expected I didn’t get much. Plenty of ideas though so this weekend I’ll be online shopping and organising DP’s birthday bits for this week.

I watched Last Christmas on Netflix this morning, thoroughly enjoyed it so there will no doubt be more Christmas films being watched over the weekend.

The weather here is absolutely awful this evening so if it stays like this I’ll definitely be hibernating this weekend.

nancybotwinbloom · 26/11/2021 21:32

I just made a garland for my fire.
I have to add baubles etc but here it is.
