Do you ever see people who look as though they've stepped out of history?

This is something I always notice in Glasgow, but I can't put my finger on why.

Today I saw a man wearing a proper tweed suit, shirt, tie, coat, and hat! He also had what I can only describe as an old fashioned face.

Time Traveller?

bakingdemon · 21/11/2021 15:09

Sometimes in Italy I feel like I see people who profile definitely belongs on a Roman coin.

EventOfTheSeason · 21/11/2021 15:14

I've never seen anyone who totally looks the part but I think Harry Kane has an old fashioned face.

MrsWooster · 21/11/2021 15:16

Saw someone (male, 50s) last week in a bowler hat, umbrella, briefcase and suit. Proper 1950s businessman.

Most odd-particularly in the middle of the ‘Otley Run’ in Leeds which consists of students doing a fancy dress pub crawl.

squashyhat · 21/11/2021 15:16

Kai from Strictly. Not only does he look old for his age he looks old-fashioned. Like someone from the 50s.

filka · 21/11/2021 15:17

About 20 years ago I remember my girlfriend telling me of someone who sounded like they had stepped out of history. She was abroad, leading an English conversation class, and one of the students had taught himself English by reading Charles Dickens - so that's how he spoke.

Watto1 · 21/11/2021 15:20

The woman we bought our house from. Dressed like an old lady with an old lady hairstyle and the house was decorated like something from the 1950s. She couldn’t have been older than her mid forties as she was pregnant.

TheresAStarmanWaitingInTheSky · 21/11/2021 15:23

I couldn't believe Kai's age, his dad was in the audience recently. I did a bit of googling, turns out I'm slightly older than his dad! Grin. I think Kai and AJ have been fantastic on Strictly.

David Cameron looks like he's from a 19th century oil painting.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 21/11/2021 15:26

Me. I tend to dress like im from 1940.

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 21/11/2021 15:30

Yes, we used to have someone who worked in our chippy who looked like a Victorian. She could have walked straight out of a photo of working class victorian women.

I was once walking through my home town and saw a bloke who looked and sounded exactly like Henry the 8th (or what you’d think he sounded like)
He was shouting that he’d lost Anne Boleyn tho-I really think he must have had mental health issues
It was scary-my daughter and I hid in the local cemetery until he’d gone past still shouting her name
I’ve never seen him since-but my son tells me he’s often seen in the same area shouting that he hates ‘Katherine’ but has lost ‘Anne’
Poor bloke-I hope he gets the help he needs

PeskyRooks · 21/11/2021 15:33

Whenever I see George Osborne or Dominic Cummings I can totally imagine them in an oil painting dressed up like Thomas Cromwell with a velvet hat on. I think you could go back through time and all their ancestors would look the same like Blackadder!

TheVolturi · 21/11/2021 15:38

Bill and Ted have a lot to answer for!

I know exactly what you mean. I see this too.
LoisWooookersonsLastNerve · 21/11/2021 15:43

I've possibly seen the same man op. He's in the Gallery of Modern Art quite a lot. A really dapper looking old man. He was dabbing his nose with a silk hankie the last time I seen him.

Felldownabackdonhole · 21/11/2021 15:43

It is quite a fashionable look at the moment. There are lots of men who wear tweed suits snd horn rimmed glasses. My bosses boss always wears a tweed jacket and he could have stepped out of another era.

Jacob Rees Mog looks like he comes from another era s as of his social attitudes belong there too.

MrsAvocet · 21/11/2021 15:45

Jacob Rees Mogg is clearly a Victorian undertaker.

coatsaremyonetruelove · 21/11/2021 15:46

Yes! Harry Kane has it in a good way.

Poor Henry VIII bloke must have been v unwell.

Was driving through Kent and saw someone with a wicker basket doing some garden in a Laura Ashley type skirt - it was very Darlin’ Buds of May.

I agree, Kai from Strictly does have an 1950s face.

Sometimes I look at pictures from the 70s and look at the kids, and wonder why they look so different today. I know hairstyles differ, but their faces look different also. More freckle somehow. Why is that?

TableFlowerss · 21/11/2021 16:00

I look like I’ve stepped out of history in the sense I look like I’ve beer dead for a couple of weeks.

The lack of sunshine in the winter makes me look deathly pale and I haven’t always got time to put make up on, so the corpse look it is…

coatsaremyonetruelove · 21/11/2021 16:00

The freckles must be the sun cream, or complete lack of it in the 70s!

Hairstyles too, maybe.

More freckle somehow. Why is that? Played outside from dawn until dusk with no suncream. Fresh air and sunshine, good times.
