How many washes do you get?

I’ve just killed another washing machine (always bearings) apparently I just use it too much. I do 16 full loads a week and get almost 2 years so say approx 1600 washes. Apparently this is unreasonable bordering commercial Hmm

I’m not after a debate about rewearing pants, just tell me please how many washes do you reckon you get from a machine?

How on earth dies a family if 5 only have 4 wash loads a week???

We're a family of four and I easily run 14-16 per week depending on duvet changes.

KrispyKale · 19/11/2021 20:41

I didn't know how I would get up to 15!

KrispyKale · 19/11/2021 20:41

Don't know..

We are a family of four and I couldn't get anywhere near that much. Clothes for the 4 of us makes one wash every 2-3 days, one whites at the weekend, maybe one or two more of bedding or towels.

How on earth does a family of 4 have 14 to 16!! That's madness!
MissCrowley · 19/11/2021 20:54

I do about 5-6 loads a week, 4 of us- includes bedding/ towels being washed once a week.
How many of you are there for 16 loads?

MissTrip82 · 19/11/2021 20:54

We do around five a year and our machine - which was the cheapest one when I bought my first place and needed one for the first time - is 15 years old.

MissTrip82 · 19/11/2021 20:55

Five a week!

We are cleaner than five a year.

MissCrowley · 19/11/2021 20:55

Sorry forgot to mention the last washing machine we had lasted around 5 years but then was leaking/ not spinning so our landlady replaced it, (it was old as shit when we moved in) I believe that one may still be going 3 years later but who knows as we moved last year.

Why so many duvet changes?

DGFB · 19/11/2021 20:57

7 loads a week, last one (Bosch) lasted four years

4-6 loads a week, our Miele is nearly 7 now

gamerchick · 19/11/2021 20:59

Haven't read the thread.

Go to AO. Get the insurance, they'll maintain it, fix it or replace it. Means you don't have to fork out a chunk of change each time.

Mum2jenny · 19/11/2021 21:00

4-5 a week and my washer/ dryer is over 12 years old. I am expecting it to die imminently though, given its age.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2021 21:01

Do you mix bedding, towels and clothes in 9kg full loads

Of course, why wouldn't you?

Our first washing machine got left in our old house at 11 YO, the second was replaced at 14 YO because the bearings were on their way out. Third one is only about 2 years old and I'll be disappointed if it needs replacing in the next decade.

All probably used for 2-3 loads a week but there's only 2 of us.

I'm wondering if lots of half loads are bad for the machine, maybe because they're unbalanced and put strain on the bearings.

16 loads a week is madness.

Dailywalk · 19/11/2021 21:02

I remember being told that a washing machine would last anywhere between 1-7 years. One year sounds pretty rubbish to me. I’m probably onto my third machine in 15 yrs. I do 6-8 washes a week.

I priced it up, but on the basis that 2 yrs payments cover the cost of a new machine anyway I gave it a miss. MIL had it on a washer and had a nightmare getting them out, waiting for parts etc her washer was down for 3 weeks by the time it was fixed.

My washer has just gone and I do at least a load a day.., it was ten years old!

Clymene · 19/11/2021 21:04

How many people live in your house if you're washing two full loads of towels and 4 sets of double bed linen every week? Confused

Snowinsummer · 19/11/2021 21:05

I do about 8 washes a week, maybe more. My last 2 Bosch washing machines have lasted about 6 years. I've recently replaced it with a AEG which came with a 5 year warranty

Mummysgonetobed · 19/11/2021 21:05

I do probably 8 loads a week, current machine (Hoover) just turned 3. Last machine lasted 5 years so hopefully got a couple left with this one.

caringcarer · 19/11/2021 21:06

I only do 7-8 loads a week but have had some wms for 8 years. Do you use Calgon?

3luckystars · 19/11/2021 21:06

Just do the towels in one big wash at the laundrette in the huge machines there. 16 washes a week is nuts.

SockFluffInTheBath · 19/11/2021 21:07

Possibly, they’re not empty enough that the drum is flinging itself around at speed with little load but it’s still a possibility if it’s designed to run at full capacity as a matter of course. I do the half loads for convenience (pe kits etc needed the next day so run a dark wash etc) but if I routinely waited for a full load I suppose it would drop me to 7 a week with maybe an ‘emergency’ pe kit wash midweek.
