School breakfast club. How much do you pay per child, and how long is it for. Does it include food?

I feel like ours is expensive! Primary age.

@DogDaysNeverEnd

Looking at schools and so far £22 for morning and afternoon wraparound with a private provider attached to 1 school and £14.25 at another that's run by the school. Demand is high with waiting lists for sessions and no guarantee places will be available. It's terrifying. Fairly good chance it will affect our ability to work if we don't get the school of our choice as there might not be provision at any cost.
It was a huge factor in school selection for us. Sounds utterly ridiculous but we ended up with private school because the wrap around provision was cheaper and it's ad-hoc, so we only pay for what we use. It averages at 2 AM and 2/3pm.sessions but varies each week as to which days. At the local state school we'd have had to pay £21 per day for 5 breakfast and 5 after school clubs where as we pay £12.60 per.day but only for what we use. Private school costs us £50 a month LESS!

Bloody hell, I had no idea mine was so expensive. Council estate, state school.

Breakfast club £6.50 45 mins
After school club £16.50 with a cold pappy sandwich, child needs dinner when they get in because it’s so bad.

Together with nursery fees it was bankrupting me, so had to pull out and work less until little one gets free hours.

I’m in a decent paid professional job, but we have no money left over each month and I just find it really depressing!

Our school has a massive deficit because we receive a very low settlement compared to national average (we are low deprivation, even though that isn’t true on my estate). Lots of working people from my estate are using food bank because they can’t afford to live due to cost of living crisis.

flower11 · 26/11/2021 00:42

Run by the school £3.20 from 7.30 to 8.40. They get drink cereal, toast and there is fruit available.

Babybooboodedoo · 26/11/2021 00:45

Sorry Correction £5 if you book in advance online.

We still have a very expensive after school club though

I think it’s really unfair that families who already live in areas with expensive housing pay more. Families are struggling to survive where I live and we’re expected to pay more for childcare. It’s not a posh area.

WTGN · 26/11/2021 00:58

Ours is free. 8.30am - 9am. Cereal or toast

MissCruellaDeVil · 26/11/2021 01:08

The one at my school is free, 8-8:45!

My DC's school is £5, 7:30 - 9

Ilovechoc12 · 26/11/2021 05:54

7:30-8 - £4.65 per child (toast, cereal, yogurt)
The other school 7:30-8 full English breakfast / pancakes £2.50 bargain.

Asc £4.65 per 1/2 hr each child so easily racks up - but very easy to get them in on the day to sort out childcare issues …..

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/11/2021 05:59

£3 for 7:30 drop off or £2 at 8:00 (set times). School starts st 8:50 and it includes cereal or toast.

Bananarice · 26/11/2021 06:42

After school club is until 6pm and they get a light snack. You must prebook at least a week in advance. It cost £10 per child per day.

liveforsummer · 26/11/2021 06:52

Ours used to be £5 when I had 2 dc attending. Robbery for 45 minutes. Now since covid they cut the time even more so older dc start at 8 but get turfed outside after 15 minutes before starting at 8.30 on the new staggered starts, to let the younger ones in and the younger ones get half an hour too. This is now £2 per child they get offered cereal or toast and milk or water - no fruit or fruit juice. Dd has breakfast at home.

Picklesbaby · 26/11/2021 07:05

£4.50 no matter what time you arrive , it runs 7.30-8.45am

littleowls83 · 26/11/2021 07:10

You can probably get at least 20% off with tax free childcare. I only earn about £7k a year but have to use breakfast club for 2 which ends up costing over £1k per year. Eldest moves to secondary next year though so costs will halve.

WildStallyn · 26/11/2021 07:24

£4 for 1hr10.

WildStallyn · 26/11/2021 07:26
